Lovesusti The Worst Film Ever
Micitype Pretty Good
Tymon Sutton The acting is good, and the firecracker script has some excellent ideas.
Scarlet The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.
areatw An Idiot Abroad was the funniest thing to grace British TV for years. No script, no actors, just a normal bloke from Manchester taken completely out of his comfort zone and sent to explore the world against his will. The results are hilarious, with Karl hating every minute of his travels and Ricky and Steve making it increasingly difficult for him as the series progresses. Whilst it may fall under the category of travel documentary, it's Karl's dour personality and relentless whinging that makes it so entertaining. The actual travelling, visiting the Seven Wonders and participating in bucket list activities become merely a sideshow. There aren't many TV shows that make you laugh out loud like An Idiot Abroad. It's comedy gold.
Jamie Bonner Wow, what a great, great refreshing show! The idea to have Karl visit the "wonders" of the world is spectacular. If you are expecting your typical show of a person visiting these wonders, buckle up and be prepared to laugh! Ricky Gervais decides that his good ol' friend Karl is a cynic, uninformed of the beauty that exists in the world and wants to send him all over the world to visit these places, however, in an effort for Karl to experience the culture in a raw way, he makes sure his accommodations are, well, less than posh. Karl is so funny when he finally sees the pyramids or the Great Wall of China or, my favorite, Christ the Redeemer. So, you will not get a PBS travel show, but an honest view of what it was like to travel to these countries and his ultimate opinion of his experiences. Too bad there is no series 2!
ohspike88 very funny and entertaining with plenty of surprises and interesting facts presented from Karl's unique perspective.the first season was very good, but the succeeding seasons were a bit disappointing.the below review pretty much sums up everything:Author: nitedrive73 from Sweden 17 March 2011"Finally,an honest travel guide to accompany you to the most famous sightings in the world.Don't expect adoring sighs and ramblings about the lovely local beverages and cuisine though. And that's exactly what makes this series a stroke of genius.Karl is a reluctant traveler and not easily impressed. He engages in philosophical monologues, and he's almost always spot-on.Even the most experienced globe-trotter laughing at Karls awkward attempts to mount a Mexican rodeo horse or Egyptian camel will probably agree, even if not out loud. Most exotic activities and festivities he will refer to as being "mental". He fills his suitcase with Monster Munch thus hoping to evade the worst expressions of local cuisine.Such as toad and balls. To no avail.Because Gervais and Merchant have, naturellement, booked him at the scruffiest of hotels(if he even gets to a hotel)and arranged for him to eat and experience things he probably never wanted to do ever in his life.To make things worse they send numerous text messages simply to annoy him.At one point Karl ponders the use of modern technology in the western world, how we mostly use it as entertainment. Behind him deaf Egyptian fast-food restaurant employees use their mobiles to make video calls. And Karl produces his own mobile to show for the camera what his friend Ricky G usually send him. I love it.Every annoying thing about traveling that you never dared to mention to your people-of-world friends will be aired here. Go watch!Pronto! "
jennifer-m-kraemer The more I watched, the more I disliked this show, and its creator. Apparently the whole premise of this show is to travel to new places and insult the locals and their customs. Arrogant and ignorant. Not everyone in the world live as well as some, and purposefully traveling to places, mocking and poking fun at those who are going about their daily lives, doing their best, isn't comedy, its shameful. Different people, cultures and life styles are what make life interesting. We should celebrate, and encourage diversity, not scoff at it. "Idiot Abroad" is an appropriate title for this show, he makes the rest of us look bad. I would NOT recommend this show, and certainly will not be watching it anymore.
