BoardChiri Bad Acting and worse Bad Screenplay
MusicChat It's complicated... I really like the directing, acting and writing but, there are issues with the way it's shot that I just can't deny. As much as I love the storytelling and the fantastic performance but, there are also certain scenes that didn't need to exist.
Humaira Grant It’s not bad or unwatchable but despite the amplitude of the spectacle, the end result is underwhelming.
Kaelan Mccaffrey Like the great film, it's made with a great deal of visible affection both in front of and behind the camera.
Gypsi Bates In this romantic comedy/drama, Suhan (Salman Khan) and Piya (Preity Zinta) are divorced, and she is asking for alimony which the out-of- work actor can't provide. When a former college classmate (Agastya played by Akshay Kumar) confesses to being in love with her still, Suhan decides the best thing to do is to help Agastya win Piya, to avoid alimony. The only trouble is that Suhan still loves her, too.Despite a few too-silly parts, this movie is truly funny with many laugh-out-loud moments. Khan and Kumar play well together, and Kumar makes an excellent straight man. Zinta is convincing as both college student and adult. All three portray their emotions well. Anupam Kher, was surprisingly convincing as a little person. The songs are good, with two particularly so, and there is some nice choreography. This is a thoroughly enjoyable film, with a good mix of comedy and drama, that shows all three stars to advantage.
begha786 First of all, let me tell you that Jaan-E-Mann was not a commercial success although it was a critical success. Actually, Jaan-E-Mann deserved to be a commercial success as well. Jaan-E-Mann is a love triangle of sorts and there is nothing really novel about the story. So how is Jaan-E-Mann still interesting? Because of the way it is told. Jaan-E-Mann is narrated and shown in a beautiful way that -despite being an ordinary story- still makes you guess what will happen and still keeps you interested. A movie with a story like Jaan-E-Mann could be easily be boring and fall flat but Jaan-E-Mann doesn't. Jaan-E-Mann is also very realistic and some of you might feel that this is your own story. Also, Jaan-E-Mann has all the elements you look in a Rom-Com. It is funny and sad and has its share of romantic moments. The songs are great and what I like about the songs are that they don't stop the flow of the story but rather go WITH the story and help carry the story forward. The direction by Shirish Kunder is good. He is an under- rated director. The editing is above average. The script is great as well. The background music is great as well. Now, coming to performances: Anupam Kher, Javed Sheikh, Aman and the rest of the supporting cast were really good. Preity Zinta as Piya was good but was not given enough opportunities in this movie. Now, the hardest decision is to choose who acted better: Salman Khan or Akshay Kumar? Both of them have contrast characters. Salman Khan plays Suhaan who is an arrogant and over- confident guy while Akshay Kumar plays Agastya who is a kind, naive and shy guy. Both of them have great chemistry and play their roles beautifully. The best moments for both them were: Salman Khan: The opening song which shows Suhaan's and Piya's relationship, when he is with his daughter, when he comes to know the truth, when he finds out that Agastya and Piya are engaged and in the epic song, Sau Dard. Akshay Kumar: every time he laughs, every time he goes to woo Piya (you can see his nervousness and excitement), in the song, Ajnabi Sehar, and the scene in front of the mirror when he finds the truth. Also a thing to notice, this role is VERY different from Akshay's usual roles so to perform this role so well is a great achievement. Conclusion: Buy a DVD and watch it.
xpics Jaanemann is like a phuski Diwali rocket. It starts on a very promising note and takes your expectations sky high. And just when you expect it to explode and display a dazzling air show, it collapses and disappoints big time. Jaanemann is a film that entertains in parts. Actually it entertains in halves. The first half of the film is extremely entertaining while the second half is a major letdown. Director Shirish Kunder had a great sense of visualization and he has also interpreted his ideas in a brilliant flamboyant manner on screen. Salman Khan's introduction scene set in black-and-white in a Filmfare Awards Night of the mid-70s is a skillfully edited and executed sequence. Anupam Kher's character of a dwarf is implemented with technical finesse and exudes an endearing charm. The sets, art design, costumes and the entire glossy look of the film is even a step ahead of the Johar-Chopra clan and, undoubtedly, is visually appealing. The geek look of Akshay Kumar in the initial reels and Salman Khan changing his get-ups from a rock-star to Elvis Presley to even a drag has been meticulously worked. There is a lot of tongue-in-cheek humour in the first half that succeeds in having the audiences in splits. And if you are still wondering why isn't there any mention about the story of the film, that's because it comes into picture only in the second half. And that's where the entire problem begins. Because Jaanemann tries to narrate an outdated tried-n-tested, done-to-death triangular love story! Agastya Rao (Akshay Kumar) is a NASA astronaut. But don't expect him to ignite any patriotic feelings in you like Shahrukh did in Swades. As a college nerd he was in love with Piya (Preity). But Piya married Suhaan Kapoor (Salman Khan). Subsequently Suhaan and Piya separate. That's when Agastya comes back into picture and falls in love with Piya. And while this duo is about to get married, Suhaan's love for Piya rekindles. So who gets the girl? The answer is absolutely predictable if you have seen anything from Dil To Pagal Hai to Kuch Kuch Hota Hain to Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. The two halves of Jaanemann contradict each other. While the first half establishes the unique characterizations and imparts a fresh feel to the film, the conventional storyline in the second half nullifies the entire effect. While the first half has some hilarious moments, the second half treads the tearjerker path. When Akshay Kumar, who is funny in the first half, gets emotional in the second half, the scene turns unintentionally funny. While the first half spoofs many a Bollywood cliché, the second half itself is so clichéd that it turns victim of the antics of the first half. While the dwarf Anupam Kher is integral to the story in the first half, the character is completely eliminated in the second half. Instead what you are served with is another Anupam Kher who isn't a dwarf but a full-length but a half baked character, totally irrelevant to the plot. One wishes to see more of the character than the actor in the script. After a long time, you love to see Salman Khan. Neither does he ham, nor does he underact – he is simply adorable and perfectly controlled. When it comes to humour Akshay Kumar never goes wrong. His laughing style in the film is as impeccable as his comic timing. Preity Zinta is good. But why the hell did they cast Aman Varma in the film? The hamster is a pain to the senses. And watch out for Pakistani actor Javed Sheikh (Preity Zinta's father in the film) going gaudy in the family song. Shirish Kunder's editing and scene-merging technique is superlative. Unfortunately he ends up being a good editor but a bad storyteller. And blame it to him since he is also credited for the story, screenplay and dialogues of the film.
bk_connection Yet again the Salman and Akshay magic has created a DHOOM again. This movie is so simple made and yet so stylish and "Hatke se". Iam not gonna write about the story, that U can read everywhere else or just see the movie.Salman Khan has done a brilliant job again, he his caring this movie on his wide shoulders and giving the movie a special look and touch with his comedy and emotional role.
