Tedfoldol everything you have heard about this movie is true.
Curapedi I cannot think of one single thing that I would change about this film. The acting is incomparable, the directing deft, and the writing poignantly brilliant.
Ava-Grace Willis Story: It's very simple but honestly that is fine.
napierslogs "Love and Other Disasters" is just as the title says. It's about love and love-like disasters mistaken as love. It's not your typical romantic comedy because it's better than that. There's quite a few lines that are making fun of the genre but paying a sort of homage to it as well. The late Brittany Murphy stars as Emily Jackson, 'Jacks', who takes her cues in life and style from Holly Golightly. The filmmakers as well have taken their inspiration for the look, feel and tone from "Breakfast at Tiffany's".The best character in the film is Peter played by Matthew Rhys. In romantic-comedy-speak, he's the gay best friend, but again, he's better than that. He's very funny and in a much more realistic way than the other characters are, and his musings on love probably mirror those of the audience more than the other characters. The film is very fast-paced, with witty dialogue, and a light-hearted manner. I recommend "Love and Other Disasters" for: fans of "Breakfast at Tiffany's"; fans of the dialogue of "Gilmore Girls"; fans of Matthew Rhys; and definitely aspiring-screenwriters - the filmmakers have made a number of inferences to the craft of screen writing that I think it becomes a must see.
trepessa I just watched this movie which was about a girl, American, working in England as an assistant at Vogue. Her career was sort of a side issue to all the antics going on with her love life and that of her gay roommate. I thought Brittany Murphy was charming in the part she played as "Jacks", a wannabe matchmaker for her gay room mate. What makes it comical is she matches up the new photographer's assistant assuming he is gay with her roommate. It is a comedy of errors and mistaken love attachments. There were parts I burst out laughing. It isn't plausible to me for real life but it was very entertaining. The photographer's assistant, Paolo, is from Argentina and they want to deport him just as his career takes off after the main photographer walks out on a shoot because he gets in a verbal squabble with Paolo and "Jacks". Paolo takes over the shoot and his photographs are published. In the meantime, she breaks up with her boyfriend and he is jealous of Paolo even though Jacks thinks he is gay, but her room mate and her boyfriend know differently. He reports him as an illegal alien and he is being deported. Jacks still doesn't know he is not gay and suggests they marry to keep him in the country. At the court wedding he admits he isn't gay and he loves her. She walks out feeling betrayed and he takes off to Argentina. She recovers and tries to catch him and misses the flight and subsequently takes another flight to Argentina. The room mate writes a screenplay on their life which is changed for the big screen with other actors playing them in a movie which they view at the end. It shows Gwenneth Paltrow meeting Paolo at the airport being played by Orlando Bloom and she confesses her love and they kiss. In the mean time it shifts back to the real characters watching a screening of the film and everyone leaves with a very pregnant Jacks. They all live happily ever after. There are other side stories with the gay roommate and some of their friends, but this is the basis of the movie. It is light and funny and I loved this movie. It is really sad that Brittany Murphy passed away because I think she was a really versatile actress and will be missed. The moral was you choose love and love is a chance one takes, it's a leap of faith.
Sérgio Sanchez There's a dialog introducing the Argentinean character that says he was found at Ipanema Beach! For me, as a Brazilian, it is almost an offense. If the writer was American I would understand it because they normally don't know anything about other countries. When I was young I studied in New York and it was very frequent for me to have to answer questions such as "Are there snakes in the streets of São Paulo?" Or "Is Buenos Aires the capital of Brazil?" I hope that this sort of thing doesn't happen anymore. We are living in an instant communications era! Today's films should have better revisers concerned with details about geography, politics and general knowledge to avoid incorrect information.
donwc1996 If you loved Clueless and remember the girl that was made over, Brittany Murhpy, you will love her all over again in this absolutely first-rate movie. The promise Murphy showed in Clueless is more than realized here as she is the pivotal character around which all action navigates and the other characters gravitate. London is the setting, a city a college buddy of mine calls the most civilized place on Earth and where he retired years ago. This film shows London at its best and you can hardly wait to get off your seat and book passage to that great urban center where young, sophisticated, gorgeous, talented people are remaking the world in their own way and which is shown so well in this film. The story is fresh and enchanting and the handsome, beautiful people who populate it are a delight to behold, each more wonderful than the last.
