Alicia I love this movie so much
AshUnow This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.
Lela The tone of this movie is interesting -- the stakes are both dramatic and high, but it's balanced with a lot of fun, tongue and cheek dialogue.
Candida It is neither dumb nor smart enough to be fun, and spends way too much time with its boring human characters.
deadsenator What is it with people rating films with either a 10 or a 1? Is there something wrong with recognizing a film's shortcomings and flaws? Or its strengths for that matter? This film has both. This film feels like either a play or a made for teevee movie. Sort of an "Afterschool Special" type of feel. I'll call this a shortcoming of reduced production costs. For example, we know that the house was on fire, but we never see it. Not necessarily a big negative, but films that skimp on these types of things can tend to have less of a visceral impact on the viewer. I felt this scene was countered somewhat by hearing the entertaining fireman's radio chatter in the background. These types of details lend to the intelligence of a film and are a nice plus. There are quite a few of these touches in the film and I greatly appreciate a filmmaker believing that there is smart audience watching. As far as the acting, it felt a bit wooden to start, but the characters seemed to warm a bit as we progressed through the story. Paul McGillion was my favorite in this one. The other two main characters felt a bit more strained or forced in their performances. Not a lot, but just a bit and it was enough to distract me. The plot was readily apparent after the ladder "accident" so there were no surprises for me in the end. This did not damage my attentiveness or opinion of the film as I already struggled with turning it off from 3 minutes in. I felt this way throughout the film, but I am okay with having watched it to the end. Cute. I'll call it a cute film. The Telltale Heart (this appears to be the book he is gripping at one point) aspect of the film was mildly entertaining, but overall the film's limited production costs make this a character piece and the characters are not all that deep or believable to me. Entertaining? Sure. A 10? No. A fat 5 in my book.
sea_otter8 I thought this movie was fantastic. I loved the silly, physical humour mixed with the dry macabre humour. I couldn't stop laughing through the whole movie. I especially enjoyed watching the acting talents of Mars the very talented dog. He was always right on the mark and showed a wide diversity of incredible talents throughout the movie. I think everyone should watch this movie. It's one of the best I've seen!!Good job to all the cast (including the adorable doggies) and crew for making such a fantastic and enjoyable movie!
Yorkshire Lizzie What a fab movie! Well acted and definitely well written this little gem is an absolute must see! The plot is a little obvious but even so you are hooked as its a laugh a minute and you just have to see how its going to turn out. Kate Hewlett is most definitely a talent that we will hopefully get to see a lot more of in years to come. She commanded the screen and as a female -I completely related to her and was with her all the way. David Hewlett as always completely nuts and pure genius from a comedy perspective. All in all a 5 Star rating from me. If you want a genuinely fun and relaxing evening this movie is the one to get. For those with no sense of humour? - it may just educate you!
emoTWiLiGHT Wow. This is an incredible movie. Who woulda thought the actor who plays Rodney McKay could create something this wonderful?! Well, I had my suspicions. When I heard about "A Dog's Breakfast" I wanted to see it. But when I found out it had Paul McGillion (the deceased Dr. Carson Beckett from Stargate:Atlantis) in it, I was dying to see it. I regularly checked adogsbreakfastmovie.com (formally known as dgeek.com) for updates. The more I heard about ADB, the more I couldn't wait. When it came out on DVD, I, sadly, was broke. Luckily, we have Netflix. So when it came, I popped it in right away, even though I had not yet done my schoolwork. tehe. It was hilarious! I literally had to pause the DVD to laugh when Patrick kicked the air and flipped over backwards. Then I couldn't breathe for about 3 seconds, I was laughing so hard. The movie was so great, I didn't even suspect the ending until, well, the ending! Once they started with it, I knew where they were going, but before that, throughout the movie, I had not expected it to end how it did. Great. Very brilliant. I applause David Hewlett and all the actors in the movie for a job well done. David, when's the sequel?
