The events of Battle of Gods take place some years after the battle with Majin Buu, which determined the fate of the entire universe. After awakening from a long slumber, Beerus, the God of Destruction is visited by Whis, his attendant and learns that the galactic overlord Frieza has been defeated by a Super Saiyan from the North Quadrant of the universe named Goku, who is also a former student of the North Kai. Ecstatic over the new challenge, Goku ignores King Kai's advice and battles Beerus, but he is easily overwhelmed and defeated. Beerus leaves, but his eerie remark of "Is there nobody on Earth more worthy to destroy?" lingers on. Now it is up to the heroes to stop the God of Destruction before all is lost.

Nonureva Really Surprised!
Gurlyndrobb While it doesn't offer any answers, it both thrills and makes you think.
Aiden Melton The storyline feels a little thin and moth-eaten in parts but this sequel is plenty of fun.
Lidia Draper Great example of an old-fashioned, pure-at-heart escapist event movie that doesn't pretend to be anything that it's not and has boat loads of fun being its own ludicrous self.
holykafir This movie is what would become the first 14 episodes of Dragon Ball Super. The movie format is far more enjoyable than the long and slightly boring 14 episodes, so watch the movie and jump straight to episode 15 instead. But be aware that you will only really enjoy the movie if you had seen the whole series or read the manga. For a newcomer the movie will not really make any sense because it's filled with details and characters known by the fans. I didn't expect this movie to be better than the others, but I was wrong, it's the best one by far.
xpunisherx Before I give my review, let me say how I grew up on DBZ and to this day I'm just as big of a fan as I was back then. This is the worst "DBZ" movie ever. They made Vegeta look like a little whiny girl the entire movie. The "villian" was awful and super saiyan god? Really? Super saiyan 4 is 10 times better. It focused HEAVILY on comedy and I had a couple laughs, but it was a disgrace to the original DBZ. I want to see Dragonball Z succeed and get great reviews, but the fact that this movie was so bad and received a rating of 7.1 just makes me angry.Everyone posting positive reviews saying 10/10 but the plot sucks is just a fan boy that can't admit when something is awful. If the plot sucks then it doesn't deserve a 10/10.
venkatesh N very godly movie! to be honest! and for those people who love all those actions just as me!.humor has been added very well and the character of Beerus is cute as well as villainous (there is no villain but he does look like one).the return of Emperor Pilaf is also very funny and i enjoyed that a lot!.Its been a long time since i have seen comedy in Dragonball series and this is definitely one of the best hilarious as well as action packed movie i have ever seen!.it marks a very big levels of powers and abilities as Super saiyajin God makes his entry and there are 2 sequels(1 is confirmed the other is not so sure) to this movie which i think will be better than this one!.
moviemattb After receiving "Dragonball Evolution," which it was a piece of garbage and it was a disgrace to the series, and to us as being fans of the series. In 2013, "Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods" was released in Japan, and it was released in America in 2014; this was done as a favor for Akira Toriyama to get his revenge on that lame live-action movie to give us something on what things should be. When you watched some of the logos in the movie's opening, the Twentieth Century Fox logo comes in since they were the ones that produce the live-action movie as I thought of myself that they produce this movie by giving us an apology for doing the live-action movie, and giving us a better movie. That is just what I thought of. Anyway, I really love this movie and I am glad to see Goku and the rest of the gang again. The movie takes place after Goku defeats Kid Buu, and that other movie with Vegeta's brother being introduce which I have not seen. Before continuing, I did say have not seen because that is so far one of the nitpicks that I have with this movie is that I feel ashamed for not getting caught up with the series' time line as well as Emperor Pilaf and his minions turned into kids; probably missed some of the episodes in "Dragon Ball." Now, as I was saying, a new enemy Beerus, the God of Destruction is searching for the one that destroys Frieza, and someone to transform into a Super Saiyan God. So it is up to Goku to save the Earth from Beerus destroying it as they fight in battle. The movie is not flawless, but like I said regret on not getting caught up with the series. Also, I thought that King Kai's planet being brought back is not explain well enough. I know it was destroy during the Cell games, but I don't understand why it came back. Hopefully, someone knows the answer to that. Lastly, for my issues with movie, while the Japanese music is well scored but I thought it would have been interesting if this movie was scored by an American composer with American music like Bruce Faulconer; Mark Menza; or Brian Tyler (composer of "Dragonball Evolution" which is one of the things that I liked from that movie). So these were my issues with this movie. What do I like about this movie? I thought the animation is top notch, and I thought it was beautiful to see hand-drawn animation mixing in with CG-Animation. The story is well told and I am glad that Toriyama decides to continue with the legacy, and treat like "Dragon Ball GT" never happened (although I may need to look back at it and see if it holds up or not). The villain Beerus is a well done and it is interesting to know about him, and why he is consider to be the God of Destruction. I also love the Super Saiyan God form, which thankfully, isn't too much like the Kaioken. I mostly love hearing the voice actors from Funimation to voiced these characters again. Sean Schemmel is just as awesome by voicing Goku as well as Christopher R. Sabat voicing Vegeta. The action in this movie is pretty darn good; it is just as exciting as what the action scenes were in the series. Furthermore, the movie does have some pretty good laughs and it is funny to watch as well as enjoying the story and the action. I am glad that we got something better because we can all forget "Dragonball Evolution" and remember "Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods" more. There are making a sequel and I will be looking forward to it! "Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods" is a great treat for all fans! Even me. I give it a 9 out of 10.
