XoWizIama Excellent adaptation.
Dirtylogy It's funny, it's tense, it features two great performances from two actors and the director expertly creates a web of odd tension where you actually don't know what is happening for the majority of the run time.
Aubrey Hackett While it is a pity that the story wasn't told with more visual finesse, this is trivial compared to our real-world problems. It takes a good movie to put that into perspective.
Lela The tone of this movie is interesting -- the stakes are both dramatic and high, but it's balanced with a lot of fun, tongue and cheek dialogue.
Michael Ledo Shae (Danielle Panabaker) is a student who studies male fantasies and how they view women as objects. She is hurt by an older male boyfriend who patches things up with his separated wife for the sake of his three year old daughter. Distraught, Shae is taken under the wing of a somewhat psychotic Lulu or Lu (Nicole LaLiberte) a woman straight out of a Billy Joel song..."She can carelessly cut you and laugh while you're bleeding."On the rebound, she goes out with Lu and gets involved in a situation where "No" doesn't carry any meaning. With the aid of Lulu, they go on a killing spree, after which you wonder where this movie will go. Unlike so many films in this genre, it smartly brings it home. The film brought to mind "Shame" and "Compliance" two recent films sold as being "disturbing and thought provoking" which are nothing more than perv films. This one is the opposite. It is sold as a perv film, but is really more thought provoking as it looks into psyche of sexes and the way they view each other and what women would do if they could get away with it.This film ignores plot continuity points such as body disposal, clean up, or the police investigating the homicides. This is a theme driven film, not plot driven. Most people won't like it. I enjoyed the small clever aspects of this film. The slow motion scene of the smoke leaving the gun, or the young girl riding by with vampire teeth as a way to say, "what roles are we subconsciously teaching our children." The policeman with the straw irritatingly sipping from a cup. Lu speaking at the Tarantino restaurant "explaining" the film theme. At the end there is a small insert of Lulu smoking a cigarette that brought the film home. Bravo Austin Chick for making a feminist slasher film into a subliminal art work. I appreciate what you did.Parental Guide: F-bomb, off screen rape, sexual scenes, nudity (Nicole LaLiberte)
mjsreg If you are expecting a brainless slasher movie then this isn't it.The dynamics between the two main characters are a brilliant example of Folie à deux.It is well written and the acting is superb, but it does take a bit of understanding at a deeper level than a slasher movie. It is more of a psychological tease of your brain, wondering just how the story will turn out.Well worth a watch if you like something interesting where you are sucked into the story and the lives of the characters.
Zebb67 At least the original I Spit On Your Grave knew what it was (exploitation plain and simple). This garbage tries to dress itself in artsy decor, even as it shows a young man being dismembered. But whatever you think you might be getting from this film, you won't get it. As a feminist statement...well, watch Thelma And Louise again. As exploitation, it is nowhere near as extreme as the poster art would have you believe (the one scene I described being the exception). As cathartic revenge, Death Wish this ain't. The fact that it earned a little over $6K at the box office (probably not enough to cover the catering costs during filming) proves there is no audience for this cr*p and as Dana's looks fade, the few roles she gets will quickly fade as well as she is singularly without any acting talent, exhibiting here the same vacant stare throughout the entire movie (the other lead actress is actually pretty good). I should also point out that in addition to being anti-male (well, not quite all of us), the film is also very homophobic.
Tad Pole . . . wants to be a spin on I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE, only with better weapons. Female man-haters turning into reckless thrill-killers has, of course, been done before (I think there was something like this in THELMA & LOUISE). While both versions of I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE involve a female writer minding her own business being given good reason for revenge by a pack of backwoods rapists, GIRLS AGAINST BOYS is more along the lines of an Amazonian myth, in which the ladies have little reason for their slaughter of "Y" chromosome carriers, other than that they're apparently the stronger version of their species and they believe in parthenogenesis (a much more realistic possibility today, compared to the time of the original Amazons). In this movie, coworkers Shae and Lulu are as single-minded as any real-life Ted Bundys, getting their kicks from the wholesale slaughter of anyone who uses the urinals. Maybe this would be a good date movie for some people, but you probably would want to avoid them.
