XoWizIama Excellent adaptation.
Voxitype Good films always raise compelling questions, whether the format is fiction or documentary fact.
Matylda Swan It is a whirlwind of delight --- attractive actors, stunning couture, spectacular sets and outrageous parties.
Sarita Rafferty There are moments that feel comical, some horrific, and some downright inspiring but the tonal shifts hardly matter as the end results come to a film that's perfect for this time.
Sandcooler "Grilled" tries desperately to be one of those wacky comedies where one thing keeps leading to another, but it just never seems to gel properly. New characters and plot elements are thrown in without a second thought, the writers churn out scenes without having any idea what the next scene is going to be about. Ray Romano and Kevin James manage to not embarrass themselves completely in this wasteland, but that really just makes it all even sadder. Clearly they could have done something really entertaining with a decent script, but their talents are wasted here. The ending is also really abrupt and a total anti-climax, but by that time I couldn't really complain because well, at least it was over. "Grilled" is a manual of everything you shouldn't do when you try to write a crime comedy, but I can't see another use for it.
Floated2 One may think that a film with Ray Romano and Kevin James (both then known for their comedy shows) would assumed that this film to be a funny film, but it really wasn't that funny to me. There were jokes in the film, and some one-liners which I knew was intended for laughs but none of that worked. Some little comedic things that I read some people found funny; Kevin James tripping over a fence, Kevin James little pen stares, Sofia Vergara revealing herself to Ray Romano, Burt Reynolds short speech before signing the papers, Juliette Lewis drunk persona, along with other dialogues. I understood the jokes and scenario but it wasn't so much the comedy that worked. Although, the film is quite different (somewhat like a dark comedy but not so much- Id described it as a little crime/drama intended with funny comedic parts). Grilled starts off slow, for about the first 40 or so minutes then gets better around 45 mins when Michael Rappaport character comes in. The action/mystery/crime sets in and I think it gets better. It's quite a short film (83 mins) and at times feels like a television episode stretched out, but for the most part I liked it and found it entertaining. Id recommend watching it if you can find it---http://www.1channel. ch/external. php?title=Grilled& url=aHR0cDovL2 dvcmlsbGF2aWQuY29tLzE0YjVuenUxNXJrYg ==&domain=Z29ya WxsYXZpZC5jb20=&loggedin=0 (erase the "spaces") ...Im also not surprised it didn't make it in theatres. I think this film would have gotten hazed by critics and the general audiences. Don't expect too much though, just have an open mind.
Chrysanthepop When I heard that Ray Romano, Kevin James and Sofía Vergara are in a movie I was expecting laugh-out-loud entertainment. Sadly, 'Grilled' is not that. This is by no means the fault of the actors. The fault mainly lies in the script. The plot is very weak and the relationship between between the main characters and the supporting ones are underdeveloped. Romano and James's characters are quite well-written. They work very well off one another (even though sometimes they're given terrible lines). Sophia Vergara oozes heat and she's funny at the same time even though her character is halfbaked. Juliette Lewis is a little over the top at times but otherwise she's hilarious. While the characters are funny and the story lacks focused, 'Grilled' may have worked as a silly comedy if only it was funnier. It tries to be wacky but mostly falls flat. The actors are the ones who bring humour to their characters and because of that 'Grilled' is average at best.
dilbertsuperman The King of Queens and Raymond can't pull it off in this crapfest. This movie is hamstrung by being too PC in its' treatment of every joke and in doing so - removes all the humor as well. There's a zone that comedians shoot for that is the "clean" circuit- the place where you can make the most money, but also the biggest ass of yourself when you participate in completely non humorous projects such as this one. Every idea had potential as a joke, but they all were so sanitized they never got down into something that would make me laugh for real. I kept getting a feeling like a good joke was coming on, and then it would fizzle.PLOT: Two guys trying to sell some contracts for in home meat delivery run afoul of a mob problem. Typically the tagline would include "and hilarity ensues" but no such hilarity to be found here. Just boredom and lack of talent.
