Claysaba Excellent, Without a doubt!!
FirstWitch A movie that not only functions as a solid scarefest but a razor-sharp satire.
Aiden Melton The storyline feels a little thin and moth-eaten in parts but this sequel is plenty of fun.
Zandra The movie turns out to be a little better than the average. Starting from a romantic formula often seen in the cinema, it ends in the most predictable (and somewhat bland) way.
ralph-679-740589 I am writing this review because I can't believe the low ratings on Rotten Tomatoes. This is one of my favorite movies, I can watch it again and again. I love the very large-scale plot with a lot of big ideas, surrounding and enveloping the electrifying relationship between the Diesel and Thierry characters. And Michelle Yeoh is awesome and kick-ass, as always. And I love the fascinating religious undercurrents and the statements it makes about manufacturing miracles, etc. Heady stuff!
Theo Robertson On paper this possibly held a lot of promise . A high concept plot mixing action and adventure as a man on a mission leads a couple of damsels though badlands where other people are on a mission to kill them . The unfortunate thing is that when printed page is transmuted in to a film being broadcast on my television quite often it loses a certain everything . In effect what is supposedly a clever thriller ends up a noisy mess with lots of explosions and the only thing worth cheering for is the end credits Set in the near future tough mercenary Toorop accepts a job from a Russian gangster to transport a teenage girl Aurora and her guardian Rebeka to America . From the outset Aurora hides a secret . According to Rebeka Aurora is a child prodigy who is multi-lingual and has superhuman knowledge . There's nothing to indicate this is true and the film at this point is guilty of the screen writing rule of " show don't tell " but then Aurora drops a bombshell by revealing she is pregnant even though she's still a virginIt's at this point I had a flashback to one of the late Christopher Hitchen's monologues on the immaculate conception: " What one's more likely ? The whole natural order coming to a stop for a moment in time or some Jewish minx telling a lie ? " . Considering Aurora is quite happy to make a pass at Toorop I'm guessing she's as pure as grey slushy snow with yellow bits speckled amongst it . And there's not a lot of ambiguity involved , this indeed the second coming though if it'd be a miracle if the movie deserves a second viewing Don't be taken in by the relatively impressive cast because none of them make an impact . Vin Diesel is there to spout lines , kill people and remind everyone a gym is no substitute for an acting school . The rest of the cast that include Depardieu , Rampling and Strong are obviously just there for the pay cheque in a film that is more interested in explosions that only exist in empty hollow films like this . You know the type of explosions I'm talking about , those ones that see a rocket with a warhead weighing about two pounds and yet the explosive yield is obviously twenty pounds of semtex and ten gallons of napalm . BTW have I mentioned this disposable Hollywood rubbish is directed by the same bloke who gave us LA HAINE . How high the mighty fall
davidfurlotte In all fairness this review is based on the theatrical release and not the Director's cut which according to rumours actually has a plot that can be followed. This movie seems to have had a number of producers who sat around a table and said, "Look, "Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome" did good at the box office, "The Fifth Element" did good at the box office and "The Golden Child" did good at the box office, SO, if we combine all three of these movies we should do GREAT at the box office!" UHHH...in theory that would work but they forgot one teeny, tiny detail. All three of those movies had a PLOT that people could follow without having to keep some kind of notepad around to try and figure out what had HAPPENED in order to get these people where they were and try and figure out WHAT they trying to do.*****Here there be spoilers***** Problem number one: Nobody is trying to kill our heroine (the package) so why does she need all this heavy hitting power to PROTECT her to get her to New York? Problem number two: The person who wants her IN New York represents a group that ALREADY has her as part of them. Surely with the technology available they can STILL present her as a virgin mother to the world from WHERE she is living? Problem number three: Her "father" is trying to capture her and bring her to him. WHY did he not send his specially trained group to the convent to get her? She's inside a CONVENT, not some fortress with guards and weaponry. The movie really needs a lot of filling in the blanks in order to truly be worthy of the budget that was spent. Instead of spending the tens of millions of dollars on the hi-tech special EFX it should have spent some tens of thousands of dollars on putting together a SCRIPT and a STORYBOARD that made sense to the average viewer.I enjoy Vin Diesel as an actor and I even enjoyed him in this movie, but what COULD have been a good movie is really nothing more than a big budget FLOP. All in all save yourself the brain freeze of trying to figure it out.
t-mckoy I can honestly say this is the worst movie I have ever seen in my life. Ever. I think one of the first scenes pretty much sums up the whole move- Vin Deisel is sitting in an old car, and to get from point a to point b is lifted up by a magnet hanging from a helicopter, and transported that way, in an old rusty car swinging from a chain suspended from the helicopter. Why doesn't he just GET INTO THE HELICOPTER? I remember thinking. From there it goes steadily downhill. I feel as tho the director was aspiring to be somewhat like M. Night SHayamalamananamanan, as the twists came fast and hard. there were so many in fact that the viewer is left completely unattatched to anything in the story, and completely utterly confused. The black twin at the end pretty much summed it up. How the heck can one twin be black and one be white. And then VInnies final "come inside, kids, there's a storm coming." laughed out loud.
