Vashirdfel Simply A Masterpiece
StyleSk8r At first rather annoying in its heavy emphasis on reenactments, this movie ultimately proves fascinating, simply because the complicated, highly dramatic tale it tells still almost defies belief.
Verity Robins Great movie. Not sure what people expected but I found it highly entertaining.
Candida It is neither dumb nor smart enough to be fun, and spends way too much time with its boring human characters.
Jason Voorhees Couldn't be better. The whole road trip just went to hell. Fun horror that can be enjoyed by so many. Perfect one to watch with those who aren't big horror movie fans but don't mind the odd one. This is the one to watch.
benjaminmarkgilmore I watched this movie a few years back with my father, he is probably a bigger fan of movies then me. He sat me down and asked if I wanted to watch this little unheard of horror movie which at first I declined because I had never heard of it and back then I wasn't interested unless it was a big budget film etc. Now being a huge horror fan and a bit of convincing from my dad, I took a seat and honestly didn't expected a thing from this movie, boy was I wrong!. This film is gold! For several reasons. Instead of your typical cheap thrill, jump scares and loads of blood and gore horror movie, Dead End does the complete opposite, by trying to show and tell as little as possible and let your mind and imagination run away with it, for me personally, the not knowing scares me more. This movie also throws in a lot of dark humour which I really appreciated about it but also keeping that fear factor and the not knowing. If I had to pick one thing that stood out for me? Well apart from the directing and the story which deserve praise, for me personally it was definitely the acting and the characters of everyone in this very small cast! Ray wise is amazing as the typical grumpy dad and was and my favorite character in the whole movie! ( honestly his amazingly funny!). Lin shaye is equally fantastic in it as well as Mick Cain and Alexandra Holden who play the son and daughter. A very dysfunctional family who are thrown into a world of unknown terror!.Now i won't give away any details as I believe it ruins the experience, all I can say is if you love movies, horror and abit of comedy thrown in then please go and watch this. It's fantastic!!8/10
jtindahouse I, like most people, absolutely hate it when you see posts on the IMDb message boards of people claiming they knew the twist in a film was coming. Now though, I have to be one of those people unfortunately. Very early on in this film I made a bold and emphatic prediction about how this film would end, and I turned out to be right. The main reason I think I came to that conclusion was because from the very early stages this seemed very much like a 'Twilight Zone' episode, and there is an episode of that show with a very similar story and ending. The surprising part though, was that despite having correctly worked that out, this was still one of the most enjoyable film experiences I have had in years.Wow, what a film! It caught me completely off guard how good it was. The very early stages had me worried. I feared I was in for a PG-13, run-of-the-mill and bland experience. Boy, was I wrong. It takes no time at all to get the story very much alive and kicking, and then from there it never eases up. Modern horror seems to have delved into basically how many jump scares they can fit into 90 minutes. 'Dead End' shows, like great horror movies tend to do, that jump scares are completely unnecessary, and that with share intensity you can captivate an audience and have them on the absolute edge of their seat for the entire run time. The other thing about this film is the incredible amount of layers it has. It works as a horror, a thriller, a mystery, a drama and even at times a genuinely funny comedy. Every one of those elements is done to perfection. I could not believe it when I came to IMDb to find that the two writer/directors Jean-Baptiste Andrea and Fabrice Canepa were complete novices, and what's more have barely worked since. How is this possible? These two should be being compared to Hitchcock, instead they seem to have almost vanished off the face of the earth. Very disappointing. I can't say enough good things about this movie. I plan to watch it again and also recommend it to a lot of people. I'm very glad I took the time to track down a copy of this film and go back and watch it. An absolute must-see!
BobforTrish It is Christmas Eve and Frank Harrington (Ray Wise) is making the annual pilgrimage to his mother-in-law's. Accompanying him are his wife Laura (Lin Shaye), son Richard (Mick Cain), daughter Marion (Alexandra Holden and his daughter's fiancé Brad (Billy Asher). For the first time in twenty years he has decided to take the scenic route...After falling asleep at the wheel and hitting another car the family come across the mysterious Lady in White (Amber Smith) and their initial attempts to help her lead them into a deadly and seemingly perpetual journey involving gory deaths and a mysterious black car. This attempt at a familiar horror genre is lifted to a slightly higher level than the norm due to a well-crafted script which, aside from having some well-timed comic lines, gradually allows us to see bubbling family resentments coming to the surface as madness descends. Whilst there is little in the way of on-screen gore we are given enough clues to - if you'll pardon the pun - piece together the pieces. The arbitrary twist ending is quite clever enough to satisfy this reviewer at least and the film does not overstay its 85 minute length.Considering that the budget for this film was reportedly $900,000, first-time directors and writers Jean-Baptiste Andrea and Fabrice Canepa have put together a taut little thriller aided by Greg de Belles' minimalist score. We often find in low budget horror films a motley cast made up largely of amateurs and members of the production crew. Fortunately, other than débutant Billy Asher the main players here are experienced enough to add a little gloss to the proceedings. Special effects, along with cinematography and editing, considering obvious budgetary restraints are more than passable.
