FirstWitch A movie that not only functions as a solid scarefest but a razor-sharp satire.
robertj51 To all these people saying you do not have to be a j e w to enjoy this movie. Stop lying! This movie is 100% Jewish FOR j e w s. Did anyone else notice how there was always a lot of African-Americans used in this Jewish movie? It was almost like it was trying to link j e w s to blacks as somehow being partners in a "they hate both our people" way. And what is it with Jewish movies always having to have nudity? Do j e w s not get entertained by anything other than filth? (second time to meet the requirements) To all these people saying you do not have to be a j e w to enjoy this movie. Stop lying! danmax As a Muslim young man, i had no idea how the whole Jewish thing worked. After seeing this charmer, I wish i had had a bar mitzvah. The family reminded me a lot of the movie The Other Sister, funny, sweet, touching, mega moms. I think movies such as this should be shown to everyone, so we learn the value of understanding other cultures, like blatinos and koreans. I took a date on this movie cuz i thought it would get me laid...y'know what i'm talking bout! but then i just loved it so much i was crying with happiness throughout, and it kind of weirded her out, but i'm looking to find a nice looking woman who really understands these things, and doesn't talk too much, and likes good movies by this fabulous directors, who has on his resume gems such as Runaway Bride (a.k.a. Pretty Woman 2), Pretty Woman 1, Raising Helen, Beaches and Exit to Eden. Shall I say more? i wanted to buy this movie so bad when it came out on DVD that i considered camping out in front of the store, but Tammy said, wait. I ended up buying it at my local Blockboster for only 3.99! Keep it real, boyz!
wrlang Keeping up with the Steins is about a young Jewish boy named Fiedler in the days leading up to his bar mitzvah who learns what becoming a Jewish young adult is all about. Add to that the long lost grandfather coming back into town and the tension that causes between his father and his grandmother and you have some good comedic kindling. An additional plot point is the initial scenes as everyone is taking part in the Steins bar mitzvah on a cruise ship – very expensive and intricate planning. Will the Fiedler's keep up with the Steins in spending for the occasion? The acting was good and everything was timed perfectly for the delivery of some good humor, especially if you speak pig Latin.
verbusen I actually watched this movie on a plane flight. So? you may be asking yourself "What's the big deal about that?" Well this flight was on an Arab plane! I was flying on Gulf Air from London to Kuwait, and the flight was pretty full (aren't they all nowadays?). And they had just shown X Men 3 (its a 6 hour flight) and up pops the Jewish kid talking about his Bar Mitzvah, MAN! I started looking around to see if anyone was like gonna freak out because this movie is unmistakably Jewish! Luckily no incidents involved and I got home to Kuwait safe. I just had to tell that story, to me if they can show a movie about Jews on an Arab flight there may be hope in the world after all. About the movie, I once converted to Reform Jewish to marry a Jewish girl when I was much younger, that didn't work out and I didn't keep up with it, but growing up with a lot of Jews in New York I did find it humorous at times. I would only see Reform Jews truly enjoying this movie because the characters don't strike me as very conservative. It's no American Pie because the kid is only 13 and its really not for kids, so this movie is really hard to like a whole lot, but I did watch it through because I was on a flight and I chuckled a little. All light weight in the end though, there was little resolution done with the Grandfather and the relationships he left behind (like his Wife).
