BoardChiri Bad Acting and worse Bad Screenplay
Keeley Coleman The thing I enjoyed most about the film is the fact that it doesn't shy away from being a super-sized-cliche;
Kaydan Christian A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.
Mathilde the Guild Although I seem to have had higher expectations than I thought, the movie is super entertaining.
uma Most Overrated,Unrealistic And Worst Film i ever saw in my life.first what or where is the story,sorry i never frustrated watching any films,but this one really irritated me.is this Indian culture,having child after marriage leave his wife for love-affair? come to unrealistic characters uff the all characters do one thing properly crying especially Maya crying crying which is most irritated me.dev who even didn't understand or adjust his wife at least for his son when he found again his old love-affair he simply go her.for me it is a little problem between husband and wife (dev and rhea problem as same as like rishi and Maya) but karan created like it was a biggest mistake in a life,yes karan tried to justified dev and Maya characters like they tried and wanted to understanding their respective spouses or make them understood.but karan failed in this point because whenever dev and Maya met they only developed or recreated their love for each other.i feel they didn't really wanted to understand their spouses they only wanted their happiness which is i found selfishness.totally hated the characters of dev and Maya.i really really sorry for poor rhea and rishi does not mean i loved them,because how can they forgave dev and Maya who are betrayed them.finally this film thought us story is the real hero or success of the film,not the big stars and even the good costumes and good locations dragged me to like this film.this is karan worst directional film how can he thought Indian people or cultured people like this film which has extra-love affair as a theme,which has the characters like dev (who has small innocent child,dev didn't thing his decision will affect his child or make his child suffer or change his child character in future he only thing his happiness what a selfish soul) and Maya (who acted her whole life like she wanted to save her married life but her behaving told me she just wanted to her happiness like dev and every time she betrayed rishi and always fighting with him instead of make him understand she is overacted and selfish).i extremely regretted watched this film it made me lost my money and my valuable time.
shinta_ps Well, this movie is quite different with another Hindi movies which often contain the sweetness of love. This movie is realistic. It might not be something that lots of people wanna watch, because there is an ugly truth inside it. But that's life darling, and I learn a lot from this movie I really love how every line, sentence, and words said by the actors has meaning in it. The story might not be sweet and joyful, but the line is enjoyable. Every word is arranged nicely to be a sentence that has a philosophical meaning in it. It always breaks my heart as I listen to every word in this movie.Karan is brave enough to make something different, and i think he has succeed. He can tell the ugly truth, what's going on in life these days, which is a bad one, with the sad, tragical yet beautiful movie like this. And it's not all bad actually, because this movie contains a lot of moral value that you can learn.Your opinion might be different than mine. I mean there are lots of you who might think different. But still I love this movie.
G Singh Had this film been made by another company such as the Bhatts or even UTV, I do not think KANK would have gotten the flack it did when it released. The biggest fault of this film is not that it has flawed content, it is more that the film is made by Karan Johar. At one hand, we have people criticize Karan for making fantasy, candy-floss type movies and when he comes up with something different here, we still criticize him for making a "cheap" film. Really? Make up your damn mind.Ignoring the heavy unnecessary criticism towards the film, I'll step up and say KANK is a brilliant take on infidelity and human behavior. It's a great take on true love. Above all, KANK makes a simple statement in a complex story - The only reason to marry someone is that you truly love them.KANK is a bold film and there is no doubt. The film not only features the lead pair being married and engaging in an extra marital affair, but has every main character being gray. Every character has a right and wrong side to them. Which is totally opposite in other Karan Johar films.The most important scene in the film is the very first one, if you do not analyze that scene and watch it carefully - you pretty much miss the whole point of the movie.Dev is a successful soccer player and Maya is a confused bride. They meet at Maaya's wedding for the first time and have a minor and seemingly insignificant connection. After 5 years, fate brings them back but the difference here is that they are both unhappily married. with that realization, Dev and Maya try to help each other by saving their marriage. One circumstance leads to another and Dev and Maya fall for each other. Then starts a love that changed all relations.The film does have a few drawbacks here and there. It is a tad bit too long. The comedy is great but one or two scenes could be cut to make the film more crisp.Also, as much as I love Karan Johar films. I feel that maybe he compromised with the script. I felt it could have been handled in a way less clichéd. The whole film is unconventional so why not the climax? It isn't bad but just saying.I loved the whole art of the movie. The locales. New York City is very close to my heart and to me, it's the best city in the world. It is like life, there is happiness, sadness, joy and tears. The film depicts and the gloomy part of it with beauty. New York is a character of KANK.Shankar-Esan-Loy's music is soothing and fits in well. Unlike other Kjo films, KANK does not boast of 8 songs. It has 5 and I feel "Where's the party tonight" could have been edited. Tue music is a treat indeed. The title track, Tumhi Dekho Na, Rock N Roll are all wonderful. My favorite is Mitwa.Karan Johar and his co writer come up with a deep script and here there is an engaging screenplay and great moments. Karan Johar films have epic moments. Editing needs work though.Karan's direction is top notch. The drama unfolds so smoothly. Note the scene when SRK is walking towards Rani with flowers and sees Preity right behind her. One of the most intense scenes I've seen. Plus, I would like to give Karan credit for getting out of his comfort zone and still making a film worth applauding.Amitabh Bhachchan is a treat to watch. The man is a delight. Ditto for Kirron Kher. Preity gives a bravo performance. Rani Mukherjee suits the role and gives a great act here, as always.Abhishek Bachchan is just remarkable. He gives a mature performance. He's the guy you really feel for in the end. Just an amazing act.Nobody shines brighter than Shah Rukh Khan here. He is the energy in KANK. Note the depression, the cynicism, the hate in his eyes. SRK just rocks in a role he's not really seen in often. Superb! Overall - It's a bold film with a bolder message. If you believe in good cinema, watch it!
jahangirhussain74 'Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna' is Karan Johar's latest attempt after 'Kal Ho Na Ho' and it explores the theme of extramarital relationships.'KANK' tells the story of Dev (Shah Rukh Khan) and Maya (Rani Mukherjee) who embark on an extramarital relationship because they are neglected by their spouses, Rhea (Preity Zinta) and Rishi (Abhishek Bachchan).To start with, the idea isn't refreshing or novel at all. This theme of adultery and misunderstanding between husbands and wives were experimented umpteen times in Bollywood. But the treatment that goes with telling the story is appreciating. Karan Johar brings a certain amount of depth into the characters and makes us connect to their emotions. But there's one inconsistency in the plot and that is Dev and Maya's relationship. Their relationship looks like nothing more than physical attraction. The two end up in bed too quickly before even giving any chance to their spouses to realize their shortcomings.'KANK' rests on SRK and Rani's shoulders. They perform ably and bring certain depth to their characters. Preity Zinta and Abhishek Bachchan are good too. Amitabh Bachchan also has his moments. Kiron Kher is lovable. Editing is good and is in sync with the pace of the movie. Cinematography is awesome and the locales of U.S.A have been captured to the fullest. Choreography could've been better.'KANK' is a must watch.
