AniInterview Sorry, this movie sucks
Marketic It's no definitive masterpiece but it's damn close.
Intcatinfo A Masterpiece!
Jonah Abbott There's no way I can possibly love it entirely but I just think its ridiculously bad, but enjoyable at the same time.
MartinHafer "Fanaa" is an incredibly frustrating film to watch. The first half is magnificent--very romantic and very enjoyable. The second half, though not bad, was so incredibly different in tempo and style that it really did not fit together with the first half. In fact, I almost wish the movie had just ended in the middle! When the story begins, Zooni (Kajol) is going on a trip to Delhi with some friends. Her parents are worried...after all, she is blind. But they also know they need to let her grow and experience the world, so they reluctantly send her. Soon after arriving, the group of young ladies are met by their tour guide--a vivacious man named Rehan (Aamir Khan). He is clearly a ladies man and the women can't help but like him. Most taken by him is Zooni. Now you aren't sure about Rehan. Is he sincere or is she just another conquest for this playboy?Soon you have your answer. Despite telling her he's no good, Rehan professes his love and the pair plan on getting married. However, when her parent arrive in Delhi for the wedding, Rehan is not there....and they soon receive word that he was killed in a Kashimiri Separatist bombing.Believe it or not, there is MUCH more of the movie to follow. Oddly, however, while the first portion was all romance, the second half is more like some sort of James Bond film!!! To me, this didn't work well--especially because this super-agent practically has X-Men powers!!! No one is THIS tough nor this bullet-proof! What exactly am I talking about? Well, I really cannot say...it would spoil the film. Suffice to say, I adored the first half and would score it a 9. The second half, at best 5. And overall, still a 5 just because parts one and two simply don't work as a whole.
sdreelin Kajol and Aamir have to be the absolute best choices for the main characters of this movie as their acting is spot on and they make a great pair together in the story line. Not your typical Hindi love story where the guy and girl are annoyed with each other at first. They hit is off in the beginning but the story takes a radical twist in the middle and is non-stop on the edge mystery and drama to the end from there. Supporting rolls by Rishi Kapoor and Kirron Kher are spot on (who doesn't love their acting?). Tabu's roll is a bit mediocre and doesn't add much to the story, but it is a smaller role anyways so there is no time to develop her character. A quick pop in by Laura Dutta doesn't add much either and is a bit weird feeling like a quick add to the script. The ending is a surprise and ties up the story nice and neat. The music is pretty good, though the only dance scene that stands out is by Kajol as she performs on stage for an audience (brilliant song and brilliant lyrics). Though not exactly a dude movie, there is a good story to keep any guy enjoying this flick. A good couples movie and a must see classic for any Hindi film fan.
david-robin This film starts as a good romance Bollywood film : a handsome young man working as a guide meets a beautiful blind girl. This part depicts the mutual attraction between both characters, and how their love is growing. But then comes a second part which a totally different mood, like a new film in the film. Surprisingly, the plot switches to a piece of pro-India nationalism against Pakistan concerning the Kashmir conflict.Of course, this change is totally unexpected. I felt trapped watching a politically-oriented movie in place of the a pure entertainment I started with. This was very disappointing.
toro1 The second half of this movie seems to be largely inspired by "Eye of the Needle" which I had watched twenty years back. It starred Donald Sutherland. "Eye of the Needle" has the backdrop of World War II. A German spy gets marooned on a desolate British island colony, probably Gibraltar. He falls in love with a woman who stays on the island with her crippled husband and their son. She too falls for the hero. When she learns about the hero being a spy she mercilessly shoots him. The tag-line of the movie ran like 'it is easy to love an enemy but difficult to kill a lover' (not verbatim). Replace the island by Kashmir made inaccessible in winter. Replace the German spy by lost husband terrorist. Crippled husband by alcoholic father. Presto, you get "Fanaa".The story writer (who won a Filmfare award for this movie!) owes us an explanation.
