Vashirdfel Simply A Masterpiece
Marketic It's no definitive masterpiece but it's damn close.
Beanbioca As Good As It Gets
Deanna There are moments in this movie where the great movie it could've been peek out... They're fleeting, here, but they're worth savoring, and they happen often enough to make it worth your while.
briggnalle I'm a good fan of Fairy Tial. I loved the anime series because they were quirky, different, and just plain enjoyable. A good run of seasons had passed, and then 'The Phoenix Priestess' came out. As a rushed movie, the entire film flopped and just plain sucked. The plot had been rushed, many situations made little to no sense and the characters that you loved in the anime just aren't there in the movie. They are just cardboard cutouts and the villains and climax was just... ugh. What does this have to do with Dragon Cry? Why do I call it 'The Phoenix Mistake'? Because when they were making this story and the movie, they were given a bigger budget and had a huge enough fanbase to back it up. And they completely and utterly flopped it. The entire course of the film is choppy and makes absolutely no sense. The plot is simple: magical artifact stolen, get back magical item, kick butt, lesson learned. Unfortunately, the whole scenario is completely thrown into a blender and mixed into 'overdrive'. There is little to no character development or deep meaning in anything they do. I love the Fairy Tail guild, but I just didnt find anything worth caring about these characters. All the women were literally just fan service and the men were just plain simple and stupid cutout's. You will also be lost with each and every setting change in the entire film. Characters appear out of nowhere with no explanation as to how or why, the plot is rushed without any explanation as to how anything works or should be, and we are given so many questions with absolutely no answers. The bad guys are just plain confusing and unoriginal, and the fights... dear God the fights are either too short, or just plain lame. There is no signature fighting moves and when introduced to something new (as shown on the cover) we are given no explanation as to how or why it happened. The only thing I can really congratulate this film on was its beauty. We are talking like original animation with beautiful artwork. It's literally the only thing keeping this burning ship afloat aside from any die-hard fans who refuse to see anything wrong with it. Dragon Cry is just a sad cardboard cutout plot with cardboard characters with escalated fan service with logic literally having bricks tied to its ankles before getting tossed in the river. It is a complete disaster that makes even the Phoenix Priestess a decent movie. Take it from me: you are better off watching the anime or reading the manga. Niether of the Fairy Tail films offer anything to the entire story, nor does it apply any value to your life whether you are a die-hard fan or otherwise. This movie, is absolutely garbage, and as a Fairy Tail Fan, I am willing to save all others the pain and tell you to skip this film. Avoid it like the black plague, and forget it ever existed.
cinnacommisions I am a long time fan of the series, watching the show since its second season came out. I've watched and supported the adventures of the cast, owning the disc sets of the episodes, owning the first movie and lots of merchandise. So, imagine my happiness when they start showing the dubbed movie at a theater 3 hours away from my home. I came to that movie with hopes and ambitions. I'd seen the screenshots, I'd read some reviews of the movie, and i'd even seen that one of my favorite YouTubers, Nathan Sharp, was a voice actor. And after sitting through all of the movie, all I have to say is this: If you want an anime movie with fan-service and funny jokes, go right ahead and watch this. But if you came to watch strong, emotional, plot driven moments and character arcs, then you will be disappointed.
rachelauyeung It's completely a film for kid. Been a Fairy Tail reader for a few years so I bothered to actually watch this movie in theatre but I regret to say I am very much disappointed after watching this movie. The whole story is just too simple and naive. It's a shame that this shitty movie was written by the author Hiro Mashima himself. Expected more of it.
lilypadgrkkat Im truly and utterly disappointed not only with this movie, but with Hiro Mashima himself. I have put so much time, money, and energy into my love for Fairy Tail. I have merchandise, and I am currently slaving away making a Minecraft Server based off of it. My family knows how much I love Fairy Tail. So my dad came to me today, all excited telling me he has found out about the new movie and he wanted to take me to see it. I, being a huge fan was squealing with excitement. To my horror, this is what I found out.Erza Scarlet. She is in my top 3 favorite characters. She is kind but fierce, strong but merciful, wise and intelligent, badass, and still funny and entertaining. She is one of the strongest mages in the anime in my opinion, her power is almost limitless. I started watching this anime when I was pretty young (which probably wasn't a very good idea because I was still innocent) but she helped me grow confident in myself because as silly as it sounds she taught me when to show mercy, when to fight for what you believe in. But when she was displayed in this movie, it was like she was slightly strong but mostly there for the sex appeal. Her true strength wasn't shown at all.Wendy Marvell. She was another one of my heroes. Being young like me I kind of looked up to her. In the Tartaros Arc, Wendy finally got her Dragon Force. This. Makes. Her. So. Very. Badass. She is now supposed to be very strong. However, she did go into her Dragon Force, but it was a horrible representation. She got little to no screen time, and she did not show her real strength! Charla, her white exceed. Turned into some sexy cat girl. Charla was supposed to "help Wendy fight" but we saw nothing of what Charla can do in that form. It was purely for sex appeal.Gajeel Redfox. All I have to say is, he is a very powerful Dragon Slayer as well, but he literally didn't do any magic. Not even turn his arms into Iron.Dragon Slayers. None. Of. Them. Even. Roared. That is like a trademark of the Dragon slayers, their roars. None of them even did it.Don't get me wrong, seeing Natsu go into Dragon Form was cool, but honestly it could have been infinitely better. Natsu didn't do any magic in that form, he just threw punches. He got little to no screen time in that form either. The Fights, were executed horribly, I am disgusted. And what made me fall in love with Fairy Tail is the whole, "fight for your comrades" "teamwork" "sacrifice" aspect. When they were "shown" it was a weak display. What I saw as the core values of Fairy Tail, were shown horribly.Save your time and money from this movie. It isn't worth it. You are better off just sticking to the manga and the anime. I was so ashamed that I showed this to my father and he believed that I loved this anime, I apologized to him profusely and to redeem myself I am showing him the GmG arc. It is a good display of the anime and they fights. This anime started with little to no fan service, and it was all about teamwork and getting strong as a team. To see this movie to be 90% fan service disgusts me. The movie, 10% fights, 5% Core Values, 85% Fanservice.
