Smartorhypo Highly Overrated But Still Good
Allison Davies The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.
Philippa All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.
Marva It is an exhilarating, distressing, funny and profound film, with one of the more memorable film scores in years,
TheBlueHairedLawyer The Baby is a hilarious, disturbing, creepy and yet strangely cheerful thriller about a mother and her three kids. When a social worker comes to investigate, she meets Baby, a little boy... who is really a grown man! Naturally she is shocked, and starts trying to find out if something is wrong, much to the Wadsworth family's annoyance as she starts trying to have Baby taken away. As it turns out towards the extremely shocking ending, her motives for being so interested in Baby are stranger than the entire film itself. Why does The Baby have such awful reviews? Granted it's a little weird and freaky, but come on, it's just a low-budget thriller and a very original one at that! There have been complaints in the past few decades on the term "retarded" being used in the movie, but ignore these complaints, the movie was made in the 1970's and it was still a common phrase then, it doesn't make it right but it is no reason to never watch the film. Baby's actor was great, imagine being an adult man and having to throw yourself into the role of an infant! I love the soundtrack, it's nostalgic and eerie, and overall The Baby was a pretty creepy an suspenseful film.
atlasmb "The Baby" is one of the oddest films you will ever see. A social worker is suspicious of a family that includes a grown man called "Baby" who behaves like an infant and wears diapers. The women in the family seem invested in his remaining baby-like. The mystery of this horror film lies in learning their true intentions. Or does it?"The Baby" feels like the second offering in a grade B, drive-in horror double feature. Some of the production values are adequate, but they are undermined by the rambling background music and the incessantly annoying and fake baby sounds that supposedly come from Baby. The film has its roots in "Psycho", but falls far short of Hitchcock's mastery. The director does use light effectively and he is able to frame a scene, but otherwise the film is nearly laughable. The ending is a surprise, but it falls short of delivering on the film's promise of shock or horror.
JasparLamarCrabb A sickening movie starring the great Anjanette Comer. Comer is a social worker assigned to a family in which the youngest child (an adult) is kept as a baby, complete with diapers & crib. Comer has more on her mind than just the child's welfare. The boy's mother, played by Ruth Roman, is a man-hating harridan who does everything she can to keep Comer away. She's aided by her two adult daughters, a couple of white trash vixens (played by Susanne Zenor & Marianne Hill). Ted Post directs in the most straight-laced manner, it's take a bit of time to realize that this film is a grotesque black comedy. The creepy music score is by Gerald Fried. Michael Pataki plays Dennis & Beatrice Manley is Comer's mother-in-law. David Mooney is "baby."
Leonard Smalls: The Lone Biker of the Apocalypse I went into this one totally blind- I was actually expecting a cheeseball, low budget ripoff of "Rosemary's Baby." Boy was I mistaken. This movie is totally strange and uniquely disturbing; and I mean that in a good way. The image of the baby playing ball and trying to stand up will be forever burned into my psyche. The day after viewing, I found myself thinking of his awkward movements and his upsetting cries.Nice little twist at the end- not on the level of some flicks today. but hey for '73, it definitely impressed me.Recommended for fans of early John Waters, 70's TV horror movies, etc. Would make a good double feature with "Bad Boy Bubby." 8 out of 10, kids.
