Kattiera Nana I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.
ThiefHott Too much of everything
WasAnnon Slow pace in the most part of the movie.
Kien Navarro Exactly the movie you think it is, but not the movie you want it to be.
Nigel P Otherwise known as 'The Mermaid Chronicles 1: She Creature', this enjoyable TV movie has credited, as executive producer, the mighty Samuel Z. Arkoff, who has enjoyed a similar role on a huge volume of films with sci-fi/horror connotations. Sadly, he was to die shortly after completion of this. The rich, plummy voiced Aubrey Morris, whose career is made with playing eccentrics, played Mr. Woolrich who has imprisoned in his dark and gloomy castle, a mermaid (Rya Kihlstedt) in a water-tight cage. Showman Angus (Rufus Sewell) sees the business opportunities available in owning such a creature himself and shortly, she is part of his exhibition. Angus's partner who gets closer to the She-Creature than she might like, Lily is played by Carla Gugino. All four are excellent in their respective roles, and are aided by a terrific supporting cast.SPOILER – the fully manifested creature is pleasingly CGI-free and only occasionally betrays the project's modest budget. There are some well-conveyed gory moments too, but this is in the main a psychological horror which, although talky in parts, is highly enjoyable. The ending may not be totally surprising, but it is pretty satisfying.
ctomvelu1 Surprisingly effective TV movie set in the early 1900s about an Irish carny couple (Gugino and Sewell) who steal an imprisoned mermaid (Kihlstedt) with plans to put her on display in America. But the trip over proves deadly to just about all, as this stunningly beautiful mermaid is not what she appears to be. The acting is topnotch for a TV movie, and the claustrophobic atmosphere aboard ship (it's the Marie Celese, folks!) is scary at times. This is no "Little Mermaid" type fantasy, but a bloody good horror movie with surrealistic overtones. Kihlstedt as the mermaid is incredibly sexy and terrifying at the same time. The doomed ship with its supernatural presence aboard is right out of Bram Stoker's novel Dracula. And anyone who is familiar with the sirens in Greek mythology will know where this is ultimately going. A very intense and nightmarish horror flick whose subtitle, SHE CREATURE, is a nod to a schlocky 1950s monster movie of the same name. For you guys who might be tempted to turn this off, thinking it's a chick flick in disguise, be aware that Kihlstedt is naked throughout, and Gugino, who is no slouch in the sex appeal department, has a sweaty, noisy roll in the hay with Sewell halfway through. Lucky Rufus. For that matter, Kihlstedt and Gugino share their very own intimate moment.
dgci-net I got this made-for-cable "Creature Feature" as a NetFlix rental. I'm off to the stores to look for a copy to buy for the archive.I went into it expecting mediocrity in a TV movie, and got brilliant directing and camera work, a stunning score, beautiful period costuming, and a cast of "never heard of 'em" actors and actresses I fell in love with. Most modern horror movies fail on so many levels. This one wins on them all. First of all it's a good story. It's well presented with the proper mood. It's well acted. The sets and costumes are believable. It's actually SCARY in places, and it progresses to a well thought-out conclusion (although I thought the final creature transformation from the mermaid to...whatever that was...was a little off), and that failure cost this movie a star in my rating....can't give ten, only nine.More than that would be a spoiler, but please, don't deprive yourself. I don't hand "nines" out readily. Go rent or buy She Creature. You'll be glad you did. Not for the kiddies.
NoName1989 I saw this movie on TV a few months ago, and I liked it. With a small budget, Sebastian Gutierrez managed to deliver a more than satisfying film. The acting is pretty good! Certainly Rya Kihlstedt is really haunting as the mermaid! But also Carla Gugino, Rufus Sewell and Reno Wilson do well! The special effects are (for a low budget production) good. The movie is also (to my surprise) quite intelligent and sometimes it's even psychological. The last scene makes me want to see The Mermaid Chronicles, Part 2!
