Bea Swanson This film is so real. It treats its characters with so much care and sensitivity.
Suman Roberson It's a movie as timely as it is provocative and amazingly, for much of its running time, it is weirdly funny.
Frances Chung Through painfully honest and emotional moments, the movie becomes irresistibly relatable
Celia A great movie, one of the best of this year. There was a bit of confusion at one point in the plot, but nothing serious.
SlyGuy21 I don't know what it is about "Beerfest" that makes me love it so. Could it be that it takes me back to when I saw it for the first time in my teens? I don't think so, I thought "Super Troopers" was hilarious and I didn't like it as much when I re-watched it a couple of days ago. Could it be the story? Not that either, the story is pretty typical, run-of-the-mill good guys vs bad guys. I think what makes me love "Beerfest" so much is that the characters are great, the writing is hysterical, and it appeals to that inner party animal inside of me. While I've never drunk beer like these guys in my life, the movie's all about having fun and partying. There's no drama, suspense, terror, or explosions, it's just a feel-good comedy. This is only the second movie by Broken Lizard I've seen, and so far it's my favorite. So many jokes, so many memorable scenes, so many laughs, and so much fun. I highly recommend this, it might be dumb, but it's still a great ride. Also, note to self: Watch "Das Boot" as soon as you can.
SnoopyStyle At Johann von Wolfhause's funeral, his grandsons Jan and Todd are told to travel to Munich and spread his ashes during Oktoberfest. They cause mayhem and lose in an underground drinking tournament called Beerfest run by Baron Wolfgang von Wolfhausen (Jürgen Prochnow). They are told that Johann stole the recipe of the greatest beer and their Gam Gam was a prostitute. They go home vowing revenge by recruiting their college friends Landfill, Barry and Fink for an American Beerfest team. There is the general silliness from the Broken Lizard crew. It's got a few chuckles in a lot of stupidity. Everybody is mugging for the camera and nobody is playing the straight man. It's a functional comedy until a likable lead character gets killed. It's a real buzz-kill and the rest of the movie feels like a hangover. For me, it's a 6 until the death.
witster18 "If you attempt to drink this much - YOU WILL DIE!" I knew from that moment in the opening credits that I was in for a real treat. The plot isn't overly sophisticated, but it's above average for the genre. Like all of Broken Lizards work - this IS over-the-top. One thing I can say about this movie is that it is flat-out hilarious if you're not easily offended, or if you like to drink beer. This is also a clear step above Lizards' other work.Beerfest is not ashamed of what it is, and it is, perhaps, the greatest beer drinking movie ever made. Now, that's not a difficult accomplishment, but I would put this movie above 'Strange Brew'. This version of the true beer-party movie gets props for sheer beer-weight, and for the script. Jay Chandrasekhar's mind is seriously twisted, and we're all better for it.Worth repeated viewings. Flat-out side-splitting. The film is chock-full of quotable lines. There's only two reasons that I dropped this from a 10... one is the TOO-over-the-top frog bit at the beginning, and two is the sudden and unnecessary use of CGI in the final competition scene. They hadn't used CGI in the previous beer drinking scenes and I didn't see why they had to ruin it late. Maybe they'll acknowledge this for the sequel - which(serious spoiler alert coming) I seriously hope is just another Beerfest part two, and not a 'Potfest' as they inferred in the end of Beerfest. I want another Beerfest! Pass me a schnitts!
nicky_hansard I don't want to be another person who tries to criticize other people's opinions but seriously if one of your example's of why this was a bad movie is 'the German wasn't correct' or 'there accents weren't believable' then you have absolutely no idea what kind of movie this is. They weren't supposed to be accurate, they were supposed to be exaggerated takes on the stereotyped idea of what German's sound/act like...D'uh, just like all the other countries they portrayed in the show. I know I am being aggressive but it is annoying to see people complain about the accents (and then coming to the conclusion only ignorant people like this movie because they don't know any better)when they don't even grasp that it might have been on purpose. It is obviously meant for the younger generation because a lot of this stuff does actually happen when I go out clubbing or to a party. This is exactly the kind of movie that you watch while drinking with mates on the weekend (it is a whole lot better than a movie like avatar from that perspective) and yet it does have some underlying sophistication. I like the deep, thought provoking movies as much as the next intelligent person but YOU ARE ignorant if you can't see why this movie can be funny to a large number of people without automatically meaning they are 'lowbrow'.I think a lot of you need to get off your high horse. Just because you don't understand this kind of humour does not mean it isn't funny. Like the beer goggles scene, that was classic because I know the experience. Just like most guys my age could probably sympathize with.
