Senteur As somebody who had not heard any of this before, it became a curious phenomenon to sit and watch a film and slowly have the realities begin to click into place.
Janis One of the most extraordinary films you will see this year. Take that as you want.
Kimball Exactly the movie you think it is, but not the movie you want it to be.
Cristal The movie really just wants to entertain people.
Tony Cruz The previous reviewer's negative, anti-Christian and anti-American rhetoric almost seems deliberately contrived because it perfectly underscores the struggle that the protagonists in this beautiful story endured. This movie is about courage, triumph and redemption, in that order. The subliminal point of the movie's main hero is that when we willingly give up the "bread of freedom", one crumb at a time, we lose track of when the whole loaf is gone. This is also exemplified in the quote taken from Ronald Reagan's California Gubernatorial address in January of 1967, both at the beginning as well as the end of the story. Marshall Teague and Jennifer O'Neil are masterful in their interpretation of a senior couple still very much in love and just as importantly, still in unmitigated support of one another. The rest of the cast without exception, does a superb job of interpreting the various threads of the story line, whether their roles are villainous or virtuous.I cannot recommend this movie enough to anyone who is proud of what it MEANS to be an American and what it means to believe in someone much greater than ourselves. See it with someone you love, particularly if that someone includes a man or woman who's served or is currently serving in our Armed Forces.
gunslinger19 I know lots of Christians and they really don't seem this dumb or confused about how logic or the world works. This movie is insulting not just to all other beliefs and non-beliefs but it is insulting to Christians by painting them all as drooling morons who don't understand how laws, lawyers, wars, teenagers, plays, politics, or the government works. Fine it is a movie and it isn't suppose to represent reality but if that is the case this movie has the exact same amount of truth and facts in it as Transformers, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Teenage Mutant Ninja turtles, but it is somehow less entertaining than any of those movies. The movie actually probably deserves 1 star, but in this case I am rewarding this movie for its production value being better than the average Christian movie. Some of the acting was competent and the cinematography seems competent. Now if the Christians can find someone that can write a decent story they may make a movie that will appeal to people that don't even believe in the magical sky daddy.
susanders03 Oh my, what a powerful film and shows what we the people are so upset with our Government - take away our Christianity...I don't think so! In God we Trust is what our nation was created upon. I don't know how our Govt. can base 14% ACLU and change all our God given rights. Our flag-under GOD-our $ In God we Trust- Merry Christmas & the Manger Scene belong me me & at 75 yrs old...I can use these sayings & be proud that God has a plan and I know he is not happy with our Government! God Bless the maker of this film. Saw it at my daughter's and instantly ordered it from you. Saw it again with my friend last night and she loved the truthfulness of the film.
Katie King When I found this movie I was a little Apprehensive unsure of its content but it turned out to be a amazing inspiring movie that touched my spirit, heart and mind and brought to thought A Talk by President Thomas S Monson of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints which he gave to the brethren of the Church in which he described his first Sunday at boot camp. " I shall ever remember when Sunday rolled around after the first week. We received welcome news from the chief petty officer. Standing at attention on the drill ground in a brisk California breeze, we heard his command: "Today everybody goes to church—everybody, that is, except for me. I am going to relax!" Then he shouted, "All of you Catholics, you meet in Camp Decatur—and don't come back until three o'clock. Forward, march!" A rather sizeable contingent moved out. Then he barked out his next command: "Those of you who are Jewish, you meet in Camp Henry—and don't come back until three o'clock. Forward, march!" A somewhat smaller contingent marched out. Then he said, "The rest of you Protestants, you meet in the theaters at Camp Farragut—and don't come back until three o'clock. Forward, march!"Instantly there flashed through my mind the thought, "Monson, you are not a Catholic; you are not a Jew; you are not a Protestant. You are a Mormon, so you just stand here!" I can assure you that I felt completely alone. Courageous and determined, yes—but alone. And then I heard the sweetest words I ever heard that chief petty officer utter. He looked in my direction and asked, "And just what do you guys call yourselves?" Until that very moment I had not realized that anyone was standing beside me or behind me on the drill ground. Almost in unison, each of us replied, "Mormons!" It is difficult to describe the joy that filled my heart as I turned around and saw a handful of other sailors. The chief petty officer scratched his head in an expression of puzzlement but finally said, "Well, you guys go find somewhere to meet. And don't come back until three o'clock. Forward, march!"As we marched away, I thought of the words of a rhyme I had learned in Primary years before:Dare to be a Mormon; Dare to stand alone. Dare to have a purpose firm; Dare to make it known."
