Philippa All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.
Roxie The thing I enjoyed most about the film is the fact that it doesn't shy away from being a super-sized-cliche;
agtamby hello. for all of you who think this show is stupid and is a copy it is def. not . and for the people who think this doesn't represent kids these days are really wrong I'm a teenager myself and too me this show except for the whole dragon thing seems almost life like for a cartoon if u listen too them there typical teens and there not showing stereo types cause Trixie and spud and Jake are all different yess but THEY ARE ALL FRIENDS which shows how different races can be best friends! and believe me the 'slang' might be annoying for older people and they might think its over done but come to a high school for a day Thats all you hear ! this show is amazing and i love how it has plots and twists! and for the people are saying Jake is Asian and he doesn't represent Asian culture good enough. HELLO his dad is an American ! hes not Asian . so hes dealing with the fact hes biracial which is hard to grow up biracial . so i think its a VERYYY good interpretation of teenagers today!
blak (blakmanta) > First Season < "American Dragon: Jake Long" (AD:JL) is not the greatest and original show Disney has ever made, but it's still a good show, funny, with cool characters. However, Jake's language (he speaks like a Rapper or something like that) is REALLY annoying (trust me). Anyway, there are other interesting characters in this DisneyShow, for example, Lao Shi, Jake's grandpa and Dragon Master. Lao is the first Chinese Dragon. Fu Dog is Lao Shi's shar-pei. He's a 600 years old dog. Trixie & Spud are Jake's best friends while Rose is Jake's crush. The TvShow has a lot of villains though. The most recurring villains so far are The Huntsman and his Hunt-student (lol), Thorn (who is Rose's Dark-Side). However, the REAL enemy of the show is The Dark Dragon: we don't know much about him, for now... > Second Season < The 2nd Season of "American Dragon" is even better than the 1st one! The Animation may be weird, but the story-line and the characters (and, eventually, the ratings) really improved. Jake speaks like a normal kid. Spud is smarter and Trixie is less annoying. I recently saw "Bring it On" and I think that the fight sequences were awesome. The 2nd Season has a Lot of CGI too. However, some fans still think that the new Season sucks: and that is NOT true. Even the villain are getting better! You really should watch the 2nd Season. Watch it, and you will love it!
Roxanne Boheme I love this show! Disney Channel is all well and good, but it's family shows about a sixteen-year old, terrible animated flicks that I'm embarrassed to watch, and not much else. ADJL rocks! Sure, it's got silly jokes, stereotypes, and too much fake slang, but what show doesn't have at least one of those? I'm just grateful that this show is still there, after the short-lived W.I.T.C.H. that I adored. The plot is about a teenage Asian-American boy in NYC who can turn into a Dragon. He is taught about his powers by wise old grandpa – also a dragon – and Fu-Dog, a 6,000 year-old talking dog who whips up potions and bad puns. Jake battles evil monsters and fights the 'Huntsclan,' a group of secret ninja-type people with cool staffs that spew green energy stuff and hunt magical creatures. The Huntsgirl, the Huntsmaster's assistant, Jake's arch nemesis who wants to slay him and become a full-blown Huntsclan member, is actually Rose, the pretty girl at school who Jake has a crush on. Rose/Huntsgirl has a dragon birthmark/tattoo on her hand whose tail winds around her arm, which I think is really cool. I knew that Rose was the Huntsgirl even before I saw the first episode, as I go to Disney Channel.com and check out the video clips and pictures. How many blonds with blue eyes with similar voices are hanging around? If they weren't the same person, the animators would have given them different hair or something. The fact that Jake didn't realize that is just weird, but it's a TV show. At the end of the first season, Jake and Rose have discovered the other's secret identity, and Rose disappears, much to Jake's sorrow. Second season, which just started, picks up a few months after season 1 ended, and there's new animation. I have mixed feelings about the new animation: change is good, and I like how Jake changes into an Asian dragon instead of a European dragon, like before, but the Oracle twins are now fraternal: Sarah is in a is blond in a pink dress and Carra has black hair and is goth, while before they were both red-heads who looked similar. The huge change, in my book, is the Huntsclan uniforms. Before they were dark-green and black armor things that blended into the shadows, but now they're black and maroon things with a red spider symbol on the masks, which makes them stand out. They look stupid and weird. The staff-weapon things with the green energy stuff are more advanced but not so ancient looking. They're more like tridents with some intricate carvings, not so good. I know, I know, I love the Huntsclan too much, but I'm the kind of person who loves Slytherin. All in all, I love this TV show. Sure it has its faults, but it's as close to perfect as you can get with the idea and Disney. Magic and the real world is a great element, and to have it on Disney is wonderful for a fantasy geek like me. Hey, I play D&D, so ADJL is big. Watch it, and see what you think.
Jo I'm in love with anime and am semi-versed in Asian culture. This show...is...a disgrace. The writers for this series rely far too much on making Jake a good Asian-American boy, as a result, they make him talk slang so he doesn't come off as fobbish, which would not be nearly as insulting.Being based completely on stereotypes, the black girl is just that: black. The white boy is a stoned ditz. The Chinese grandfather sports his garbs all around New York and NO ONE finds that in the least odd? Now seriously, the theme is (if not plagiarized) a good theme. A boy living a double life trying to defend the magical world (because Juniper Lee, Danny Phantom, Yu Yu Hakusho, and Inuyasha are NOTHING like that) but still, my point remains that it does have potential if it weren't so kid-friendly.Probably the worst part is that Jake has no respect for his grandfather. If they wanted to stick to stereo types, they would have Jake be more obedient to his teacher rather than constantly goofing off like an immoral idiot.On one last note, Disney must just...stop. This is just humiliating, I mean, just listen to that theme song!
