Michael Ledo An alien vs. earth film that doesn't take place in L. A. Two software developers go to Moscow to present their software only to discover the Russians already have an exact copy. Unfortunately the beginning and their talents don't factor later into the film. They meet a couple of other Americans at a nightclub and when it looks like they are going to score aliens attack the planet (story of my life). These are not ordinary aliens. They are mostly invisible and like Predator seem to hunt by infrared. They kill humans and barking dogs using some kind of microwave beam that causes living things to explode (the cool part). Our focus group of 5 young adults hide in a large storage closet that has food. Now what? Do you A) stay put until all the food is gone, then maybe venture out to get more food, hoping that the aliens have killed enough humans. And if captured all they would want to do is probe you?or B) Try to find the US embassy so they can get you back home. Personally I would go with "A" because I know for a fact the US embassy does not have contingency plans for an alien invasion. Perhaps they need to advertise that more.** mid point Plot SPOILER? but not ending**Our group chose option "B". Later they discover the aliens can be killed with a "Ghost Buster" looking weapon and there is a Russian sub in the river awaiting survivors...but not for long. They meet people along the way. They gain a few and lose a few.To be honest I got a bit bored during the alien hide and seek part. There were no monsters to see, so they saved a ton of money on make-up and special effects. I didn't feel much intensity. The acting was okay considering the lack of a script. They needed to add a little humor, maybe a love scene with an "exploding" ending. Asylum dull.2 f-bombs. No sex, or nudity. Some hip-hop song lyrics were suggestive.
kev0131 This movie is atrocious. I'm trying to think of a worst alien movie but I cant. If the makers of this made it any worse it would be humorous like Sharknado which is much better. What were Emile Hirsch and Olivia Thirlby smoking to sign up for this? I downloaded this thinking it was the new movie Darkest hour with Gary Oldman but soon realised I made a huge mistake. The first 10 minutes looked promising but omg is all i can say. I had to fast forward most of it even though its less than 90 mins long because it was unbelievably boring and a load of nonsense. None of the science about electromagnetism or whatever in it made sense. The Russian fighters wearing chains and wires for whatever reason was ridiculous. I cared nothing for the characters, i wished they would all be killed off at the same time as soon as the aliens landed. Its not even worth going through whats wrong with this low budget garbage.
mikevonbach This was a bit of fun to watch, nothing special, like an above average sci-fi channel flick, but fun to watch nonetheless. Hasn't been a box office hit or getting much in the way of good reviews, but if basic alien invasion is your cup of tea, you will probably enjoy it too. I liked the aliens, not your usual lot, and the Moscow sets. The cast gave decent performances as well. I would have liked to see more of the invaders and would have liked a few more battle scenes, and could have enjoyed it just as well without the 3D effects. All things considered, I will add it to my collection when it's available on disc. Catch this during a matinée if you must, but you'll probably like it a whole lot more on a theater's big screen than waiting for HBO.
jlthornb51 Filmed on location in Moscow, this outstanding film boasts a superb script beautifully realized with stunning special effects. The acting is extraordinary as well, with an exciting cast of fresh young faces you will sure to see much more of in the future. It is the direction that takes the prize, however, and it is both visionary and expert. The Moscow location is an excellent concept but a film with such a great script, a director with imagination and skill, and beautiful cinematography could be set in New Jersey and still succeed. And this one succeeds as no one could ever imagine, with excitement, thrills, and important existential insights that permeate the intelligent writing. Don't miss it!
