Reviews

ShangLuda Admirable film.
Philippa All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.
Ginger Very good movie overall, highly recommended. Most of the negative reviews don't have any merit and are all pollitically based. Give this movie a chance at least, and it might give you a different perspective.
Celia A great movie, one of the best of this year. There was a bit of confusion at one point in the plot, but nothing serious.
daleonardjacksonoh I just watched this movie on DVD. Admittedly, I was about to turn it off before the film actually began due to the sheer volume of disk spam. That is, there were so many previews that my patience had grown quite thin even fast forwarding through them. Then there was the plug for Ultra Violet, the studio plugging themselves, and so on. THEN, after the anti-pirating warning which, of course, doesn't allow fast forwarding. Ah, movie time..My expectations were already quite low, although this was based on the previews shown in the half hour (or so it seemed) before getting to the feature. They were all so bad that one was left with little hope for the main attraction. My low expectations were spot on.I could go on at length about what is bad in this movie, but it would be too hard to resist simply saying "everything". Instead, I will touch on the good points. (1) The lighting was, overall, pretty good and (2) the image was quite clear and sharp; Good camera work. I gave it one star for each, thus 2 out of 10.Nothing in the film seemed believable. From beginning to end, this movie is a waste. The worst part? That time is lost forever, and it could have been better spent doing something more entertaining - like cutting my toenails.
philneil Brief synopsis: Draco Malfoy, Bucky Barnes along with two others, whose names don't really matter, tinker with some daft technical gadgets that amplify brain waves thus bringing forth some sort of entity that is so desperate to shop at Costco Cash & Carry that it will stop at nothing until it gets what it wants. Bucky B washes his hands of the whole sordid affair whilst Draco tries to figure out a way of containing the entity. (Who you gonna call...?) Meanwhile, Bucky moves in to a newly built home in the desert with his girlfriend Alice Mullen where strange things start to occur...OK, so my synopsis sounds ridiculous, right? Well that is basically how mind-numbingly silly this movie is!The movie has a running time of a mere 82 minutes, but BOY did it seem like longer! It is so dull! Scary mould, spooky open doors, defective light bulbs, shrink-wrap bed sheets... all very exciting stuff indeed!Do yourself a favour and give this one a miss.
David Arnold In his college days, Ben, along with his friend Patrick and two other colleagues, took part in a parapsychology experiment called The Charles Experiment where participating members all stared at a figurine/picture/drawing of a deceased man, Charles Reamer, to see if they could make contact. The experiment didn't go so well, however, and a member of the group is killed. A good deal of time passes and Ben is now living with his girlfriend Kelly, but when strange incidents start happening, Ben gets in touch with Patrick, who in turn has been trying to contact Ben warning him that he is in danger. Patrick explains that a malevolent spirit had been released and the young couple, along with Patrick, now have to try and find a way to banish the spirit before it's too late. The Apparition is a movie where if you've seen the trailers then you've pretty much seen the entire film because not much else happens outwith what the trailers show. There's no real character development nor any sort of decent story depth and it just feels rushed. In saying that, however, it would be more painful if it were any longer than the 75+ minutes it already is.To be honest, the film did start off quite well and the story itself isn't all that bad...it's just a pity it's very poorly executed. There's no build up for anything as things start going to pot pretty much from the off and it's basically "incident...pause...repeat" all the way through. I've seen good/excellent films that dive right in, BUT the story still allows for depth. You don't get that here. You don't feel any real sympathy for any of the characters either...especially Kelly who is just a royal pain in the backside pretty much all the way through. The reason I gave this film a 3 rating instead of lower was purely due to some of the effects, a couple of somewhat decent creepy moments, and some nice atmosphere. So needless to say this film is not really worth watching, but you never know....you may like it.
bowmanblue It's been about two hours since I watched 'The Apparition' and I'm severely struggling to remember what it was about. Ghosts, I seen to remember. There are ghosts. They haunt a young couple. Spooky stuff happens. Only it doesn't - not really. There isn't enough spooky stuff here to fill a trailer for a children's Halloween fair, let alone an hour and twenty minutes of a full length feature film.Apparently, if you find out about this history of the film, you'll learn that it was made and then sat on the studio's shelf for a couple of years before it was released. That says it all really - even the studio seemed to know it was a bit of a turkey and didn't know when the best time to try and make their money back was.Ashley Greene of Twilight fame does her best in the lead, but the script is just too tired and weak to offer anything you haven't seen before. If you've ever seen a horror film made post the U.S. version of 'The Ring,' then you have effectively seen this film - only better. In fact, if you have ever seen a horror film then you should just watch it again, rather than waste your time with this one. It's not awful (despite the clichéd dialogue from the equally-clichéd British nerd), but it's just simply nothing new enough to be memorable and worth any horror fan's time.http://thewrongtreemoviereviews.blogspot.co.uk/
