WillSushyMedia This movie was so-so. It had it's moments, but wasn't the greatest.
ThedevilChoose When a movie has you begging for it to end not even half way through it's pure crap. We've all seen this movie and this characters millions of times, nothing new in it. Don't waste your time.
Guillelmina The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.
Adam Mangan For what it is I almost believe it was the best it could have ever been. Really really surprised. Soundtrack is absolutely awesome. I really liked it, found myself singing all the songs for whole week after. It has that amazing comedic yet tragic effect to really touch you. I always liked Neil Patrick Harris feel his eccentricity is always expressed wonderfully and this is no different. I am actually praying for a sequel. Captain Hammer is the perfect portrayal of the cliché superhero, with some ulterior motives. Watch it, It is short and their is bound to be something in it you will love.
Morbius Fitzgerald Okay, this was an internet film that was filmed in 6 days flat and released on iTunes. The trivia on IMDb boasts that it was the #1 selling iTunes season for 5 weeks. Does it hold up? I'm not gonna lie, it really is going to hurt.So what is the plot? Dr. Horrible wants to get into the Evil League Of Evil and get the girl of his dreams but his nemesis, Captain Hammer, has taken an interest in said girl and the Doctor tries to win her back while also assassinating Captain Hammer to get into the Evil League of Evil.As you can imagine, I have a laundry list of complaints. Okay the humor is just too stupid. I know it was meant to be stupid humor but singing how someone "smells like poo" sounds like something I'd expect to find in a comedy aimed at 6 year old's. What is the best joke out of the whole thing? Captain Hammer's said Hammer is his penis (as revealed in a conversation with Dr. Horrible)...and its all downhill from there. The absolute worst thing about this film (and that says a lot) is Felicia Day. I know that she was probably trying but she had no chemistry with Billy and no chemistry with Captain Hammer and to top it all off, her singing voice is as weak as the jokes. I mean okay, Dr. Horrible comes off as creepy, even in his "Billy" secret identity and Captain Hammer comes off as "I'm 100% perfect" type assholes, don't get me wrong that was the intention but if someone had to choose between these two, I sincerely hope to God that they'd choose neither. There are only 2 things salvageable about this film - it has a few halfway decent songs (Well...the first and last of the second act) and Nathan Fillion as Captain Hammer but thats because he plays it so over the top and even though he couldn't save the movie, he does provide the film with a leg to stand on outside of "the songs". To be honest, he acts like he didn't care for the part but that just elevated how great he was...not caring actually made a performance better. Those two things are the only solitary moments of entertainment I found in this film. Anything else, the writing, Neil Patrick Harris, the visual effects, the rest of the songs, the direction...it either ranges from awful to they looked like they had none of this to they looked like they were trying but not even they could save this (This last one only applies to NPH).Overall if you like this film, GREAT, I wont judge you but for me...this was 40 minutes of not caring, not being entertained and not laughing at any joke it was throwing at me. If you want what I'd call a funny internet movie, look up Suburban Knights or To Boldly Flee. Sure they're over 2 hours long but they still have something resembling jokes and satire. This lazily written and directed film...nope.
lisaofshades I hunted this gem missing firefly and wanting to see at least Nathan Fillion do a male display again. So I checked his list of stuff (thank you IMDb!) and came across this adorable gem.To be honest, at first I thought something mean like: Oh no... barf... some damn Broadway influence making people sing their head off, like in Disney, I just forward it sometimes or bang my head and put a nice anime where people just scream in pain bleeding instead to sing opera, which is only good for showers... and this gem.I played it and the music on repeat for the longest time, and it's in my nearby favorite of all times collection. It's just pure genius... I get shivers...I love mad scientists, sarcasm, superheroes... twists that just rip your mind out, and stuff making you go "wha... what IS THIS!!! (the ultimate villain!!!!) I like surprises... I'm very random, so I'm so glad when someone can beat me.Everybody is cute... well, mostly... But Neil Patrick Harris it utterly adorable, I haven't seen him in ages... I was so happy to see him again, he can sing my own head off if he wants to. I was actually happy to hear them sing.Well, this isn't a proper descriptive review, so don't raise your hopes up (to avoid raising them too high), and just enjoy this gem.I'm moved that it was meant to be with losing money in mind, and doing it for free... everyone gave all their fun and everything they had, out of sheer joy for the sake of doing it... Not just getting some paycheck... That explains the shine of this gem.IT'S A FREAKING GEM I TELL YOU!!! (I apologize for shooting, it's meant with love, I'm just out of words to express my admiration.) Thank you for making this. All the dark humor, so damn politically incorrect... ah the gem! I don't want to spoil anything... but thank you for twisting my heart and throwing it in my face.I liked it~ <3<3<3
amber_lie Dr. Horrible Sing Along Blog was an innovative take of the traditional good vs. evil movies. This movie was written and produced by Joss Whedon. Dr. Horrible Sing Along Blog is a low budget film so the effects are not outstanding, but there are many other aspects that more than make up for anything that the movie may be lacking. My first take on the movie was that it was corny but as I watched I found myself hardly able to contain my laughter. There was a lot of subtle connotations in the movie which I enjoy interrupting. Neil Patrick Harris plays Billy also known as Dr. Horrible who is a wannabe villain that has a need to be esteemed by Penny and Bad Horse. Penny is played by Felicia Day; she has captured Billy's heart. Bad Horse is considered the "thoroughbred of sin" and is the leader of the evil league of evil. On the quest to enter in to the evil league of evil Dr. Horrible has to make choices between Penny or his evil plans. Through his evil plans we meet Captain Hammer who is considered Dr. Horrible's nemesis. Captain Hammer wins the affections of Penny; so there is an interesting love triangle that in tangles it's self in the movie. Dr. Horrible's evil plans don't always turn out the way he expects them to, but he desperately wants to be associated with the evil league of evil. The songs were meaningful and had comic flares to them. The movie is simply a terrific story that is unusual, but funny with the elements of love and passion. I disliked the ending at first but I did like what it stood for. You can interpret it in many different ways but I took it to mean every path has it's puddle, and what we want can come with a great price.
