Matrixston Wow! Such a good movie.
GarnettTeenage The film was still a fun one that will make you laugh and have you leaving the theater feeling like you just stole something valuable and got away with it.
Gutsycurene Fanciful, disturbing, and wildly original, it announces the arrival of a fresh, bold voice in American cinema.
Lela The tone of this movie is interesting -- the stakes are both dramatic and high, but it's balanced with a lot of fun, tongue and cheek dialogue.
suite92 Zachary arrives at a bar because Nikki asked to meet her there. Miranda joins him at 8:00 pm. They talk, mostly about Nikki. Marvin shows up at 8:30, looking for Zachary and Miranda. The stories about Nikki continue. All three of them had received one sort of wonderful thing or another from Nikki, and all of them had been lied to in different ways.Miranda says that Nikki called her from an insane asylum, where Nikki had been found innocent by reason of insanity of murdering a stalker. They wonder whether any of this was true. Miranda says yes, she had googled Nikki's case, and found plenty of authentic public records about her legal situation. They discuss Nikki's stalker, Mark, and his public records.Nikki shows up at 9:00, knowing that the three of them have been talking about her the whole time. She tells them Bert will show up next. Bert is her lawyer, lover, and fiancé. The discussions continue, especially about Nikki's arrest for murdering Mark. Mark was her lover after she left Marvin. They were heroin junkies together. Insanity entered in somewhere; she killed Marvin, and did not know it.Bert says that he stays with Nikki because he is certain she has been cured of her mental condition. She now sees that her previous homicidal thoughts toward Marvin and the others were parts of her insanity and have to be let go.The writing here is just brilliant. Nikki uses Marvin, Miranda, and Zachary to help pressure Bert in to accepting a wedding date roughly a year in the future. Also, she wanted Zachary to meet Miranda. This is only the beginning of the film. These smart people who know Nikki have a lot more to do before this encounter is over. Nikki is mightily challenged by Bert, a man who is a 'better liar than I am.' Bert on the other hand, things of Nikki as 'walking Viagra.'The peeling away of layers of story together with re-interpretations of previous statements continues. How does this end? ------Scores-------Cinematography: 10/10 Some of the best low-light photography I've ever seen. Very atmospheric.Sound: 10/10 No problems.Acting: 10/10 Best performance I've ever seen from Michelle Trachtenberg and from Seth Green. Katee Sackhoff, Harold Perrineau, and William Baldwin were great.Screenplay: 10/10 One of the best, tightest scripts I've seen in a long time.
marthanewsome This movie is not a comedy. I agree with the thriller and drama classification. I didn't consider this a bad movie. I found the actors did a fine job of it, but the predictable plot it let down greatly. I also found this movie classified as science fiction in some other places. I was disappointed with their attempts of twists of the plot and found it bizarre how the characters interacted with each other. They seemed to almost become best friends only after knowing each other for minutes. This movie is neither science fiction nor is it a comedy. If your looking for a calm, predictable thriller to watch, this is the movie for you.
miles670 The other guy that reviewed this film as a disappointment is way off the mark in my opinion. The first scene didn't bode well it felt like the plot was going to be predictable so at that point I didn't expect to enjoy it. Luckily it's the only film I had so I watched anyway and despite that first scene the rest of the film was written perfectly and I can see how it drew such an interesting cast.I like mind games especially when they're executed with real intelligence along the lines of what some of the really good Japanese animators can pull off. The lead character in this certainly managed to provide that and again I have to differ with the other reviewer in that throughout the movie I thought she was getting sexier and sexier, I do love the crazies though. The cast played the parts very well and I was kept guessing until the very end but what impressed me most about this film is that I was left extremely satisfied with the outcome.I think it's a shame this movie has such low votes as I'm not an easy person to please film wise in fact I've avoided linking my google account to IMDb for over a year because I'm paranoid but I had to say something when I saw the bad rap this was getting.Tl;dr If you like intelligent mind f***ing movies/books/animation you'll definitely recommend this to a friend despite the slow start.
Arnror_II Sexy is subjective, so I'll leave it up to you, although I have never found her anyway near sexy. So with good written dialog, I was waiting for an evil genius something..What a waste! Is this what passes for a film these days, was this really necessary to bring out to the masses. I'm sensing some friends doing a favor for another here, or just that Seth wanted to meet Trachtenberg. Who can blame him.So the dialog, camera, directing, and everything tec, was impeccable. Story, casting sucked big time. If you're gonna have genius in the title, ask a genius, or even just a smart person to help you write next time.
