Wordiezett So much average
Voxitype Good films always raise compelling questions, whether the format is fiction or documentary fact.
filippaberry84 I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.
Kaelan Mccaffrey Like the great film, it's made with a great deal of visible affection both in front of and behind the camera.
mark.waltz They're off on the road to aggravation in this unfunny, annoying, cloying and loud comedy of untied apron strings. What should be "Funny Grandma" becomes "The Way We Weren't", a rushed script that questions why the allegedly picky Babs would choose to let this script go through without changes, seeming more like the Lifetime TV movie "Smothered" (with Diane Keaton) while aspiring but failing to be the touching and triumphant "Only the Lonely", a much better written version of mothers and son's relationships. With a truly dull, uninterested performance by Seth Rogen, this ends up not only truly bad, but unbelievably boring as well.Streisand must have cringed when she had to refer to Rogen as her "Little Donald Trump". She was an amazing comic actress early in her career, and a few of those films really didn't have great scripts, either. Their plots often were absurd, but none were more unbelievable than this story of mother and son on a business road trip. Rogen's motivation for taking her along? To supposedly reunite her with somebody from her past. Her good intentioned interfering is unfunny, and he reacts unnaturally to all of it. There's no redeeming value in this, making it another missed opportunity for a veteran star intermingling with young actors, where the spark is completely absent.
bbewnylorac This movie, about a nagging mother accompanying her single salesman son across the US, was never going to win any awards. But as a very light comedy, it's not bad. If you were sitting at home sick, or on a plane, and needed undemanding entertainment, this would fit the bill. And of course, if you are a Babs fan, you will love it. Seth Rogen plays, uhh .... Seth Rogen, the under-achieving middle aged son, and he is likable. He is obviously enjoying playing opposite Barbra Streisand, and he lets her have the spotlight. They work well together. Streisand in real life has her own son, and the empathy shows in her performance. It's not a laugh out loud comedy. And thankfully, the jokes and physical comedy are not laid on too thick and it's not too smutty. And there is actually a plausible plot, although it's hardly demanding. Seth has a secret plan to meet Barbra's first love in San Francisco, on the way taking her along as he tries to pitch his cleaning product to various companies. Mother and son work out their Issues at a variety of venues -- a casino, a bar, a strip joint and in the car. It all reads like therapy for the screenwriters, and the movie is a light option at the cinema for adults to take their elderly parents to. But I have a good radar for baloney, and this movie didn't make me walk out or throw something at the screen. Its heart is in the right place, and I did watch to the end, which was nicely done.
Aly_Bird Actually at the beginning maybe the first 30-45 minutes you'll find it a bit normal however with a slight sense of humour, then after that the real deal began when he yelled at her "Are you blind? Are you so idiotic?" then she left the room of the motel and headed to the bar.The Scene of Andy "Her X-boyfriend's son" and his sister wasn't that touching and I believe it's done by the author on purpose! For the most important issues between the lines is the relationship between the mother and the son.The final scene "The airport goodbye" actually that's the most touching part of the whole story.I felt that all of us "sons & daughters" are so mean to our moms for all the way long they thinking about us and we don't give a damn!
lisafordeay The Guilt Trip tells the tale of this guy(played by Seth Rogen) who brings his mother(played by Barbara Streisand) on a road trip where Rogen has to try and sell his product that is a natural cleaning product that is made of coconut and some other natural chemicals,as well as tracking down Streisand's former lover in San Francisco. The story has been done before as we are so used to seeing people going off on a wild goose chase and on a road trip where you have one charcther annoying and the other impatient. The humor is good enough as its from the man that gave us Tangled and Bolt along with Crazy Stupid Love, while the director gave us Step Up,27 Dresses and is soon to be taking over from Kevin Lima to do a sequel for Enchanted.Keep an eye out for the actress that plays Sarah Walker in Chuck and Tom Hanks' son Colin in this average road trip movie.
