fedor8 FG starts off exactly how all movies should begin - but almost never do: with a pair of breasts. Only 37 seconds into the movie we get to see them. And that's all one needs. No long lines of dull dialogue to "introduce the character". Seeing her breasts made me understand her character immediately. I suddenly knew all that I needed to know. No need for long expositions, for the exposing of the boobs was ideal. And try finding a movie that is quicker in delivering female nudity. Most porn films take more time.Any time a horror film ends with the main character alone in a loony-bin cell, looking lost and confused, you know you've just seen a forgettable movie. The grand finale was anything but. It was totally cliché, with no real surprises, no twists. FG would have been a much worse film if it weren't for Leisha Hailey (and her wonderful breasts). She held the film together.Additional congrats to Leisha for disguising her lesbianism so well. She never let it on for a moment.
BakuryuuTyranno Some horror films have little happening on screen while building atmosphere. Some have little happening because there's literally very little happening. Credit where credit is due - at first it seemed it would be unsettling throughout. Unfortunately that atmosphere evaporated quickly. We're supposed to believe Emily is in danger from her spirit-influenced husband; however he doesn't seem potentially psychotic, but kinda cranky, thus there isn't any sense of danger. Therefore I thought it would build towards an overused (associated with, but predating, "High Tension"); this would've been a rare occasion where it would've worked. Strangely it didn't occur, no, the cranky husband really is the intended threat.
Hellmant 'FERTILE GROUND': Two Stars (Out of Five) 2011 was not a very good year for 'After Dark Originals'! We got 'SCREAM OF THE BANSHEE' (one of the worst entries in the horror series ever) and we also got this. Three of the seven films were decent though (not too impressive but decent) and I have yet to see the other two (but I've heard they're pretty bad as well). This one is directed and co-written (along with Jace Anderson) by Adam Gierasch (the man behind another much better 'After Dark Original' from two years ago: 'AUTOPSY') and revolves around a pregnant woman being haunted by ghosts of the people who passed away in her home years earlier. It's pretty poorly made on all levels and is pretty much a waste of time for anyone, even if you're a horror film fanatic. Leisha Hailey stars as Emily Weaver, a happily pregnant woman who suffers a severe miscarriage as the film begins. She then moves out to a house she inherited in the country, with her husband Nate (Gale Harold), to get away from things. Once there she begins seeing things though, of the supernatural kind she believes. She tries to talk to her doctor and husband about it but they're both very dismissive about the subject, believing she's just over stressed. When she looks into the history of the house she learns that the people who lived there before her all died, as well as shared similarities to her and her husband. She then becomes more and more frantic as she must confront (what she believes are) the ghosts of the people who lived there before her alone. The movie is over acted, under written and severely misdirected. It's a shame considering Gierasch's last 'After Dark' entry was so enjoyable. This is just B movie trash and there's nothing fun or interesting about it. Parts of it are creepy and somewhat disturbing but not to a quality effect. The movie just feels poorly made. There's nothing really to like here at all. It's not nearly as bad as 'SCREAM OF THE BANSHEE' or a lot of other trashy low quality B horror films but it is pretty bad all the same.
gaz1-540-393254 I'm always on the search for new horror movies and they generally fail to make me finish the film and feel scared or, more importantly, think "that was a great film".This one is just the same. I think if you're looking for some horror and have come to the expectancy I have (5-7/10 max), then this is OK to play something for the night. My tip is simply... not to watch the trailer! Just like all crappy comedies, instead of all the best jokes being in the trailer... all of the jumpy parts are in the trailer. This makes it really lack anything in the fear factor!Worth a watch if you want to watch a basic horror, but its nothing special.
