Micransix Crappy film
Stoutor It's not great by any means, but it's a pretty good movie that didn't leave me filled with regret for investing time in it.
AutCuddly Great movie! If you want to be entertained and have a few good laughs, see this movie. The music is also very good,
sol- Stuck in a 'Groundhog Day' style time loop in which she experiences the same day again and again, a teenage girl unwittingly discovers a way to alter the next day before it repeats in this intriguing horror film that reunites director Vincenzo Natali and screenwriter Brian King a decade after their electrifying 'Cypher'. As per 'Cypher', this is a film full of twists and turns and therefore anything more about the plot is best left unrevealed. Suffice it to say, several ideas are intriguing and the film keeps one guessing. Not as critically well received as his previous four features, the mythology here is more complex than in any Natali film to date with some bizarre things that the teen protagonist is able to do to get an 'upper hand'. The ending is also too upbeat for its own good with an unlikely deus ex machina in the mix; the film also becomes a tad reliant on boo-moments towards the end. The vast majority of the movie though is creepy in refreshingly subtle ways, like the teenager's inability to go outside and the 'In the Mouth of Madness' scenario she finds herself in as she futilely tries to peddle away. It is an undeniably atmospheric film too and it is the stronger moments of the film that ultimately stay in the mind, such as the way lead actress Abigail Breslin shudders and almost seems to collapse as a guest comes in from blinding white light after she first manages to alter the day.
dobbiesautographs at first this film reminded me of most 80's horror movies I.E , not much happening in the first hour or so , but when the movie starts to tie together WOW - very original and very well acted , the story line was so well written and deep , I won't say it had me on the edge of my seat , but it did keep my attention , even though after the first 20 minutes I wasn't sure it would , but I am glad I stuck with it , sometimes it does pay off and you get to watch something surprisingly good. if you are a fan of psychological rather than all action slasher , then this is a film for you - think of groundhog day meets the others , and you will get my drift .
GL84 On the eve of her sixteenth birthday, a teenage girl finds that her reliving the same day over and over again makes for her preparation to fight a sadistic time-traveling serial killer that's targeting others like her and must race to stop him.For the most part this one here was quite the fun and original effort. Most of that works comes in the form of it's exceptionally creative and enjoyable premise, which is something that really relies on a seemingly new take on a rather familiar effort. The first half here is wholly appealing with the set-up of the day repeating over and over again for her and the different routines becoming the norm that once this one devolves into the haunting notions of a ghost possibly in the house the tension is quite readily ramped up considerably. The numerous instances of things going bump in the house where there's plenty of creeks and groans let out, the thrilling Ouija game where she contacts the other side and the different scenes in the fog-enshrouded outdoors where the house is completely covered here makes for a thrilling series of scenes that come into play quite nicely with that strong premise to make this quite dark and chilling once the endgame is firmly established here in introducing the time-traveling murderer and his connection to their family. Including the strong scenes of her searching down in the basement where she meets a victim being burned to death in a huge chamber or the terrorizing family dinner sequence that throws in some rather outrageous visuals into the fray in order to really set up the film's phenomenal second-half where it goes into the chase in stopping the killer's rampage. By including the different time-jumps and body-switching all throughout here as it generates quite a fun bit of action within these scenes, there's plenty of fun to enjoy here as this one goes about the twisted nature of showing her being tormented by his actions and going after the families only for the end to really get the supernatural comeuppance in quite a chilling manner. Though this one gets in plenty of fun with this unique concept, it's also somewhat flawed here in that the story, for all it's uniqueness and creativity, is unbelievably incoherent and nonsensical. Not only is it nearly impossible to figure out what time-period in history that we're in because it just seems to randomly jump to one in order to suit the upcoming shock-scare devised of having the killer right around the corner, that manages to tie into the film's main running theme of being so utterly incomplete with it's own internal logic that it really falters here in selling this effectively. Not only are the time- jumps completely glossed over in terms of how they're accomplished, but the fact that it's so confusing about how they're able to possess bodies and perform other activities as these people is quite a long and troubled series of scenes that are nowhere to be found, all making this one really hard to keep track of at times. Otherwise, there's a lot to really like here.Rated Unrated/R: Graphic Violence, Language, minor smoking and themes of child death.
Wizard-8 I picked the Blu-ray of this movie from my local library more or less as random. Sometimes this way of choosing a movie can have you uncover an unknown gem. This particular movie, however, left me with mixed feelings. To a degree I can understand why others here at the IMDb have liked this movie so much. The direction is very atmospheric, managing to replicate at times what a real life dream can be like. The production values are solid for what couldn't have been a big budget. And actress Abigail Breslin does very well in the lead role, playing her role in a way that's likable, believable, and intelligent. But as I indicated in my summary line, the script for this movie should have been worked on some more before filming started. It often doesn't make that much sense, with rules and events suddenly changed around for no particular reason at all. And what happened in the past to put Breslin's character and her family in their predicament doesn't seem all that clear apart from there seemingly being more than one explanation; I'm unsure how the killer got all of his power as well as victims in his clutches.Despite the script problems, I admit that the movie did keep me watching to the very end. Any movie that can remain interesting despite major problems shouldn't be dismissed immediately. If you're willing to put up with a number of murky plot details, you may find this movie of some interest.
