Smartorhypo Highly Overrated But Still Good
CrawlerChunky In truth, there is barely enough story here to make a film.
Lollivan It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.
Kaelan Mccaffrey Like the great film, it's made with a great deal of visible affection both in front of and behind the camera.
blogmonstermike With an intriguing story line, and a great cast with Lucy Liu, Michael Chiklis, Marilyn Manson, Julio Mechoso, Carla Gugino and Robert Forster , I have no idea how this movie flew under the radar. Lucy Liu was beautiful and very compelling in this emotional roller coaster.A well known reporter, Lui, is working on a story that leads her to a grizzly discovery. What she found was unexpected, to say the least, and changed her life forever. She stumbled upon a secret and vicious colony of vampires. Little did she know, they were waiting for her. Little did they know, she was the wrong girl to mess with! This was my favorite roll of Lui's, and she drew you into her character's life and made you feel and root for her. Michael Chiklis is good in everything he appears in and the supporting cast was solid as well. The writing and directing should have been a little tighter and cleaner. There are some scenes that seem to be rushed, and are a little sloppy.Strap in and enjoy this modern day thriller that tugs and the heart strings!
ctomvelu1 It seems like half the actresses in Hollywood (including the usually sensible Charlize Theron) have ended up doing movies like this, where they are superhuman in some unusual way and have to tackle bizarre forces. Sadly, I haven't seen a really good one yet -- and yes, that includes the sappy TOMB RAIDER and even the halfway passable UNDERWORLD and RESIDENT EVIL. Liu, who obviously did this turkey strictly for the paycheck, plays a reporter who investigates a friend's murder. She ends up in the claws of vampires, who turn her into one of their kind. She then goes on the hunt for those who turned her. I could watch Liu read a phone book, but I hate to see her wasted in tripe like this. If you must see this type of movie, I suggest avoiding all the ones that have starred females. Instead, stick with the first BLADE. That one is truly kick-ass.
Cedric_Catsuits I was very pleasantly surprised, having found this DVD in the bargain basement section. I thought the combination of Lucy Liu and vampires couldn't be all bad, and it certainly isn't.At times this borders on soft porn, and there is an awful lot of blood on show. However if you're a fan of vamp movies and bored with the explosion of generic 'let's all jump on the bandwagon' drivel that followed the success of Buffy TVS (the best moving picture show ever made, bar none, by the way) then this might be the movie for you. This movie starts with Harper's Island starlet Cameron Richardson getting most of her kit off and never lets up with the nudity and violence. There is no hint of cynicism however, and I found this to be a worthy and artistic film - just not for the uptight or squeamish. If you are a vamp lover and like your shocks to be artistic and intelligent, you will enjoy this movie.
Roland E. Zwick After she's murdered and partially devoured by members of a cannibalistic death cult, investigative reporter Sadie Blake (Lucy Liu) returns to earth as a flesh-consuming, bow-and-arrow-wielding member of the undead bent on exacting revenge on those who killed her.If you can swallow this premise, you might just possibly enjoy this ludicrous, frequently laughable, two-hour-long foray into sadism, cannibalism, vampirism, necrophilia and supremely bad acting. Sadie is at least a ghoul with a bit of a conscience - she feels really really bad when she has to eat someone - so we'll give her points for that, but the movie dedicated to telling her story rates a big fat zero on every other conceivable count.
