Baseshment I like movies that are aware of what they are selling... without [any] greater aspirations than to make people laugh and that's it.
Fairaher The film makes a home in your brain and the only cure is to see it again.
Gurlyndrobb While it doesn't offer any answers, it both thrills and makes you think.
Lollivan It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.
laurathomson-82445 I hope that there will be a season 2, this show has kept me on the edge of my seat after each episode, and I will be greatly disappointed if it should end, if it does I hope the writers will do a final movie to tie up all the loose ends. It sure beats all the other nonsense and reality shows out there. The only drawback was it was on so late I had to record it to watch later, and this my have contributed to some of the negative rating. I have re watched every episode to see if there is anything I may have missed, I just can't get enough and so many cliff hangers.I know so many that have just started to watch it, I have talked a lot about it and they now are hooked. PLEASE don't let it end now.
USN-Retired Story telling is an art form. While there are many elements, plot development is basic. Then, there is conflict and struggle, and eventually some sort of resolution, either good (makes us happy) or bad (makes us sad or unhappy). Things can get complicated, surprising, confounding, and confusing, but in the end the story must have a resolution/ending. Unfortunately, this series was canceled after the first season was in the can. Perhaps it was unwise to try to stretch this story beyond one season. The entire story begs NOT to be a soap or a serial. Exactly where do you go once the conflicts are resolved with this plot? NO WHERE. And that's the problem. Someone decided mid-stream to stretch the series into another season. That's the way it was filmed. So, with no resolution to the conflicts, where does one go after seeing the last and final episode? Nowhere. I bet many will decide the time invested in watching this show is wasted.
Jason Zimmermann The story line is enough to want me to watch a new episode, but the show is predictable in some ways and absurd in others. The acting is marginal, except for Andrew McCarthy, who does a good job. I think that some of the writing is in place specifically to trick the viewer, but it's generally too contrived to effectively attain that goal. Several obvious solutions to problems are ignored for the sake of having the characters make the most extreme decisions. It's a nice show, but it's really helped with an actor like Andrew McCarthy who has a recognizable name. Other than that, it's an interesting idea with mediocre execution. With all that said, it's passable in terms of viewership.
throwntosafety The show took a great premise and ruined it by terrible casting and awful writing. First, the show takes place in Maine, which is the whitest state in the nation at 95+ percent and with a sizable population of people of French Canadian ancestry. Yet the main cast is half black and Hispanic and there is not a single person in the show with a French last name. This is completely absurd. Nor does anyone have any kind of Maine accent, not even the older people who get the occasional line, very bizarre for a small Maine town by the coast. There are other bad casting decisions but I won't list them because of spoilers. There is nobody in the show who is likable in any way, so you won't root for anybody. The twists and turns themselves are so stupid, and the behavior from the supposed professionals (cops, journalists) is so gross you won't understand why they are still involved with the case at all. The constant flashbacks and time jumps are very distracting, and not done in any kind of intriguing manner at all (think "Lost").Don't waste your time with this - for a much better series with a believable backdrop that won't make you roll your eyes every two minutes, check out the BBC show "The Missing." That one is already filming a second season while "The Family" seems headed for cancellation for good reason.
