Wordiezett So much average
Fairaher The film makes a home in your brain and the only cure is to see it again.
Senteur As somebody who had not heard any of this before, it became a curious phenomenon to sit and watch a film and slowly have the realities begin to click into place.
Plustown A lot of perfectly good film show their cards early, establish a unique premise and let the audience explore a topic at a leisurely pace, without much in terms of surprise. this film is not one of those films.
Robert I saw the first and loved it. The second one had new actors, a totally different plot, nothing from the first film is recognized. However, they have MANY laughs, many cool special effects, and so on. Also, the way they presented the story, although kind of lame, was done well. But I watched this with my 7 year old sister who did enjoy it quite well and I was surprised that she wasn't scared during the "Scary parts"The DVD actually contains a lot of potentially interesting and informative information about how they made the movie, which is helping me as a wannabe-filmer to get ideas and knowledge about filming. So I rate this 5/10, mostly because of humor and special effects.
bootderek And to think that a sequel was made. I was expecting better. The first Inspector Gadget was great. Matt Broderick and Rupert Everett delivered. This was a pathetic follow-up. They replaced Broderick with French Stewart, who did a rather poor job. They got rid of Joely Fisher's Brenda Bradford and replaced her with a poor rendition of Star Trek's character Data. Dr. Claw is back, but not portrayed by Rupert Everett. Instead, we're given a villain who is attempting to go for the gold and plans on ruling the world with it all. Not original. ANY VILLAIN WILL GO FOR RICHES AND BE INTENT ON THREATENING THE WORLD WITH SUPPOSED SUPERIORITY! The only actor that was brought back was D.L. Hughley, who voices the Gadgetmobile. However, modifications were made and did not make that particular character as entertaining or interesting as in the first film. Michelle Tratchenberg is replaced by a kid who wishes to tag along as a overenthusiastic sidekick. The animation, special effects, direction, photography, and story were all unoriginal and pathetic. If I'm being harsh, it's only because I liked the first better. If they make a third film with the same kind of stuff, I don't recommend it for anyone who's looking for a good time, the same with this film.0/10
general-melchett This film is no masterpiece, but I didn't hate it either. In fact, many a time did I watch it when I was younger - and I honestly enjoyed it. It is a B-movie, with no cinema run, but is free from the clichés of the genre - no cheesy sound or visual effects, no rubbishy acting and no hideously contrived plot. I found this film hilariously funny - and it actually conveys a sense of mystery - what did happen to Claw's face? This film was obviously done on a high budget for a film of its calibre - none of the effects look hideously cheap. The time-stopping sequence may have been no Oscar contender, but it certainly was not the worst I've seen. The movie is very predictable, but all movies are these days - and Inspector Gadget 2 is about the gadgets and fun, and on that scale, it delivers. When Gadget cleaned the toilets and was thrown across the entire police station when his brush went erratic ranks amongst the funniest things I have ever seen - and that's up against some heavy competition. The film does contain some original ideas - to have a female Gadget who was a huge rival to Inspector Gadget was a very good idea, and the main premise for the movie. It is fun trying to watch Inspector Gadget win her heart, and though there aren't any Oscar-worthy performances to be seen, there is some character in this film, and it is hugely funny. Another cracking idea was to have Claw's new base at a bowling centre - makes a change from the multi-million dollar headquarters in the first one. And another great idea was to have Inspector Gadget as a bit of a bumbling imbecile instead of the hero in the first one - it worked well, and actually added to his charm. He also got sacked in this one - it happens halfway through or so, but it doesn't take a genius to know that he's going to rise again. Which he does.Though it is predictable and no masterpiece, Inspector Gadget 2 is an absolutely hilarious film and beats the first one hands down - it will have you in stitches. Good, but not quite spiffing - Inspector Gadget 2 is not a letdown, and certainly not a cheap, nasty looking one. (The gold deposit actually looked really convincing - but I'm sure they didn't have to spend $5,000,000,000,000 on it (as it said in the film) or even have to bother getting a real gold bar.) And on the visual scales alone, it delivers. A good film, and one that I strongly recommend if you have any sense of humour whatsoever. 8/10
vchimpanzee At the start of the movie, Inspector Gadget pulls a little old lady over for driving 25.3 in a 25 zone. Of course, this moron can't accomplish this one little thing without a production worthy of Shirley Muldowney. I mention that name because he advises the lady that drag racing on public highways is not allowed.Of course, this is only one of the many hilarious incidents in a fun live-action cartoon with lots of great gadgets, made funnier by wild and crazy animation.Gadget himself is not the only moron here. With all his abilities, gadget master Baxter has been responsible for numerous glitches in the equipment that simply add to the zaniness.Dr. Claw, of course, is out of jail. Riverton, declared America's safest city because of the Gadget program, has been selected as the new site for a Federal Reserve branch that will hold $4 trillion in gold. Working with his minions from the former Bowl-O-Rama plant, Claw plots to steal this gold and take over the world. To do it, he will need laser technology, which will utilize a giant bowling pin, and what is apparently the world's largest ruby.Gadget must stop this fiend! But he will have help--or maybe be replaced totally--from the latest model, G2, a pretty girl with no personality. Gadget falls for G2 despite the threat, and the feeling seems to be mutual. What will happen? With all the problems in the Gadget program, can the villains be stopped? A crucial member of the team will be Gadget's adorable yet bright niece Penny.I can't remember the first film clearly enough to say which one I liked more. French Stewart plays bumbling idiots so well, although I will admit he was better on "Third Rock from the Sun". Elaine Hendrix made the most of a role where her character shouldn't show emotion, but even this robotic character couldn't avoid doing just that. Tony Martin is great as Claw (at least for a cartoon), and the actors playing his minions also were funny. And Caitlin Wachs was so darn cute! (I know, I've said that about her before)The visual effects provide a lot of the humor, though there's plenty of funny dialogue too. I would say that while they were not on the scale of a big-budget film, they were quite fascinating and enjoyable. There's not really anything here to concern parents. If you can deal with cartoon violence in the tradition of Bugs Bunny and Tom and Jerry, this is a fine kids' movie. In fact, the gags seem designed primarily for kids. But adults can enjoy them too. One possible caution--Penny is shown to be in potential danger, but you know they wouldn't let a child die in a film like this. Right? It's a fun and nearly harmless film for kids.
