foutainoflife This movie Is a must for anyone who likes suspense. These kids wanna play themselves right into an electric chair! They were between the ages of 10-15? WHAT?! Who lets a 10 year old stay out all night? Where were their parents? This was just sad. I would recommend this to a friend.
Bill Jordan I fell asleep several times trying to get through this. Hard to believe a couple of adults couldn't successfully fend off unarmed children. At one point, the adult male is climbing on a ladder, and the child above him starts stomping on his hands, trying to get him to fall off. Stubbornly, the adult continues to try to hang onto the rung where he's being stomped. Here are a couple of ideas - grab the brat's leg and toss him to the ground, or at the very least, move down a rung or two so you aren't being stomped on any longer. And then, after having watched the child stomping her husband, instead of the wife (who was above the child) stomping him off the ladder, she just runs off. STUPID! Anyway, if you want to watch an hour and a half (or whatever it was) of a couple of incompetent adults being chased through the woods, have at it. Or you can make better use of your time by catching up on your sleep (which you'll end up doing anyway, so why waste the electricity).
Nitzan Havoc "Ils" is a Horror-Thriller. It shows the all too familiar cat&mouse chase between the killer/s and the victim/s. It uses fitting sound and cinematography, and has some scenes depicting gut-punching cruelty and despair. And it offers absolutely nothing remotely innovative or original. True story or not, the experience of watching it is disappointing and boring. You might find this review to be harshly judging, but that's the best I could offer you after seventy-some minutes that started with anticipation, continued with waiting, and ended with wishing it would end already. Not because the scenes were too graphic, or too psychologically hard to watch, but simply because the film was boring. I don't think there's any worst adjective to use when describing a Horror film, and I don't think there's any adjective more suitable to use to describe "Ils".As for the ending - well, it might have been shocking enough (considering it was based on real events) ten years ago, but no current Horror fan would find anything they haven't seen before, therefore greatly reducing the shock effect and robbing the film of the one aspect that might have been worthwhile.Objectively speaking, if "Ils" happened to be the first film you watched of this specific sub-genre, you could possible enjoy it and appreciate the empty and almost non existing plot and the all too familiar scenes. Otherwise - you could possible find yourself in my position, happy that the film was finally over and hoping that your next choice of Horror film would be better.
Der_Schnibbler A French couple living in Romania have their home invaded by a small gang at night. This film is similar to movies like THE STRANGERS, FUNNY GAMES, and EDEN LAKE. They all have one thing in common and that is they lack a story arch. The entire plot is one steep drop, going from bad to worse. What is the point of this? I'm not sensitive about these things in any sense. I loved the HOSTEL movies, I love slashers. But films like THEY and the rest seem to exist for no other reason than to torture and disappoint the viewer. That, to me, is not entertainment. They're tense, to be sure, but have ZERO payoff.Unlike, say, EDEN LAKE, THEY at least ended relatively quickly, that's about the only good thing I can say.
