Gutsycurene Fanciful, disturbing, and wildly original, it announces the arrival of a fresh, bold voice in American cinema.
timothyquaid Primeval- about a giant monstrous crocodile terrorizing a village, believe it or not is a true story. There actually exists a beast of this sort and even has a name- Gustave, which makes the thoughts even more harrowing. Anyway, the film is alright- I barely have any recollections but it is a decently made B movie. The shots with the croc were quite good. I am going with a 4 stars but I feel just because of the rarity of the subject you should give this one a shot.
simonvanrooij70 Who am I to judge?! The concept of dinosaurs in the modern age is a great concept. The concept of a door to the past is better. I would have liked to see more travels to the very remote past. To look for the beginning of life itself. To look who's build the pyramids, etc... Going back into time with a big group of soldiers and scientists. The series seems to have been made to please a young adult demographic. The atmosphere of the scenes are childish. I would have liked a much more darker feeling to this series. And less comic-like characters. It makes this series too predictable. I think that a great opportunity has been lost with this series. Such a shame, because It could have been great.
A_Different_Drummer This show took me by surprise, and that's hard to do. As clever as the current crop of TV writers may THINK they are, they are essentially riffing on someone else's stories. (Like the man once said, there are only 4 basic plots anyway). And then along comes this. It was fabulously clever. Temporal anomalies. Beasties popping through. All kinds of strange dynamics among the group, strange motives, conspiracies, love triangles. When Juliet Aubrey turned out to be bad, that was good. When Hannah Spearritt ignored the protocols and "adopted" one of the creatures, that was ever better (and later episodes put the little guy's life in jeopardy more than once). The high rating is for the concept, the execution, and holding interest over several seasons. On DVD or streaming, this should be more fun than a barrel of hammers. And here is a tip -- I peeked at the IMDb page for the sequel, which was little more than an attempt to resurrect a dead show in North America using complete unknowns (something they tried to do, believe it or not, with THE AVENGERS decades ago). The few episodes I saw were wretched. Avoid it.
e-pitome-ome Time to update your sound effects libraries. Sci-fi fans don't really want cheesy, but it is what we have been forced to live with. Re-cutting your special effects is just cheap. Speaking of cheap, why do every one of the creatures have the same texture fill? It is like all creatures whether reptile, mammal or bird have the same kind of skin? Those saber tooth tigers? When were they reptilian looking? Well, at least we can see that a lot of your issues were budget related. Defiance is probably the highest funded screw-up in all of history. At least you tried.
