It was an OK SyFy channel movie to watch at 2am, but as a monster movie it kinda blew chunks. Was it trying to be "Gremlins" or was it just let's make stuff up and put in a giant snake (someone say Anaconda)? I can't recommend it as anything more than a meh.

I am at a loss to understand why The Sci-Fi Channel keeps running these cheap giant snake movies. Oh, what ANACONDA hath wrought! MEGASNAKE has a large reptile roaming the Tennessee countryside (actually Bulgaria), picking off one unfortunate resident after another. Bullets bounce off it, of course. There was just enough gore to keep me reasonably happy, but the snake is badly composited and the generic cast doesn't help one bit. The filmmakers even steal a plot element from JAWS, involving an upcoming county carnival that wiser heads feel needs to be called off but of course the mayor wop't hear of it. Otherwise, the snake would have little to do outside of picking off an occasional individual. Pass on this one.

"Megasnake" is one of the more impressive Sci-Fi Channel creature features.**SPOILERS**Fearful of snakes from a young age, Les Daniels, (Michael Shanks) carries the phobia into adulthood, which is starting to affect his relationship with Erin, (Siri Baruc) his girlfriend. His brother Duff, (John T. Woods) brings home an incredibly poisonous snake kept inside a small jar that soon gets loose and begins growing bigger. Taking out the members of the town one-by-one, while no one notices the disappearances, he deices to try to get his relationship back together. Finally noticing the disappearances around his house, he starts to suspect that a snake could be behind it when animals start turning up dead or missing. Finally convinced that a giant, supernatural snake is behind the attacks, the remaining townspeople band together to fight off the snake before it kills the entire town.The Good News: This one here wasn't all that terrible. One of the better aspects of this one is it's titular snake itself. This is a pretty original snake conception, and that puts the creativity of the film nicely into question. That also accounts for the rarity of the snake itself, as it's mentioned that it's not a normal species and the actions prove it. Doubling in size, toying with prey, and using various methods to kill are just perfect examples. The fact that the traditional method of the lower jaw expanding here looks twice as impressive here as the jaws unhinge to a huge level at times, and with the row of teeth, it gives it a far more impressive look. The blood-stained head, horns atop the nose and gigantic size also help give it a better impression. The fact that this one builds up to the giant monster by going after smaller prey before going after humans is a great move, suggesting it's terror before just throwing it out there because of the creature type itself. That also gives it some more fuel to keep going as the mystery throughout of what's killing the animals and the occasional human disappearance is a little mysterious and gives it a little suspense. Even the human confrontations are pretty good, and are actually staged attacks rather than just appearing out of nowhere and taking a bite out of someone unsuspecting it. The family attack on the lake is one shining example of this, and the forest chase is really great for this kind of film. The film's at its best, though, with it's utterly spectacular assault on the carnival at the end. This is pure action-packed mayhem, as the snake carves out a path of destruction that is just fun to watch, and it manages to take out a larger number than expected for this type of scene. From the jaw-dropping attack on the Tilt-a-Whirl, which by itself is the creepiest one in the film, to the chilling encounter in the haunted house and the general mayhem caused with the bumper cars and Ferris Wheel attacks, this one is simply non-stop and contains the best scenes in the film. That also puts out a large number of deaths as well, which this one does. Many are repeated several times, but there's some rather nasty bites, a multiple decapitation, several are swallowed whole from both ends of the body and it's centerpiece kill, where it constricts a victim against a tree branch that yields a rather gruesome surprise at the end. Nothing too major, but its satisfying in this area, and that's what matters. Overall, this was a really pleasant surprise.The Bad News: This one here really only has minor flaws. The never-ending concept of using horrendous CGI for the snake is still a weakness, as here it doesn't mesh at all with the surroundings. Several times it's apparent that the creature isn't even touching the surface its actions indicate it's doing, and the effect is cheesy. This is at the worst during its big carnival assault, as the snake is on-screen for several seconds before anyone reacts, yet the thing's in plain view of everyone. Little touches like that still pop up and ruin the effectiveness of the creature. The trotting out of several timeless clichés, namely the canceling of the big town event, the disinterested official and the unbelieving co-workers here just come off simply as clichés and nothing more, even if mildly connected to the events at hand. The last problem is the fact that there's way too much family drama going on at the beginning of the film. It takes up way too much time and is then promptly dropped after the snake attacks. These flaws notwithstanding, this is a really nice creature feature.The Final Verdict: With only minor, hardly damaging flaws, this one is one of the better creature features from the Sci-Fi Channel. Recommended highly to those who love they're films, cheesy creature features or killer snake films, while those that aren't that high up on cheesy creature features might look else.Rated R: Graphic Violence, some Language and aftermath animal violence

About the movie: Megasnake is is pretty much what everyone thought it would be, a Scifi original (in other terms, huge hype about it, poor CGI, and a lame plot). But, I was impressed with some of the killing scenes and the fact the acting wasn't horrible. Why I hated it: This movie was suppose to Feedbacks(winner of WWTBASH) movie. Instead, its about a giant snake and some Native American legend. Feedback is in it, but he only has 2 lines AND doesn't get to use any of his super powers. This is the reason why I didn't give this movie a 5/10.Over all, the movie itself isn't bad, just kinda crappy looking and plot that is kinda stupid. It isn't really scary, in fact I laughed through most of it. If its on, give it a look, but if your expecting an awesome movie about Feedback, just change the channel. I give the movie a 3/10.
