Ella-May O'Brien Each character in this movie — down to the smallest one — is an individual rather than a type, prone to spontaneous changes of mood and sometimes amusing outbursts of pettiness or ill humor.
Deanna There are moments in this movie where the great movie it could've been peek out... They're fleeting, here, but they're worth savoring, and they happen often enough to make it worth your while.
Scarlet The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.
Caryl It is a whirlwind of delight --- attractive actors, stunning couture, spectacular sets and outrageous parties. It's a feast for the eyes. But what really makes this dramedy work is the acting.
octbeb I loved this movie so much that I bought my own DVD of it. It is wonderfully made, acted, written and follows the book really well, (which I have read.) I give it 10 out of 10 stars.Based on the true story of Lieutenant Leola Mae Harmon, a pregnant army nurse who is about to finish her duty. One morning on her way to work Leola is hit head-on by a drunk driver. Her face hits the windshield and her car falls down the cliff. This accident severely disfigures her face and she loses her baby. Her husband eventually leaves her because of her face. The driver also gets leniency. She sinks into a deep depression. But then Dr James Stallings takes an interest in reconstructing her face and gives her back her lips. After 40 additional surgeries she got her looks and face back to normal. They eventually got married.
gghutson1 I saw this movie years ago when it first appeared on TV and I completely fell in love with Armand. His eyes are mesmerizing. I love movies based on real events. The actors made me really believe in the agony and heart-rendering pain the real people went through to bring Leona back to the valuable life she was meant to live. I felt totally involved in the whole facial reconstruction process, which I thought was absolutely amazing--especially the ideas the surgeon and Leona came up with to solve each reconstruction problem. This is the kind of romance I enjoy--the kind without sex scenes. This was real acting. We have a friend who comes over every other Saturday to watch movies with us. We will definitely order this one because I know my friends have never seen it.
raroberts This is a wonderful film for both those who have and have not experienced such trauma. I saw this film in the 80's. I had a car accident in 1997. My face popped through the windshield, leaving me temporarily blind and with deformed facial features that required a half dozen surgeries over 3 years. Today, you'd never know it ever happened to me, my surgeon was amazing, but when Leola unwrapped her bandages for the first time and saw her face it sent chills down my spine. I cried when I saw my face too... I believed my whole life was over. The portrayal of her emotional state immediately after the accident, her absolute need to get "back to normal" and back to work just 5 weeks after the accident, and especially the patience required to let the skin heal through the initial trauma and all of the follow-up surgeries was absolutely accurate. There is something for all of us to learn from Leola's story and I am glad they put her story on the screen. MFTV, yes, but one of the best of these types of films, and certainly one of the most inspirational and accurate survival stories I have ever seen.
Ruth My sister and I saw this movie years ago and LOVED it! We enjoy a before-and-after story, and this movie depicts this theme beautifully. It covers the horror of a car crash, the heartbreak of being divorced for shallow reasons, the medical community at its best, and a love story with a happy ending.I want to own this movie.
