Synopsis

Becker is a dedicated, outspoken and talented doctor with a gruff exterior. While he tends to offend those who try to get close to him, he is extremely dedicated to his medical practice in the Bronx, N.Y., where he always goes the extra mile to help those in need. But Dr. John Becker looks at the world around him and sees a society gone mad, full of incongruities and just plain wrong thinking. And he has no qualms about saying anything that comes to mind – anything.

Redwarmin This movie is the proof that the world is becoming a sick and dumb place
Raetsonwe Redundant and unnecessary.
Kaydan Christian A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.
Geraldine The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.
leeland_h This is a wonderful show if you can get past seeing Ted Danson as Sam Malone from Cheers. If you can't get Sam Malone out of your head, you won't be able to fully enjoy this wonderful show. The writing is top notch. Shawnee Smith does a great job. (kind of hard to see her in the "SAW" series). The 9-11 episode (Subway Story) was VERY, VERY good and very well written. Becker is the original House. It ended at the perfect time. Most successful shows go way past their prime. (can you say The Simpsons, which is one of my favorite shows) It is shows like this that bring a sense of nostalgia when you re-watch them. I can't explain it, it just does.
jpickerel For some reason, I didn't see this show until it went into reruns. Now, I have to scramble early in the morning to catch it. Ted Danson does a great job as the crotchety doctor, with a less than desirable practice in a less than desirable neighborhood. His crabbiness extends to just about everyone, from his able assistant, Margaret (Hattie Winston) to her not so able helper, Linda (Shawnee Smith), and to his patients. His bedside manner is atrocious (long before House came along). He has no patience with authority or poor service from anyone. Yet, he comes off as lovable. (His battle to stop smoking is extremely funny). This is a tribute to Danson and the writers. The ensemble cast is near perfect. Alex Dessert as the blind newsstand owner, Jake, and Saverio Guerra as Bob, the regular at the diner who has few redeeming qualities, grows on you. Great show, this one kinda sneaks up on you.
john_cassels To be perfectly honest, I never watched Becker when it was aired between 1998 and 2004. However, thanks to the good people at Turner Broadcasting, Becker is on 5 days a week and it is easily one of my favorite shows of all time. Initially, I was a tad apprehensive to watch it given the time slot it occupied - 12:00 to 1:00 pm and the reviews certain friends had given it. However, I was more than pleasantly surprised. Becker was different from any sit-com I had watched before - the humor was dry and by no means hit you in the face like other shows. Beyond being a strong comedy, the show tackled some serious issues and their impact (i.e. 9/11). With regards to the characters in the show, they are to a certain extent - stock characters. You have Becker, the older, bitter middle aged man, convinced that anything and everything is somehow out to get him. Jake, an African-American who carries on a mostly pleasant manor, despite coping with the trials and tribulations of being blind. Bob, the seemingly reprehensible sex-driven pipsqueak, who does nothing but aggravate the rest of the characters. The list of characters goes on, but what strikes me about them, is that despite their blatant flaws, I find myself sympathizing with them consistently. Although none of them are nearly as rounded as perhaps they should be, they all have good intentions at heart. Overall, an excellent show, Becker combines a dry, wit along with a sense of seriousness which produces an incredibly strong show.
tiger_roar60 A lot of people watch the show Becker. They sometimes see only one episode, get a laugh and that's really about it for them. I watch the show every single day I can. It's that funny. People really say it's just about Dr John Becker, but it isn't really. Its about Becker, Reggie, Jake, Bob, Margaret, and Linda.Chris and Hector showed up the last 2 or 3 seasons, and I have seen mostly the episodes without them. But take a look at the show. It's always about what's happening with Becker, yet the show involves the other characters, what's happening with them as well. My favorite character is Bob, I go crazy with laughter when he shows up. The things he says, the way he talks. Even though Becker is good in his own way Bob was always the best. Jake was pretty funny as well, his little comments and the fact it was pretty easy to make a quick joke about him was too funny. Same kind of thing with Bob, the other characters didn't really like him, except for Linda. He has a quick wit, for example Lindas walking out of the diner, and Bob is walking in. Margaret is right behind Linda. Linda says "Hi Bob." Bob replies quickly. "Salt, Pepper." Bob can make you laugh, the whole show can make you laugh. For anyone who reads this, watch the show a few times and you'll love hat show just as much as I do
