BootDigest Such a frustrating disappointment
Claysaba Excellent, Without a doubt!!
Fairaher The film makes a home in your brain and the only cure is to see it again.
Marva It is an exhilarating, distressing, funny and profound film, with one of the more memorable film scores in years,
jtjhennessy Going into it knowing that TV (or movies for that matter) will never completely nail military realism, I really liked this show. Right from episode one, I was hooked. Unlike nearly anything in the genre, you can tell that the main actors were actually trained in weapons handling. Their drills - if a bit too stiff, robotic, and lacking in fluidity - were, for the most part, legit, practiced and understood. Moreover, I love that the good guys weren't always "good guys". Anyone who says that any mission can be accomplished by only good deeds is being willfully ignorant - full stop. What knocked my rating down was: 1.) The acting, characters, and overall effort on the "homefront" portion was consistently flat. What made it even worse was that it seemed as though the actors and actresses knew it and couldn't be bothered to put in the effort.2.) It absolutely oozes patriotism. It's an American show about American soldiers, I understand that. Some amount of patriotism should be expected and rightfully so! However there is no need to lay it on as thick as they did.3.) This show repeatedly pushes the religious beliefs of its creators - sometimes in hilariously ridiculous ways (see a previous review about the spear of destiny) and sometimes in offensive ways (the vilification of Kim Brown in "SERE" for being atheist, followed by her seeing the light at the end).4.) Pretty much everything about season 4. Why would you decide to adopt a season-long story arc four seasons in? If it ain't broke, don't fix it! It was like a low action, low story, low nudity version or Strike Back (which, by the way is a superior show in every way).
rukmal1987 When I first came across this series I was expecting an action packed one since the series is about the covert operation units of the US army. But i was disappointed with what i saw. well it has action, but the what ruins this series is the showing of the family point of view of the officers. just think about it. if this was a action drama series it would be appealing to a crowd who enjoys action. but instead of that they add the family side which mostly includes how the wives cope with all this. do you really think that we want to see that in middle of a gun battle? that has brought down the effectiveness of this series. it distracts you. since most of the women are too ambitious. you get fed up with 'kim' because she always want's it her way. well if they wanted to portrait the family side of it they should have gone and made a separate series without spoiling this one. my advice is that if you are able to block your thought while the family side is shown then you could enjoy this series. else you too would find the interruptions fairly annoying.
imdb-630-284398 This entire series is outstanding. I am kicking myself for not paying closer attention to it when it was on broadcast television. Bought all 4 seasons on DVD and have been watching them in order. Stays truthful to Haney's book and his input and influence on the episodes is obvious. When CBS put Season 4 on Sundays at 10:PM, it was the deathnell for the series. During Football season, because of late game over-runs the entire Sunday night CBS prime time lineup often starts late, and, at unpredictable times in the east and central time zones. Almost impossible to build or maintain an audience when you never know what time the show will begin. Check the fate of any drama that CBS puts in that time slot (during the fall. Basically a great series got screwed! Too bad Shawn Ryan couldn't get FX to pick it up. This show is right up there with 24 and in many respects, even better. There is enough on-going connective story to keep die hard fans moving from episode to episode, and, for the occasional viewer each episode is a stand alone story. Something 24 does not have. If you've never seen The Unit, or like me, was just a casual viewer, get season 1 episode one and start watching. You'll be glad you did
fgmorley I downloaded this off the p2p internet and it didn't cost me anything. I live overseas and had never heard of this series until recently. It sounded as if it might be entertaining, and the first season was, for the most part.I'm now into the second season and the stories seem to be getting lamer by the episode. I am particularly offended by the s2e6 - Old Home Week. First of all, the action part of this episode is very weak. Without even attempting to make clear what the point is, other than some vague references to diamonds, they are supposed to be BAAAADDD? Oh, I get it, they came from West Africa, so they must have been Blood Diamonds. What a crock of pure BS.But the really offensive part is the bit about a long lost letter written by a GI during the Battle of the Bulge in '44 to his lover, that is then outed as a letter to his gay lover. And all this after they had dragged his 85 year old surviving widow on stage to hear it. This is in such poor taste, even if it is fictional, I can't get beyond it. The lengths that the Gay and Lesbian folks will go to indoctrinate the current viewers and impugn the dignity of our men who fought the Second World War are tasteless. And yes I say impugn the dignity. This episode will stick in my craw. For in those days it was not considered anyone's business which persuasion you might be. And it certainly is not anyone's business today. The writers couldn't wait to spring the big surprise on the old widow character and their audience. It was BullSh!t. I doubt that I will download or watch the rest of the series, since the agenda seems to become clearer by the episode. The story lines are weaker as they progress.
