Terminal Island, New York: 2020. Overcrowding in the US penal system has reached a breaking point. Prisons have been turned over to a monolithic Weyland Corporation, which sees jails full of thugs as an opportunity for televised sport. Adrenalized inmates, a global audience hungry for violence and a spectacular, enclosed arena come together to form the 'Death Race', the biggest, most brutal event.

Linbeymusol Wonderful character development!
Crwthod A lot more amusing than I thought it would be.
Megamind To all those who have watched it: I hope you enjoyed it as much as I do.
FirstWitch A movie that not only functions as a solid scarefest but a razor-sharp satire.
bowmanblue Do you like fast cars and action? Then you should like this. But wait... it's a remake, therefore it must be dreadful, right? Actually, in this case, I don't know. I've never watched the original, but I understand it - like so many remakes - has its army of online defenders saying how this incarnation of the film doesn't compare to its source material. However, I like action. I like Jason Statham and, if I'm in the mood for some loud, dumb fun then I will certainly let this entertain me for an hour and a half.Jason Statham plays... oh what the hell, he basically plays that same tough guy he's played in every other recent action fight-fest. Anyway, take one dystopian future where prisons are funded by showing their inmates race to the death around tracks on pay-per-view, add a conspiracy to get 'The Stath' unfairly convicted and sent there in order to race... and you have the recipe for plenty of high-octane driving stunts, fist-fights among the inmates and the Stath snarling at anyone who gets in his way. Now, if you're into your films, you may vaguely be aware of its direction, Paul W S Anderson, and the various film franchises he presides over, mainly 'Resident Evil,' but he got his hands on 'Aliens vs Predator,' too. A lot of people say he can't write a good film. Actually, I may agree on that one, but I've always thought he was certainly a talented director who could handle decent action scenes. And, in a film about racing with machine guns, you're going to want the action to be good. And it is.There are a few other cast members the Stath interacts with. Most of them you won't remember, but Ian McShane does his best with what he's give to provide that 'Morgan Freeman-like' mentor figure to our bald, grumpy hero. Plus you have 'Generic Love Interest #657 and Jason Clarke (pre John Connor) as 'Evil Prison Guard #831' and, of course, the warden. Here, the warden is a woman... or simply 'Generic Evil Corporate B*tch #738? The supporting cast are all pretty much by the numbers and you won't remember their performances, let along their on-screen names. This is a Stath movie. If you like him, or action (specially racing), plus you've binge-watched the entire 'Fast and the Furious' franchise, then you should enjoy this. Put your brain on hold and just have fun.8/10 The Force is definitely strong with this one
michaeltolis By the time I entered to see this movie, I knew what to expect. Jason Statham. A movie called "Death Race". A poster with spiked cars and bazookas on them. Why the hell would I expect a "Deep Sophisticated Movie"?So, I grabbed 2-3 beers, some chips and started the movie!Hell I enjoyed it. And I was in Home. Don't listen to the critics. I love Sophisticated movies, I mean my favourite Director is Guy Ritchie and he tries to make every time a movie with a complicated plot. This is not Batman: Dark Night. It's a classic American Culture - Game-Like movie. Do you want pure Explosions & Guns entertainment to do something with your time? This is what you're looking for and it's good for what it is.
SeriousJest In the bonus feature "Start Your Engines – Making a Death Race," Anderson declares that he meant for this movie to be a darker, more serious, believable version of Death Race 2000. I've never seen the original, so he may have succeeded, but I found this film to be hokey in a few parts, including the ending. All of that being said, it is one of my favorite hokey car films. There is actually a compelling plot behind the race, plenty of great action, and a solid cast, including newcomer beauty Natalie Martinez, whom I'd like to see more of. While I wouldn't go so far as to say that you need to see this flick, I will say that you probably wouldn't mind watching it more than once, either. For more reviews and a kickass podcast, check out: www.livemancave.com
ZalmanAran Death Race is an action film. All of the story happens over a few days and nights.A few guys that are in prison want to escape from it and the warden of the prison thought of an idea. She wants to make a race with guns on the racers' cars. Whoever survives the race without getting killed gets the chance to leave prison. The background soundtracks are mostly rap, hip hop, and a few rock songs. There are a lot of special effects, such as explosions and shooting.I liked the movie. It has a lot of action, cool cars and an interesting story. The character that I liked the most is Jason Statham. In the beginning, his wife was killed by one of the racers in the prison. Then, the racer knocked Jason out and put the knife in Jason's hand. When the police arrived, they thought that Jason killed her because of the knife. When he's in the prison, he takes revenge and kills the murderer of his wife. Jason is a serous guy and fits in fast with the guys at the prison. This is why I like him. Most of the audience who will like this movie are teenagers and/or people who like action such as shooting, explosions, and a lot of special effects. the movie is for 11+ only. This is because little children will think that this all can happen in real life and they will be affected by the violence in the movie.I give the movie 9/10 stars, because the violence in the movie isn't recommended for under the age of 11. There are some scenes that are not real. For example: There is a scene where someone is jumping out of a car with an "escape chair", etc.
