Evengyny Thanks for the memories!
AniInterview Sorry, this movie sucks
Neive Bellamy Excellent and certainly provocative... If nothing else, the film is a real conversation starter.
Fleur Actress is magnificent and exudes a hypnotic screen presence in this affecting drama.
rooprect I tried. Oh Lordy I tried for 2 hours, but figuring the last 50 minutes would be better spent staring at my cat, I gave up.I usually have good things to say about even the worst movies. "Mars Needs Women"? Acting was actually pretty good. "Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus"? The plane scene made my day.But ""The Poseidon Adventure"" (I put in double quotes so not to associate it with any other works of a similar name) was so bad it was good... but then it rolled over into bad again. Beginning with a comic bookish raid on a terror cell (note how they blow the flimsy aluminum garage door open and it leaves a perfectly circular hole whilst leaving the rest of the door standing completely intact lol), the filmmakers immediately establish an irrelevant sideplot about the Department of Homeland Security and a bunch of other miscellaneous Tough American Guy outfits chasing terrorists. This wouldn't have been so annoying if they hadn't wasted so much time on gratuitous military base scenes and random 1-scene actors running around like the beginning of the tv show Hogan's Heroes. I'm not exaggerating; almost half the movie isn't on the ship, it's about SEAL teams gearing up, military types barking orders, cheesy graphics of GPS satellites circling overhead (real suspenseful there) and soldiers playing poker. You get the feeling early on that this movie, made in 2005, was just capitalizing on the post 9/11 go-team-USA vibe. It crosses over into propaganda territory with several lines about how Homeland Security doesn't have the funding it needs, as well as a laughable plug for racial profiling (A murder is committed on the ship, and within 5 minutes the Homeland Security guy narrows it down to the 3 culprits by looking at the ship's manifest and checking for people who are from "terrorist-harboring countries". I AM NOT KIDDING! Was Trump watching this trash when he cooked up his many travel ban(s)?Oh wait, there's something about a boat. And passengers trying to escape. But the story is actually more focused on a husband having an affair with the ship's masseuse while his 2 kids run around the ship and discover dead bodies and stuff. And then there's a random French chick who decides to rip off her dress, like completely, so they can use the fabric to cover their mouths as they run through a fire. Who comes UP with this stuff???Oh I gotta go, my cat just blinked. Victory is mine!
Carlos Thomas This is a total waste of film and your time. What a dismal attempt to benefit from a classic disaster film. Top 5 reasons this film is a failure. One - Dylan Clarke video taping everything; Two - no real reason for the ship capsizing; Three - Sylvia Syms poor attempt at acting; Four - Amber Sainsbury another sad attempt at acting; Five - all the whimpering. John Putch should have walked away from this film from day one. Alex Kingston needed something to do after her departure from "ER" but this should not have been it. She has the potential to be one of the great dramatic actors of our day and I hope she will get better roles in the future. Dumbest line - "Remember we talked about plan B, this is it. - Alan Baldwin"
capricorn9 I am a totally big fan of the original film. Nothing could beat the effects or the star power that film had. When I heard there was a TV version coming out, I sort of got worried - then a second one for theatres and I really got worried!! I saw most of the TV one - tuned in a bit late - but had to sit through it to give it a chance. No tidal wave? Where are the famous characters? Terrorists? Then I went to see the movie release only because Sheila Allen (the nurse in the original and the Mayor's wife in Towering Inferno) and Irwin Allen productions were involved. That was a bit mistake. THAT one was a waste of celluloid. A month or so ago in a $6.98 DVD bin at WallMart I found the DVD of the TV version. The selling point for me was on the cover - 40 minutes of unseen footage - it said. The price was right so I risked the purchase. Today I had nothing to do, and came across it and watched it. I can now say that this time I DID enjoy it. If I sat back and looked at it as a film on its own and not a remake of a classic, it was somewhat enjoyable. I think that missing 40 minutes made all the difference. I still think that remakes like these are not worth the time, but this one, on it's own and with the missing footage, did make a decent drama in the disaster mode.
Jamie Evans I had to negotiate, no, beg my family to let me watch this TV-remake over all their favourite TV shows. Now I am regretting that decision.I must say, I have never really hated a film, just disliked it. This has to be one of those on the "hate" list. I don't even know where to start! The characters are so 2-dimensional. You'd may as well watch the paint peel on the hull of the ship than see their often campy, crappy dialogue. It had to be the special effects that did it for me. Based on a real ship, I think, I thought the new look over the 70's original was really good. I liked the fact they had brought it into the 21st century. But when I saw the terrorist plot, I said "uh-oh". The plot was to sink the ship. They didn't just do that, they sunk the whole TV show. How could a small hole in the ship tip the whole thing over? Titanic had a hole in it, yet it never rolled. (Not to mention Titanic had better graphics, and it was made in 1997!). I remember watching the capsize scene in disbelief. It was stupid! Everyone followed the motion of the ship, or should I say walked to the other side of the room, waiting for it to "roll". The actors and extras knew this was going to happen, you saw them practically waiting for the first sign of the ship tipping, then they all ran to the edge, running up the walls as the ship went over. Practically nothing hit anyone. Sure, one woman held onto a table, yippee! I also remember seeing the swimming pool tip. I never saw -any- water come out of it. I was like "huh? Isn't water supposed to be in there?" But enough about the bad stuff. Let's focus on the positives shall we? Oh, there aren't any, my bad!
