This is not a movie you should see, but I gave it one and a half stars because of it's star, Courtney Halverson. Halverson is a newcomer, who hasn't done much, but she was terrific and gave a little credibility to an otherwise horrible movie. Freaky Faron was listed as Sci-Fi/Fantasy, but in reality, it's a movie that could have aired on the Disney Channel. The plot is ridiculously stupid and is played out by actors who have hardly done anything before! Halverson was funny and entertaining as the freaky girl, who seems to be psychic and smarter than every one around her. Aside from that, this movie is not worth the reel it was recorded on. I find myself having a hard time explaining to you just how bad this thing was, I mean it was so bad, that I can't even begin to describe the story for you and that in and of itself should tell you to avoid it!

Freaky Faron starts off well, or at least it belies it's obviously low budget with an interesting premise behind it's main character. Unfortunately It ends up feeling as though it was written by one of it's young cast members. If that had been the case, I would have thought it an excellent first effort. Alas, no. I can't hate Freaky Faron. It wasn't good, but I can't hate it. The acting was emotionless for the most part (less a fault of the actors and more a fault of the script and direction), but I don't think the premise should be abandoned. With a budget, cast, and some (a lot) of plot development, I really think it might make a great TV series or at least a better movie.

It starts with bad acting from all the cast, and cliché 'super powers' for the star. Faron actually begins to develop her character, and the plot begins to have a glimmer of getting interesting. But they never develop the 'powers'. In fact, they do not develop a single plot element that they introduce. A few interesting concepts that die almost as soon as they are introduced. The movie peaks at about a 4 (on a ten scale), then fizzles away to a 1. This could have been a 6 or possibly a 7 had there been a real script. Stupid ending. What a waste of film. The actress that played Faron actually did a fair to good job before the filming stopped, but the fact is the filming should have never started. Run away...

Of my friends who saw this movie, the range of acceptance was all over the scale; a true "love/OK/hate" movie. I loved it because it was very well filmed and edited, a film that has potential as a true "film class" staple in colleges worldwide. Others found it slow and boring. Here is a film that all future directors must see, but not all casual movie viewers will enjoy it. It had a classic 1940-1950's style suspense on the lines of Hitchcock classics and "Casablanca" and "The Maltese Falcon", not the modern aphoristic process, no business as usual here!!! It was also awash in young actors, which can deceive some people into thinking it is a child's movie, but it is not, it is suitable and I say designed for the mature film buff. A very good job on a very low budget, a great work.
