AniInterview Sorry, this movie sucks
BelSports This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.

Wuchak Released in 2007, "30,000 Leagues Under the Sea" features an eccentric billionaire madman, Captain Nemo, who's obsessed with the underwater world and threatens to destroy the surface with only his underwater utopia remaining. His ship, The Nautilus, is a mobile submarine city and includes civilians. It's up to a Naval rescue crew, led by Natalie Stone and Lorenzo Lamas, to stop him. This is a The Asylum flick, a company known for its low budget knock-offs of major productions. I've only seen a couple of their films and actually liked 2009's "The Land that Time Forgot" by C. Thomas Howell. That plus the fact that I'm a fan of Jules Verne, Captain Nemo and Mysterious Island gave me hope. The movie attempts a James Bond/Jules Verne hybrid in that it has the same plot as 1977's "The Spy Who Loved Me." Captain Nemo, played by Sean Lawlor, even looks like Charles Gray's Blofeld from 1971's "Diamonds Are Forever." Unfortunately, it fails on many levels. Lamas and Lawlor are effectively charismatic in their roles, but most of the rest of the cast are okay at best and sometimes downright bad. The CGI is cartoony, but serviceable for a low budget flick. I can forgive practically any production weakness if the story is captivating, but this is where the movie fails most. The set-up of the first half hour is relatively dull, but things perk up when Nemo appears. Unfortunately, the movie doesn't capitalize on this and it spirals into a boring darkened vessel adventure, like a bad episode of Deep Space Nine. On the female front Kim Little is fetching, but they don't do enough with her. By the last 12 minutes I couldn't wait for it to be over. The movie runs 86 minutes.GRADE: D+
Woodyanders The crazed Captain Nemo (robustly played with plummy relish by Sean Lawlor) wants to wreak havoc upon the world by turning the waves upside down. It's up to a submarine rescue crew to stop him. Sound good and thrilling? Well, it just ain't. Gabriel Bologna's flat and pedestrian (non)direction crucially fails to inject any real tension, energy, or excitement into the plodding narrative; instead this flick gets severely bogged down in a numbing surplus of drippy dialogue thanks to Eric Forsberg's blah and long-winded script. The mostly crummy acting likewise fails to impress, with the top thespic dishonors copped by the ever-wooden Lorenzo Lamas' stiff portrayal of the stalwart Lieutenant Michael Arronax and Natalie Stone's supremely grating turn as Arronax's bitchy ex-wife Liuetenant Commander Lucille Conciel (Stone sports one of the worst and most unconvincing British accents to disgrace celluloid in the last five years). The bland cinematography, terrible CGI effects (the giant squids are especially hokey and laughable), infrequent and ineptly staged action scenes, and generic marital score all don't help matters any. Moreover, this picture is too dull and lifeless to even work on a so-bad-it's-good kitschy level. A real stinker.
TheLittleSongbird Dear, oh dear, oh dear, what a mess. I have seen many bad things from Syfy but this is one of the worst. If you are looking for an adaptation of the wonderful story, don't look here, adaptation wise it is quite abominable. Not only that, it is a terrible movie on its own terms as well. The story is pretty much a non-existent and very sluggishly paced, while the dialogue is atrocious. The production values and effects look cheap too, and the direction is poor at best, abysmal at worst. The acting doesn't fare much better, Sean Lawlor does try his best but his character is very poorly written and developed and his dialogue is some of the worst of the film. Everybody else seems to not be trying. Overall, very underwhelming and a big mess. 1/10 Bethany Cox
Evan Franklin As someone who served in the Navy, I found this movie appalling. The filmmakers did zero research (or negative research... is that possible?) into Navy uniforms and overall military structure. They didn't even attempt to accurately recreate military uniforms or standards. Some characters are wearing enlisted and officer insignias, the guys have sideburns that are way too long, and the girls wear earrings that are way too big. They never wear covers, and one chick is wearing a headband through most of the movie. The only thing that I can figure is that the script of this movie was so horrible, the US Government wouldn't even give them permission to semi-accurately recreate military life.
