Glucedee It's hard to see any effort in the film. There's no comedy to speak of, no real drama and, worst of all.
Fatma Suarez The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful
Geraldine The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.
mayahzdog I love this movie. I would like to see more of Hosoda's work, and while this movie is fine without a sequel, I want to know what it would be like. However, there are some things that keep me from rating it a 10/10. One reason is, while Yuki, Ame, and Sohei are supposedly preteens at the end of the movie, they look and sound like they are too old to be in that age group, they look/sound more like they're in their late teens or young adults. While the CGI is good, it can be distracting at times. Nevertheless, it's still pretty good.
fiatfer123 After watching Wolf Children for the first time (in English), I cried for three days straight. Never before had I seen a film that truly gave me an emotional understanding of the sacrifices that mothers make for their kids. Selfless love doesn't even describe it. Everything about this film, from the lush landscapes of Tohoku to the divine score by Takagi Masakatsu, demonstrates an inimitable humanity that Mamoru Hosoda fosters for his characters. While all of his films since The Girl Who Leapt Through Time have explored themes of family and growing up, Wolf Children is surely his masterpiece.
Mark Casadevall Man, when I first heard of this movie was a review for "worst to best animated movies for 2014" in 2015. It was rated number 1 on the video and I skipped it every time I saw the video besides the first part where Yuki transforms into a wolf and I found it cute but I wasn't interested in it. Two years later in 2017 I went on Gomovies, and I found this movie I remembered the review and I decided to give the film another shot. I saw it then it was boring until Yuki and Ami were born was when I started liking it and 5 minuets later. I was almost crying. When the wkolfman died I just wanted to know what was to happen next, I wanted to know if Hannah and her kids were going to be ok. I after the movie I almost cried.I sat on my bed quietly for a few seconds and said "that was one of the best animated movies I have ever seen in my life." That's how much I liked this movie. I loved the characters especially Hannah and Yuki and how they progressed as people threw-out the film. I also liked how there was a change with the characterisation of Yuki and Ami, half way threw the movie. Thats what I love about this movie, and some I love to notice about this movie.10/10 in my book.
Westcoastal I absolutely loved this film, and will definitely be watching it again and again. Beautifully animated, gorgeous settings, and a really sad but sweet story. Heartbreaking in places, and utterly charming and adorable in others. The stunning visuals are the perfect backdrop to such an emotionally evocative story. There is something so memorable about the way this story is presented, and it's the sort of thing audiences of all ages and backgrounds could enjoy. It has an understated humanity that shines through in every scene. The characters have so much personality and their connections are so believable, it's easy to get very absorbed in their experiences. Highly recommended.
