Chirphymium It's entirely possible that sending the audience out feeling lousy was intentional
Kaelan Mccaffrey Like the great film, it's made with a great deal of visible affection both in front of and behind the camera.
Rosie Searle It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.
Quiet Muffin This movie tries so hard to be funny, yet it falls flat every time. Just another example of recycled ideas repackaged with women in an attempt to appeal to a certain audience.
mattkerr-73017 A late addition to the now all-but-dead anthology comedy? A spoof commentary on the creeping corporate influence on American media? A massive middle finger to the audience?Pretty much all of the above.
yaktheripper I didn't hate this movie. It's witty, clever, intelligent and there's a sarcastic creativity at work behind the scenes. However...The Onion Movie, in the end, falls victim to sub-par comedic performances. That's the bottom line. A joke is only as good as the person telling the joke...this movie has good jokes and poor delivery thus it comes out stale, rushed, and it's timing is terrible. There are good actors in it...there are funny people in it..but just not enough to get the old funny-box ripping. I blame the director and the casting. Wrong people...wrong direction. A lot of people do love this movie and think it's the greatest thing ever. They say..oh it's for people with MY kind of sense of humor. Well mine is pretty wide....some of my favorite comedies movies and television include: Human Giant, The Dave Chappelle Show, Naked Gun, Airplane, I'm Gonna Get You Sucka, Black Dynamite, Family Guy, and pretty much all of Adult Swim's lineup. If your like me in your comedic tastes then you probably WILL NOT love this movie. Respect the script...no love for the final product.
mey_912 If you like satirical view of the world (or should I say USA..?) today, than you will also like this film. Watching this is like changing channels on cable TV. And it is very entertaining! This is not a typical film, it has several layers which, in the end, somehow, 'blend in'. Advice: do not expect too much, just go and see it - because it offers enjoyable hour and a half; also, it is not a typical comedy which can be seen these days, it is appealing and worth watching.I don't know what do people who say that it is lame or dull (people who write comments here) think that a good comedy is...? 'Onion Movie' doesn't have a typical story line, it doesn't have an important, serious and mind-blowing point; but it is funny and put together in an interesting way. And that's it.
DarthPaul85 I had no expectations for the quality of this movie, and I was really taken all over the place. The movie starts out GREAT! It really felt like a movie version of the onion articles and stories. I was thinking this would be the greatest skit-based movie since Kentucky Fried Movie......and then it just lost it. Almost in the blink of an eye, the movie goes from witty, satirical, and spot-on to low-brow, off color, and completely underwritten. It's almost as if two very different writers were at work here.If this movie had been condensed to just the good skits and articles, I would've given it an 8 or 9. However, the amount of uninspired unfunny material present in the second half of the film really brings it down.Still a hell of a lot better than the "Epic Movie" series.
