A coming-of-age story centered around a small-town singer brokenhearted by the death of her brother in a car crash, who had secretly submitted her for a summer session at a performing arts academy in Los Angeles. In the academy, she experiences a whole new way of life in the big city, far from the small town lifestyle she's used to.

Pacionsbo Absolutely Fantastic
FirstWitch A movie that not only functions as a solid scarefest but a razor-sharp satire.
Matho The biggest problem with this movie is it’s a little better than you think it might be, which somehow makes it worse. As in, it takes itself a bit too seriously, which makes most of the movie feel kind of dull.
SnoopyStyle Terri Fletcher (Hilary Duff) has a lovely singing voice who wants desperately to get into Bristol Hillman Music Conservatory in LA for the summer. Her brother secretly submits a DVD to the school. When they sneak out to a concert, they get into a car crash and her brother dies. With her guilt and her father's disapproval, she no longer wants to sing and go to the summer camp. However she relents and follows her aunt and mother's advice. The big problem is that while Hilary Duff is almost good enough as an actress. She's no where good enough as a singer. She plays the bubbly innocent girl well. The big melodrama about the brother's death sets an interesting tone. However the school plays like a bad 'Fame' copy. Other than Kat Dennings, none of the students are interesting at the school. John Corbett is hopelessly cheesy as the personable teacher. It's a Hilary Duff vehicle that she's not quite good enough to drive.
Sara 'Chuckster' Bennett I've given this move the highest rating possible. As the tag line says, one of the top 10 chick flicks of all time.I highly recommend this film! If you want a tear-jerker, romance, singing-school kind of film this nails it on the head exactly. Hilary Duff really strives in her acting as Terri Fletcher in this movie about a talented girl who struggles to comes to terms with the death of her brother who wanted nothing more than to see his little sister make it in the world as a singer. She's packed away to school which thrives on upcoming music stars and there she finds her place in the world, singing next to Oliver James This film will make you weep, smile and even sing along once you've watched the film enough LOL!
karl_with-12 To be honest, the only reason that I was quite keen on seeing this film is because Hilary Duff is in it. I loved her in the TV series 'Lizzie McGuire' and movie tiles like 'Cheaper By The Dozen', 'Material Girls', 'Cadet Kelly' etc. And yet again, she continues to shine like a star in this movie. The idea of this movie was a bit random and cliché. Not to mean I hated to plot, but there's something about this film that reminds me of Camp Rock. A quite shy, nervous girl is picked to go to a big-time music school. At the school she finds great friends, a love interest, an arch enemy and her true voice. And then there's an idea of 'a final performance' at the end of the film which is a bit like the final jam in Camp Rock. How typical is that?! But there's also something about this movie that gives more than Camp Rock. Something extremely better! I felt bad for Terrie in the beginning of what happened to her brother. However it was a bit predictable. When they were coming back from the concert in my mind, I knew they were going to having a car crash and unfortunately they did. Yes I hate when that happens in movies, something good and then a dramatic twist. Also I think her dad was quite annoying, especially near the end, where he just barged into Terrie's room, packing her things and forcing her to go home, just right before her performance. But I'm glad he took notice of her abilities at the end.Hilary Duff (like I said) shined like a star in this movie. In my opinion there is no other Terrie, she was the perfect match to her role. Also, throughout the movie, she progresses in a fantastic way and I loved her song at the end. Her boyfriend was good too. I loved him at the part when he was drunk, really funny! Overall, I would certainly recommend this film to Duff fans. Even though the plot is quite similar to Camp Rock, it was still a million times better than it! Everything about this movie makes it a simply entertaining music flick. And I wasn't keen on hoping the film would be that good but you could surprise yourself!
fastrunnergirl When it comes to Hillary Duff's acting, I give the film a 10/10. The depth of emotion she gives to her character is bottomless. When it comes to the plot, I give the film a 5/10. The plot is one of those familiar schmaltzy plots, but not awful. Her singing, however, I give a 2/10. Hillary's voice is fine for pop music, but if she was trying to pull off being an academically serious music student, she failed. I do not wish to sound pretentious, but when singing an Eighteenth Century Italian Aria, one must at the very least use proper Italian. No pop fan likes to hear an opera singer singing pop. Well no one who properly understands classical music wants to her a pop singer with bad diction, spread vowels, no breath support, bad posture, neck tension, and a locked jaw take her chest voice up higher than it's naturally supposed to go. Also, it was very clear that her voice had been edited and enhanced. The significant number of missing overtones make it clear that she should not be singing standard classical repertoire. Some pop singers would do well with classical repertoire because they have strong technique. Hillary Duff is not one of them. I have no problem with the premise of the movie and I think her acting is terrific, but if they wanted Hillary to be portrayed as doing well at a prestigious music program, then they should not have chosen Caro Mio Ben or the Hallelujah Chorus as music to have her sing.
