SoTrumpBelieve Must See Movie...
Listonixio Fresh and Exciting
Baseshment I like movies that are aware of what they are selling... without [any] greater aspirations than to make people laugh and that's it.
Guillelmina The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.
Michael Ledo This is another hand held camera, so it must be real film. Two sisters are flying on New Year's eve from NY to LA. The younger sister Trish (Abigail Schrader) is filming everything which allows some minor character introduction. It was so authentic, it was boring. It just so happens there is a professional journalist on board with a powerful light so he can shoot video at night. His ability to hold the camera still leaves much to be desired.Once the plane crashes (description of film) one passenger Charley (Brendan Patrick Connor) provides for the internal conflict. There is a woman marshal on board (Everette Wallin) so there is someone with a gun. Fear and terror are generated by shaking the camera real fast and having everyone scream and shout at the same time. This worked better than the occasional glimpse of the rubber headed dinosaur looking predator. They crash in the land of "it is always dark" and they keep filming with a light that would attract predators. Everyone has various amounts of bright red blood on them. This movie reminded me of "Chernobyl Diaries" in its basic formula. What you thought about "Chernobyl Diaries" will determine if you like this one. I didn't like the "Chernobyl Diaries."PARENTAL GUIDE: F-bombs, no sex, no nudity.
MrGKB ...in the inherent weakness of the "found footage" genre, "Area 407" further hobbles its cinematic foot by apparently ad-libbing all the dialog (bad idea with such a bare-bones story) and shooting the entire mess in five days (Ed Wood and Roger Corman would, I suppose, be very proud). The results are, to be kind, slipshod. Whiny teenager and older sister flying home to L.A., plane crashes (morphing into an obviously different aircraft, but never mind that), then something begins attacking the survivors (and it's pretty obvious, pretty early, that it's some sort of raptor). Eventually everyone dies, the end. Way too much repetitive screaming, whining, walking, and damn little in the way of interesting characters, dialog (improv is NOT film-friendly), or camera-work. Found-footage films occasionally work; "Area 407" isn't one of them. Back to the drawing board, kids. Avoid unless you have ninety minutes to kill and are fresh out of drying paint. This baby might have been amusing as a half-hour "Tales from the Darkside," but otherwise has absolutely nothing to offer.
galahad58-1 There are very few of these found footage films that are any good. I think the last good one that I have seen is Quarantine and I have watched about 10-12 afterwards and all of them have been garbage. This film would have been better had it been made in a different media rather than the hand-held found footage method. The acting is terrible, but when you are renting a low budget movie you don't expect super acting at all. I also don't expect super special effects or a great script. Sometimes a movie like this can come along and surprise you and be entertaining. This movie isn't one of those. The camera in the face method just gets old really fast and it takes away from any positive that this movie could have had.
TarantulasPrime And no, not like the Three Stooges joke - Girl: "You'll like me after we get acquainted. I grow on people." Curly: "So do warts!" The announcement at the beginning that this was a found footage video made me consider turning it off, but I'm glad I watched the whole thing. Unlike some of the others who liked it, I thought that the flight portion was the slowest part. It was after the crash that the actors really started to shine. The first clue that this wasn't the standard disaster movie was the missing Annoying Hysterical Girl Who Keeps Asking Everyone To Explain What's Happening. She's usually the first to die, and with good reason. There was no Evil Angry Guy Who Steals And Hoards Resources, and no Annoying Blonde Bombshell Afraid To Break A Fingernail.Melanie Lyons did a great job as Laura the Air Marshal (and she is Australian, so there was no discrepancy with her accent). But really, all the actors worked hard in their roles, and the overall effect was impressive. Even if the camera wobbled a lot (and so did the plot), in the end it seemed more realistic than a movie that was too heavily scripted. In the end it was reminiscent of one of the original Twilight Zone episodes in black and white, where there were no special effects and maybe not even that much set dressing, just good solid acting and a wicked twist at the end.Was it my imagination, or did I see Green Beanie Guy pull kind of a pervert move while the passengers were boarding the plane?
