Zen The show got cancelled in Aug 2016 and that's a bloody shame.Just like The Daily and Colbert Report did The Nightly Show taught me a lot and without knowing it the show has changed my perspective on a few things, and I'm grateful for it.I love Stewart and Colbert but their clever, witty show styles can be and is copied now that big media realized its a cash cow (look at Full Frontal and The Democracy Handbook which I also love). But the Nightly has more soul and a great team that focused on race more than other shows and was a tad more serious and challenged the norm (like Wilmore's speech at the WHCD) which ultimately lead to its demise (which I believe is a very short-sighted decision by CC).I'm sure Yard, Albenese, Walker, Veles, Ramsey, Parra, Carlos, and Wilmore along with the Trump character and Felonious Munk will get jobs very easily after demonstrating the huge talent they are.
joey lavigne I am not a fan. Unlike the Daily show (under Noah or Stewart) and Colbert, this show is not very funny. It seems like the correspondents' bits are not very funny (and are repeated ad nauseam). I can't tell you how many times I've seen Grace Para's "Nightly Nightly!" bit. However, this is not the worst part. The show seems to focus exclusively on pushing an agenda and comedy is an afterthought. Every issue becomes a race or gender issue, and if it doesn't fit, Wilmore will stretch the facts to make it fit. I can only imagine that the people that actually enjoy this show enjoy it because it's simply a regurgitation of political views they already have. I highly doubt that the people that are critical of this show are feeling left out or racist (as some have claimed), it's just not funny (and frankly pretty obnoxious). Another issue with this show is the "keep it 100" segment. This is nothing more than an opportunity for Wilmore to pander to his audience. Half of his answers are clearly not true and lack insight, but they're what his audience wants to hear. I suspect that the reason most people watch this show is because they enjoy The Daily Show and @Midnight, but don't feel like changing the channel. I hope that Comedy Central replaces it soon as its audience is less than half of what Colbert had, though when this happens I'm sure it'll just be because "Comedy Central is racist."Tl;dr: I don't like it, it's basically just "that's racist!": the show.
techani Pros: + Brings interesting topics. + Dares to talk about uncomfortable (hence unfunny but meaningful) topics.Cons: - Issue with timing: interrupts serious talks with jokes. - No quality talk with guests: Most disappointment I remember is his silly segment with Bernie Sanders who wanted to talk serious but was spammed with small jokes. - Usually keeps silent for long until people stop laughing.About "Keep it 100" segment (panel discussion): It was the segment of awkwardness, but he started to be better. Conclusion: He has great potential, as long as he improves timing.
bletcherstonerson I see a lot of one star ratings about this show, I can't project on why those viewers did not like this show, but after viewing it from the start, it has gotten progressively better, it's at it's zenith. Larry opens and holds the conversation that the country doesn't want to have, but does so with humor and empirical data. This smart combination is presented in a format that allows us to laugh not at racial issues, but why we feel the way we do about those issues. Larry rips through the machinations of our Eurocentric culture and digs into the id and unveils what we have the hardest time observing, our nature. This is all done with great satirical wit and a strong sense of irony that permeates the conversation. The best part of the show is Wilmore, what you see is what you get, him being true to himself as comedian and satirist alone is worth the price of the ticket, your time.
