GurlyIamBeach Instant Favorite.
Dirtylogy It's funny, it's tense, it features two great performances from two actors and the director expertly creates a web of odd tension where you actually don't know what is happening for the majority of the run time.
BelSports This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.
Suman Roberson It's a movie as timely as it is provocative and amazingly, for much of its running time, it is weirdly funny.
Bliss Quest Judging from other reviews, their is definitely something I missed or that pissed me off about this film, and I would have to say it's the latter. The boy was utterly and unnecessarily rude to his mother who tried any and everything to make him happy. All because of an affair she had, which he could not bring himself to forgive. There are obviously some cultural elements in this film I could not bring myself to reconcile i.e suicide. No offense, and I know this is fiction, but It seems Korean and Japanese people are willing to "give up" on life for just about anything!
Chat Chakrya I am a very big fan of Japanese animated films and at one point, I ran out of movies to watch. I came across this movie on the Internet and it caught my interest."Congratulations! You have been chosen. You're a soul who has died after committing a great sin, but is being given another chance to return to the world once again." A soul was told that he had committed a sin and was on his way to be eliminated from the cycle of reincarnation but was given another chance to return to the world. He has to live in the body of Kobayashi Makoto, a 15 years old boy who had attempted suicide, and he has to remember the sin he committed while having to deal with living as the boy in a limited period of 6 months. If he succeeded, he is to be given another chance to be reborn.Despite its name, Colorful was not a very bright, cheerful movie. It is a very realistic film that talks about suicide and the problems that one faces in the real world. The movie was very meaningful and memorable to me and I believe many people would rewatch it if they had the chance. One of the things that make me decide whether or not I like an animated film is the animation style. The backgrounds of the film are rotoscoped, making everything very relaxing to the eyes. The character design is sort of plain comparing to most animated films I have watched but that is the best part. It is still quite easy to distinguish the characters from one another and I believe it was meant to make the film more realistic. The music in Colorful is very beautiful and relaxing. Ko Otani is the music composer for the film and he is a really good composer. The melodies and background music fit perfectly with the scene, making the whole experience of the movie even more awesome.I would like to recommend this movie to everyone especially teenagers because everyone can learn a thing or two from it. Though I would like to warn you. The film does get a little draggy in the middle and that the main character of this movie is flawed. Very flawed.
andrewsro This movie really blew me away. It isn't the typical fantasy or violent anime most of us watch but, it is really powerful. To start i'm going to say that not everybody will rate it a 10/10. The meaning of it will be interpreted in different ways, and depending on how much you can relate to it will impact your rating. The animation is beautiful, with many colors and cool locations to look at. The story can be very dark and unusual but also fun and playful at times. I recommend everyone watch this movie at least once, to get the full meaning out of it. To me I really felt it was trying to teach me to be thankful for what I have, and to value my life even at the worst times.
ebiros2 Based on the novel, by Eto Mori, Colorful is made by the veteran animation director Keiichi Hara. The movie was a project suggested by Sunrise's president Kenji Uchida to director Hara, and took five years in the making, beginning from their first meeting. The movie is absolutely stunning in its production. I give lot of credit to director Hara for all the attention to details he's put in. His experience shows, and his clout in collecting the best talent is also evident in the people he's gathered to make this movie. You really need to see this movie to appreciate the story, and the artistry. Never since the days of original Disney's animation, have an old school animation movie made with such high level of artistry. This is a modern day classic, and worth every minute of your time to see it.
