Actuakers One of my all time favorites.
Mjeteconer Just perfect...
Fairaher The film makes a home in your brain and the only cure is to see it again.
Ginger Very good movie overall, highly recommended. Most of the negative reviews don't have any merit and are all pollitically based. Give this movie a chance at least, and it might give you a different perspective.
candkane There are many parallels between the story of Pandey and that of Sir William Wallace, the Scottish hero portrayed by Mel Gibson; in fact I can easily imagine this highly professional Indian film making it to a mass western audience (something I couldn't say about many Bollywood films I've seen), though of course the music & dance routines will look very odd to those unfamiliar with the ethos of Bollywood. The script is well written, giving a balanced historical analysis of the politics and economics surrounding the 1857 "Indian Mutiny" (as it's still known by the British). Direction is fine, the action flows evenly over its 2-1/2 hour span. Beautifully photographed and acted, this is a very solid and entertaining film, well worth watching (make sure you see it on a wide screen).
hollyedwards21 I was in India travelling with 2 friends and we were wandering Bangalore and decided to try this film out. I had no idea what to expect.... bu I loved the film, it was warm and very funny, but there were also many tears, Amir Khan is amazing and I fell totally in love with the strength of his character. Rani really is a beauty. It was mainly in Hindi but we got by with a little help from guys who spoke English. Cinema in India is a must do experience! This film address' many issues which are still going on in India-maybe not so much in the Cities but definitely in the rural areas! The Songs and Dancing adds to the beauty of this truly magnificent film!
mmr_08 Film : The Rising - The Legend Of Mangal Pandey Director : Ketan Mehta Producer : Bobby BediThe Intense Wait Of 4 Years Is Finally Over For Aamir Khan Fans As The Rising Is Released . Though Not As Thrilling As LAAGAN , I Must Conclude That It Is A Masterpiece , Though Many People Left The Theatre Disappointed , Expecting It To Be Another Gandhi .Right From The Cinematography , Costumes , Locales , It Is All Top Grade.Aamir Khan As Mangal Pandey Is A Treat To Watch , Be It In The Scene Where He Comes Out Of The Ganga After Having A Bath Or The Scene He Is To Be Hanged . Toby Stephens As CAPT William Gordon Almost Overshadows Aamir Khan . Another Gifted Actor In The Making .
kmukh_73 I was surprised, not only to watch the worst movie ever on the first Revolution of India against the East India Company, but also by the Ketan Mehta and Co. for daring to change the course of history. Well, if this is democracy and right to amend the history, what will the children of tomorrow learn from this movie?Mr. Ketan Mehta should have watched a couple of finest movies on "REVOLUTION". The list should have been THE BATTLE OF ALGIERS, GLORY, or Emir Kusturica's UNDERGROUND.It seems the director and the screenplay writer tried to build on BRAVEHEART and ROBINHOOD: Prince of Thieves, not concentrating on the portraits of the rebellion or revolution but too much on the romance!Every country boasts of their movies for the struggle of Independence, and if this the one we have to boast of, it's really a shame! Where from the character of Rani Mukherjee rise is still an enigma! Are we compelled to bring in romantic songs and dance numbers in a movie which depicts revolution? I doubt the authenticity of the movie script. And it is just that the descendants of Mangal Pandey have files a case against the production of this movie. If they can relate a prostitute with Mangal Pandey, a day will come when we have to see Mahatma Gandhi as a Calvin Klein model, Lala Lajpat Rai as a drunkard and Subhas Bose as Casanova who goes to bar to dance with bar girls!! Who knows what are other reserves!!Isn't this a mockery in the name of independence? Democracy doesn't mean you can do anything else, like changing history. This movie really sucks! Mangal Pandey, thank GOD you are not alive to see it by yourself, at least me and my friends (all Indian) could not! Please, enough is enough, at least Bollywood is good for entertainment, now don't play with the sentiments of Indian Revolution. There are still people alive who fought for the freedom, don't belittle their struggle and pain.Shame on you Mr. Mehta.
