Stoutor It's not great by any means, but it's a pretty good movie that didn't leave me filled with regret for investing time in it.

Mark Turner When video stores were booming the shelves were filled with movies that no one had ever heard of. The demand was so high for product that a direct to video business boomed, offering some movies that were actually quite good but low budget. It was from these movies that future stars were born. The video stores may be long gone but that hasn't stopped studios from making movies that now head direct to DVD. This week one of the better ones arrives.SCORCHED EARTH takes place in the future. Climate change issues have devastated the planet. The air is difficult to breath, water is scarce, flaming storms pop up and locations where you can live enough to survive are few and far between. Machines have been outlawed. There is no central government. And to breath means you have to find the funds to pay for a filter that uses silver.Towns have crept up and look like the old western towns of yore. And with those towns come lawmen and bounty hunters. The best of these bounty hunters is Gage (Gina Carano). Trained by mentor Doc (John Hannah) before a leg injury sidelined him to his new profession, she is the best tracker there is. If someone has broken the law, Gage is the one to send after them.After taking out her latest target, a woman named Chavo, Gage learns about a large bounty on the head of a man named Thomas Jackson (Ryan Robbins). Jackson and his men are attacking and kidnapping people across the land and returning with them to the town he now controls. Masquerading as Chavo, Gage infiltrates the town and makes her presence known. She claims to be looking for work but instead learns what Jackson is up to.Before she can take him in the sheriff of the town Doc lives in, a semi-corrupt lawman determined to get the bounty of Jackson himself, leads an attack on Jackson's town. The end result is not what he expected. With no law nearby Gage is on her own now.It turns out that Jackson has discovered that the old silver mine actually still has plenty of silver in it. The people he kidnaps are slave labor he's using to mine that silver. Now Gage must not only take Jackson in but try and save these people at the same time. The odds of her being able to do this single handed are slim to none.Let me say up front that the movie isn't the most mainstream film you will find to rent this week. But it does offer a decent story, good special effects and enough action to keep fans watching. The story basically takes one of the old classic western tales from long ago and transforms it into a science fiction tale. Toss in the fabled bounty hunter and you could drop John Wayne in here anywhere.Carano has made a few movies since retiring from mixed martial arts competition. Her athletic skills, beauty and ability to say her lines clearly have proven to make her the best women's action star since Cynthia Rothrock. With roles in FAST & FURIOUS 6, FAST & FURIOUS: SHOWDOWN, DEADPOOL and the lead role in HAYWIRE, she has demonstrated she can carry a lead role. In this film her performance is a bit lacking which would make on wonder if it isn't a case of a director that was unsure of how to use her that was the problem having seen how well she did prior.On the whole the movie does offer a solid bit of entertainment that makes it a movie worth renting if not buying. The western story combined with a post-apocalyptic world works well and provides a nice backdrop for the movie. Carano fans will want to add this to their collection just to make sure they carry on owning all of her films. It's nice to see a woman in a role typically played by a man and capable of doing it right. Let's hope that she continues pursuing a career as an actress, getting better roles as she goes forward.

magicvault-44740 There are of course lots of post-apocalyptic movies out there and the question is if we needed another one. Well we didn't but to rate this movie low because of that reason is not fair imho. I like ms. Carano although she's not an actress by nature, you cannot say she does not try her best. There are a lot of movies and series which are a lot worse, Dc's Legends for example that is rated higher than this movie and in which the acting is abominable. So, is this movie worth watching? On a cold and rainy day it is. And for ms. Carano: you're worth a lot more movies higher on the ladder, Haywire-like.

nikola17 WOW i understand this is a B-CLASS movie but it doesn't mean it's really bad bad movie and yes it's not Oscar nominations best picture award movie. Gina Carano i am such a FAN of her one of my favorite females of all time specially in MMA Strikeforce Women's Lightweight Championship bout. really great movie, it's not a really bad movie. movie gets Negative Reviews is because movie is not bigger budget it's low budget nothing else well you only live once in your life always watch everything what you like. it has a lot great action scenes not much fight scenes with Gina Carano just small fight scenes with her but it's more of action of shooting and explosions but hey at least she does something in this movie. she is really in it she lead, Gina Carano is always perfect for lead role movies but she needs a better Script, and bigger budget lead role movies like this like Haywire for explame i always wanted to see her in bigger lead role movies not cameo like in Fast 6, Deadpool. She Needs Bigger Role Bigger Budget for any of her lead role movies she really does. she is true action female stars because nowadays there's not much female action actress like Actress who knows how to do fight scenes of their own not trained with anyone else like Amy Johnston Lady blood fight she does everything of her own fights and stunts. i really really wanted female fighter experienced fighter doing their roles of their own rather then getting random female make her badass then train her Martial Arts, i rather see real female does martial arts and stunts of her own. but Gina Doesn't do stunts does Martial Arts MMA witch is still great to her in fight scenes in movies. this movie is really good not slowest movie that will slow you down. movie does have GREAT elements . It sits squarely and firmly in that awkward place, where they have improved the drama WELL , this a serious film. The Story is about Whole Humanity was killed buy national disaster, world turned Upside Down. A bounty hunter named Atticus Cage (Gina Carano) is a Bounty Hunter I Thought Gina Carano role was really good i loved her role in this movie i thought she did great strong female character. comes to town tracks down criminals in a post-apocalyptic Earth. bad guys still driving Mad Max enemy wasteland cars witch looked like BADASS looking cars, you have another characters in this is Doc (John Hannah) from Mummy Franchise was not really in it for all movie, his their and their nothing much. Thomas Jackson (Ryan Robbins) Apollo 18, Spectral, Sanctuary. was a main villain in this movie witch i thought he was Ok Villain he wasn't great his nothing as villain just bad person, Cage Killed Woman and she dressed like another woman Chavo so she can go in town because not many people know her face, she has to be a undercover pretend to be someone else. in the future where everyone wears a silver powder for breathing masks and water tablets are the commodities needed to sustain life. John Hannah plays a former hunter now a doctor due to injury. They have good chemistry and are even a bit funny. The action is great as Gina kicks ass everywhere she goes. Her sister was taken when Gage was younger and has nightmares about the incident so that when she goes after the guy who is the largest bounty, she finds out that he is the one who took her sister. The acting is good, all are believable and give good performances. great performance in A B-CLASS Fun Action Packed in Movie I found this one and was not disappointed. I really wished this was bigger budget and i would have to say this is a lot better then After Earth (2013) piece of crap movie. I felt it was unfair a lot sometimes because Gina may be an ex MMA fighter but she's developed into a pretty good actress alright she is not Oscars Nominee so come down people she is very talent actress and just because Oscar GOLD nominee doesn't mean you have to love it. Gina Carano really does bring great Development in acting in this movie she needs a better budget, a MUCH Better Script, bigger budget lead role movies for Gina Carano. I Mean Great Roles for Gina Carano Rather then see her in cameo her lead role or support roles are great to watch like Haywire, In The Blood, Bus 657 AKA Heist, Extraction, AND this movie as well for Fans I Am a Hardcore fan of GINA CARANO 10 out 10 it doesn't need a low rating it really deserves a lot higher.

Michael Ledo After an acceleration in climate change, the earth becomes desolate as clean air and water are scarce. Silver lined dust masks are worn to filter the air (not the best science) and water purification pills are the new currency. The action takes place out west in "New Montana." People who burn fossil fuels are the bad guys and have a bounty on them. Fast and Furious Gage (Gina Carano) is a bounty hunter who eventually goes after Jackson (Ryan Robbins) who runs the town "Defiant". This is a western style apocalypse type of film complete with cowboy hats and bad dialogue. Not the best film in the genre, but watchable. Guide: F-word. No sex or nudity
