TrueHello Fun premise, good actors, bad writing. This film seemed to have potential at the beginning but it quickly devolves into a trite action film. Ultimately it's very boring.
KnotStronger This is a must-see and one of the best documentaries - and films - of this year.
Billy Ollie Through painfully honest and emotional moments, the movie becomes irresistibly relatable
Adam Bachmaier After reading into the mans "story" of which this film is based on,i have reached a conclusion. This film is despicable. I cannot stand films like this that have nothing but contempt for women, and men for that matter. I pray to god in heaven that nobody in their right mind sees this movie as light fluffy entertainment, maybe the devil does but i do not. I understand that we have "exploitative" horror films where people watching only see face value violence and totally disregard artistry, patterns performances, etc. I would rather watch an intelligent Korean horror film that makes me think and feel. Maybe that is just what i will do...
Andrew Pelechaty 'I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell, based on the "fratire" books by Tucker Max is a parody of douchebags: the tall, good-looking, tanned meatheads who assumes every girl wants them and acts without consequence.Tucker is such a person: a self-centered idiot who uses his friends to fulfill his desires. In this case, Tucker (Matt Czury) drags his friends Drew (Jesse Bradford) and Dan (Geoff Stults) to a "special" strip club in Salem, ostensibly to celebrate Dan's bachelor party. When Tucker abandons his friends for his own selfish needs, he is finally forced to evaluate his true nature. While 'Hell' is a fairly conventional take on the books, it's the characterisation which makes it worth watching. Complementing the raging douchebag Tucker is the hilariously morbid and cynical Drew, made so by his girlfriend cheating on him with a Z-grade rapper (until he meets stripper Lara and her young boy Jack) and Dan, who is under the thumb from his fiancée and her pious, religious mother, but uses typical male bravado to compensate.Tucker's antics are no worse than 'How I Met Your Mother's' Barney Stinson: he thinks he's a legend, is extremely selfish, and his only goal in life is to sleep with as many types women as possible. Tucker is not likable at all; even his final "redeeming" confession seems fake and tacked-on for the sake of a happy ending. As a piece of satire, 'Hell' is enjoyable and paints the douchebag in the unflattering colours they deserve.
JacktheRupert-78-566271 I tripped onto this movie at 0100Am on a Sunday morning expecting to turn the TV off and go to bed. They story line and the characters were to good to turn and walk away. I found myself laughing so hard at the character's lines, especially Tucker's. And I never watch movies to get a laugh. EVER!! I guess I liked it so much because it reminded me of my younger years and the guys I hung out with. There is always one in the group that everybody loves and hates all at the same time. The instigator. The one who always talks you into what you know is a really bad idea, but you do it anyway. I actually have a good friend named Tucker who falls into that category. This was just a FUN movie!!! This movie made me want to go back to my twenties and thirties and do it all over again. Ah, the good ole days!!!! LOL!!! I will watch it again. Two thumbs up.
Chrysanthepop Even though in reality Tucker Max may be a pretentious git and 'I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell' is by no means among the best in comedy, I actually enjoyed the film. I haven't read the novel but I liked the title and the actors so I have been looking forward to it. Then the negativity that surrounded it after release lowered my expectations and when I saw it last night I laughed. The movie does try to use shock value (how often does one witness someone with a shitty ass on screen) but that doesn't work in its favour. The dialogues are quite extreme and even offensive to women but I liked how the women react to it. The Drew character mostly because of his transformation from heartbroken women hater to a devoted lover. For me the best scenes were with Drew and I enjoyed watching his love story with Lara unfold. The acting is quite good. Matt Czuchry, Geoff Stults and Jesse Bradford are brilliant. Bradford steals the show with terrific dialogue delivery. This actor deserves some good scripts. Marika Dominiczyk is both sensual and sensational. Kerry Lyn Pratt is very likable.'I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell' may not be a particularly great movie but it's fun once you're passed the misogynistic part of it. It doesn't really stay true to the title though.
