Reviews

Humaira Grant It’s not bad or unwatchable but despite the amplitude of the spectacle, the end result is underwhelming.
Hayden Kane There is, somehow, an interesting story here, as well as some good acting. There are also some good scenes
Ella-May O'Brien Each character in this movie — down to the smallest one — is an individual rather than a type, prone to spontaneous changes of mood and sometimes amusing outbursts of pettiness or ill humor.
Brenda The plot isn't so bad, but the pace of storytelling is too slow which makes people bored. Certain moments are so obvious and unnecessary for the main plot. I would've fast-forwarded those moments if it was an online streaming. The ending looks like implying a sequel, not sure if this movie will get one
znegative Magic Magic is one of the original and darkest films I have seen in a while. To call it a horror movie wouldn't be quite accurate, but boy is it unsettling. The story revolves around Alicia, a young woman who comes to Chile to visit her cousin Sarah. Sarah, her boyfriend and her two friends pick Alicia up, and shortly afterwards an emergency forces Sarah to leave Alicia for a few days with her friends. Alicia obviously feels very uncomfortable in this foreign environment, and Sarah's friends are unfriendly and cruel towards her, albeit harmless enough. Alicia's paranoia starts to escalate, until it becomes clear that she is starting to have a psychotic breakdown. This film really resonated with me, and I imagine anyone who's ever dealt with mental illness or perhaps drug use will be very unnerved by 'Magic Magic'. This movie reminded me of my late teen years when I was smoking a lot of pot and taking psychedelics and the paranoia that plagued me. This film captured that feeling in a gritty and uncompromising manner that had my heart literally pounding. I don't think I've felt this kind of dread from a movie in a long, long time.I read some other reviews likening 'Magic Magic' to a David Lynch film, and there's some truth to that, but a more appropriate comparison would be to that of 'Repulsion', Polanski's black and white horror masterpiece.I can't think of one thing wrong with this movie-it's unfortunate there aren't more gems like this out there. If you haven't seen Magic Magic, you're missing out.
nicola-j-peacock Not normally one for reviews but after sitting through 90 to 120 of movie only to have the credits come unexpectedly I felt compelled to write. It has great promise but when a film just "ends" like a smack in the face with a spade you are left feeling like what the fudge I feel cheated. It seems like the film was building up to some huge crescendo and then fell flat. So the main character is paranoid - or is she; OK great had me drawn in but it went from one minute she was OK running about like a loon to the next she's just dies. Like that. Just....em dies! And that's what spoiled it for me!!! Didn't make any sense and I felt cheated so in my opinion don't wasn't your time!
f-rabit I could resume what i liked watching in one sentence: I liked juno temple boobs and ass. Almost nothing else with logic or sense happens in the movie. This is not a portrait of a girl with mental illness, although you can find some craziness there. What does hypnosis has to do with mental illness? What does psychopathy behavioural (like the killing of the animals)has to do with mental illness? And why she dies at the end? In the movie you see something that i don't know what is...a disease(?) that progresses rapidly. Whatever that is, mental illness takes its slow pace to evolve.Oh! and you don't die! ...just like that! If you like mental illness movies, try "one flew over cuckoo's nest" or "A Beautiful Mind" and leave this aside.
kosmasp I guess with a title like this, you can be excused expecting something different. Maybe even the trailer suggest something else (haven't seen that obviously), but the movie at hand is a very weird one. It seems to go one direction and then strays away and gives us this "What the heck?" kind of movie. There is nudity in here, which I didn't expect, but it shouldn't influence your movie watching experience in a good or bad way. It's just there ... just as the things the characters do. It's also very interesting to see how the characters (humans) are light when it comes to seeing hurt animals and how they react when another human being is hurting. There is a bad behavior sort of theme running through and it's pretty clear what the "message" is supposed to be ...More than interesting experiment, if you let yourself experience it
