Acensbart Excellent but underrated film
TrueHello Fun premise, good actors, bad writing. This film seemed to have potential at the beginning but it quickly devolves into a trite action film. Ultimately it's very boring.
Gary The movie's not perfect, but it sticks the landing of its message. It was engaging - thrilling at times - and I personally thought it was a great time.
Darin One of the film's great tricks is that, for a time, you think it will go down a rabbit hole of unrealistic glorification.
deumick I wonder if Jack even existed. Since Dell wanted her to lie to him in his most vulnerable state it was necessary for her to create this big lie about Jack and her being pregnant to make him believe in love and save their future together. She made up the lie in the car on the way to the shooting range, but before she could tell the truth he broke up with her, saying he didn't love her, wondering if he ever did. Don't think she saw any reason to tell about the lie at that time. Time after that she had to stick to the story to have a chance to win him back. To make him realize.
aliceguzman Just finished viewing this movie... All I have to say is that it was beautifully created. There are rarely any films that leave me speechless, and this was definitely one of them. The story line was so realistic, although it is obviously unreal.. it's very hard to describe. Most movies portray what we want to see.. what we wish could happen. That's not the case with this movie. There's not much else I can say without spoiling it... But this is definitely one of my favorite movies now, and I think that everyone should watch it. I have to keep writing because unfortunately IMDb requires 10 lines of text for a review, but I've already said what I had to say. Just see it!
TheNew Neandertalien Produced by The Propagandist Cabal: smoking, drug use(?), cheating, divorcing, mixed-racism... Art: misleading advice to couples; good actingThe director of "Comet" is Sam Esmail. He was later appointed as "creator" of the 2015 brainwashing blockbuster "Mr Robot". The Propagandist Cabal took control of the Hollywood and in each movie sadistically programs young and old into smoking, using pharmacological and illegal drugs, drinking liquor, cheating-divorcing, "mixed-racing". "Mixed racing" means forming mixed race couples. And "mixed-racism" means the nauseating repetitive propaganda of mixed race mating.Propagandist programming in "Comet" is lighter, but you can check almost all of the check-boxes for the brainwashing points enumerated above. The money to make Comet came from Tobacco industry and similar from the "pool of sponsors" of The Propagandist Cabal. The artistic part gives a misleading advice on how to meet and impress your future wife(over sophisticated talking is not the best way), and on how to behave when you are a couple. The parts where a couple breaks up and the guy feels miserable are portrayed correctly. The two main actors do a great job. The writing is smart enough (outside the crap imposed by The Propagandist Cabal) but misleading, does not describe reality. The director Sam Esmail is probably an idiot (based on his twitter, an interview to HuffPost and on "Mr Robot"). He didn't write any of the dialogue. He may have done the confusing editing. Survival Rule: do not get back together with your ex girl friend after she went out (slept) with another man. Waste of time. The verdict: 1)due to propagandist programming, teenagers and most of young adults, should not watch. People able to spot brainwashing and to resist it can watch. It is somewhat entertaining; 2) do not pay for it. Tobacco industry and the rest of The Propagandist Cabal already paid.TheNewNeandertalienEn.Wordpress.com
eddie_baggins Whatever one was to say about this ambitious and often highly effective indie Sci-Fi/Romance, there's little doubting that Comet is one of the most visually striking and uniquely crafted films of recent memory and a hugely effective calling card for first time director and boyfriend of Emmy Rossum, Sam Esmail. While it would take some time to discover all the nuances and narrative conundrums of this original journey, Esmail's directional eye and way with words is something to behold, no better magnified by the fact that Comet really is a 90 minute conversation driven piece that is not dissimilar to a Woody Allen or Noah Baumbach film. From emotionally charged scenarios through to comical situations, Comet often masters a raft of different genres and it's musings on life, love and the plausibility of parallel dimensions is balanced to wonderful effect by Esmail. The film, as mentioned, carries a fantastically appealing visual flair, from strange framing, beautiful lighting and nice visual ticks Comet looks a treat, even more so when considering its low end budget. It's refreshing to see a filmmaker utilise the tools at his disposable and all the good work Esmail does with his screenplay and directional style would've come to naught had he struck out with his main actors but thankfully you'll find here arguably career best turns from Justin Long and Emmy Rossum. If Long's Dell and Rossum's Kimberly had failed to create a chemistry led spark, Comet would've been an exercise in artistic frustration but in these two relatable and often impressively created characters we have two humans that we can both relate to, enjoy and even dislike. It's a testament that both these actors keep the films narrative intact, even when things seem to be gathering steam towards an incomprehensible whole. With these two young actors at centre stage, Comet really becomes a memorable experience.Comet is enjoyable, moving and original and while not everything works completely within this high reaching dialogue driven outing, there is enough that clicks to make it one of the most accomplished directional debuts and romantically tinged movies of recent years. Something akin to a less whimsical 500 Days of Summer, come the films quietly beautiful finale, Comet is a film sure to impress all those who enjoy wordy and brain scratching character studies.3 1/2 Chinese food orders out of 5
