Marketic It's no definitive masterpiece but it's damn close.
Mathilde the Guild Although I seem to have had higher expectations than I thought, the movie is super entertaining.
Guillelmina The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.
Staci Frederick Blistering performances.
FlashCallahan Justine is the head girl of her plush grammar school, Fairview High. She has won a place at Oxford University, when In-Crowder Alexis asks her out on a date. But Alexis and his friends aren't quite as hip and glam as they seem. Underneath the clique's veneer lurks a pack of vicious tormentors who find it vastly amusing to tease anyone they consider worthless. Their main target Darren Mullett, was bullied him to death by the crowd. The overweight, asthmatic nerd was so relentlessly victimised by their taunts, website intimidation and mobile phone recordings, he committed suicide. But death is not going to stop Darren finding the courage to stand up for himself. With nothing left to lose, he takes revenge on his former classmates. And the In-Crowd soon discover to their horror there is no point reasoning with a very angry entity......The first time I saw this movie, I wasn't very impressed with it. I found it to be immature, pretty inane, and rather boring. But for some reason, I was always compelled to watch it again for some reason. The film had something, and I feel that my shortcomings of dismissing it as just a British slasher wannabe was unfair. On second viewing, yes, it's much more than bullies getting their just desserts, it's also about fitting in, do we actually fit in? And why do we want to fit in? For status? Justine clearly doesn't need status, she's a free bird, able to fit in wherever she wants, and it appears as Darren is following her path with her, realising that she isn't the person he was infatuated with, as the 'In-crowds' amalgamated personalities are slowly melding with hers. It's pretty deep, I know, but so is finding yourself, coping with inadequacies, loss of innocence, and and the fundamental aspect, bullying, and why they do it. It appears here it's done for acceptance, for power, and scarily, for fun. When you look at it from a different angle, the crowd are the monsters here, and Darren is the ghostly form of Karma, giving each bully a metaphorical taste of their own medicine, and the biggest sinner, Justine, beds up getting the blame for everything.Or is she bullied, and having delusional fantasies, just like Darren did, and instead of taking the cowards way out, exacts bloody revenge on all who made her feel worthless. On this level, its a pretty deep movie, but I feel its misunderstood, and dismissed a slasher movie.Either way, its fun.And here's food for thought, why on earth would the bullies have Darren's mobile number, they made his life hell, why would he share his number? A minor flaw....
Tss5078 After watching this film, I'm still not sure if the title, Tormented, refers to the students of the featured High School, or the audience that had to sit through this film. Tormented is one of these films that has a deeper meaning, but it takes it's message to such extremes, that it becomes completely obsolete. Tormented is actually an anti-bullying film, that features an obese teenager, that has committed suicide after years of abuse. Instead of focusing on the ones left behind, the story instead focuses on the popular kids, who continue to "torment" the kid after he's gone, that is until his ghost shows up looking for revenge. The story isn't the worst idea I've ever heard of, but the film was so fake and over the top that it just ruined all it's credibility. Tormented features a fully functional ghost, with emotions, who gruesomely kills people. The special effects that show him as a ghost and the ridiculous amounts of kool-aid blood, were just some of the worst I've ever seen. Magic Mike's Alex Pettyfer stars as the bully and much like the rest of the cast, is far too old to be playing a high school student. Films like this are low budget, and I understand they need a person of name in order to be recognized, but I've always felt that they should cast real teenagers, and give them a chance at breaking into the business, rather than have the roles played by actors that are pushing thirty! Tormented is exactly how you'll feel as this film plays to the lowest common denominator, assuming that only ignorant people are going to watch it. They'll do things like call the victim, Shrek and show goth kids who think it's cool that he killed himself. Tormented is not funny, scary, or anything but a complete waste of time.
Tilak Parmar Prior to watching this film I was looking forward to it, also I was curious because of the title. Tormented is your typical teen horror film, with a twist. It begins with the funeral of a bullied overweight school kid, Darren Mullet who committed suicide and soon turns into a situation that nobody would expect. He comes to life again to torment his tormentors. His only mission was revenge and payback. Interestingly everybody can relate with a person that they know who your typical overweight kid looks like Darren Mullet. He becomes a serial killer with the violent hunger for the taste of revenge. The victims are a bunch of your popular, athletic and preppy teens. They meet their fate in the ways only you imagine in your head. We have all thought of having been dropped from a distance onto metal fencing. The imaginative deaths give the film a comedy look as well as being horror. This is a big plus to the film as it makes your cringe and smile at the same time which is pretty rare. The acting I was impressed with, a quick fact I found was that the suffocation of Kalila was not CGI it was done in real and wasn't edited. This shows the commitment into the film. The negatives are the fact that the film is very stereotypical. Schools in Britain are not like the film. This is coming from a 16 year old who attends an academy school which ranges from the ages of 11-19. The stereotypes bring the film down. All together it is a decent film, but unfortunately not a "must watch".
pimpdust30 I found the film was fairly average. I wouldn't go to the cinema to watch this film but it wasn't that bad. I also wouldn't recommend it to a friend unless they asked. I wouldn't pirate the film but somehow it wasn't that bad. The music was fairly good considering the low budget. The sound effects were slightly worse I thought but still alright considering the low budget. I found the film was dragged out a bit much in places. Also the low budget meant that the special effects that is for comedy reasons so that doesn't matter was even worse due to the low budget, a bit too bad for me. The film wasn't a very big hit at all. Some of the actors were average and some like the Emo kids were not very good actors and they played on their stereotype a little too much that it just bad. Other actors like the 'popular girls' also played their stereotypes too much and it was a bit boring. The film was very predictable in places like where they go to the graveyard, I think everyone that watched the film knew that Darren Mullet was going to be there and that he was going to kill them. My overall opinion of the film is that it's OK to watch in the background but it's not that great I don't really have a really strong opinion on the film in one way or the other.
